"Woof woof!"

The kobold came running over, licking its lips in anticipation, eager to please its new master.

Now that the persuasion had succeeded, Kong Zhe could check its attributes.

Kobold Shaman.

Level: 3

Attack: 15

HP: 300

Mana: 150

Skill:

Healing Spell: Consumes 5 mana to restore 20 HP to a unit, cooldown 1 second.

Hmm, not bad at all.

Satisfied, Kong Zhe nodded, but seeing its ingratiating face, he couldn't help but give it a swift kick.

"Woof your head! You can't even manage your own underlings!"

The poor kobold could only pick itself up, whimpering with a face full of grievance.

Without sparing it another glance, Kong Zhe hurried downstairs and sealed the main entrance.

If the door was left open, there was always the risk of more magical beasts barging in.

As he closed the door, he caught a glimpse of the outside through the crack.

The entire street was now teeming with rampaging magical beasts. Their eyes were glowing blood-red. Kong Zhe knew this was because they had just arrived on Earth and were in a berserk state. While in this state, their aggression was at its peak. There wasn’t a living soul left on the street—humans had either hidden inside buildings or died right there.

With the door firmly shut, Kong Zhe let out a sigh of relief. Unless they detected humans, the beasts wouldn’t attack buildings. The apartment block was relatively safe for now. Still, until the beasts' frenzy subsided, there was no way he could leave.

Kong Zhe went upstairs and stored the bodies of several kobolds in his ring. The little kobold was left downstairs by the entrance—partly to keep watch for any beasts outside, partly to prevent any surviving residents from recklessly opening the door. As long as the kobold was stationed there, no one would dare go near the main entrance.

On his way up, he also checked the doorknobs of the other apartments to ensure there were no more monsters, and only then did he return to the sixth floor.

He stopped in front of apartment 601, knocked softly, and said in a low voice, "Open up, it's me."

The door opened quickly, and Kong Zhe slipped inside, locking it behind him.

Behind the door, Xue Feifei stood ready with a baseball bat. Had it not been Kong Zhe entering, she would not have hesitated to swing.

Seeing it was really Kong Zhe, Xue Feifei finally breathed a sigh of relief. Noticing the bloodstains covering him, she quickly asked, "Are you… are you okay?"

Kong Zhe waved her off and slumped onto the sofa, finally able to relax.

"I'm fine. I've killed all the monsters in this building. For now, it's safe here. But the magical beasts are still raging outside—we can't go out."

With those words, Xue Feifei let out a long breath. Until just now, her nerves had been stretched taut. But hearing Kong Zhe's reassurance, she finally let herself relax, and exhaustion swept over her. She sank to the floor, utterly drained. Still, she forced herself to focus and, massaging her arm, asked gravely, "What on earth is happening? You seem to know a lot."

Kong Zhe gave a wry smile and shook his head. "It's not something I can explain in a few words. Just think of it like this: the whole world has suddenly turned into an online game. The magical beasts are like monsters from the game, and humans are the players. Later, people from other worlds will join in—NPCs, you could say. But unlike a game, where you can resurrect, here if you die, you really die."

Xue Feifei stared at him, stunned, worry clouding her face. She murmured softly, "Tuan Tuan, I hope you're alright…"

Kong Zhe didn’t catch what she was muttering, nor did he care. After a long, exhausting day, hunger gnawed at him, and now, with the tension gone, a sharp pain twisted his stomach. He got up and opened the fridge.

Only a few cartons of yogurt and some ice cream…

Wait—ice cream?

It was winter. Had this stuff been here since summer?

Probably. After all, this woman had been holed up at home for six whole months! Kong Zhe broke into a cold sweat and immediately gave up on searching for food in this apartment. Even if he found any, it was probably expired.

"Hey, is there anything to eat?" he asked Xue Feifei, still sprawled on the floor.

"Huh? Oh, food…" She was stunned for a moment, then, without bothering to get up, scooted over to her little corner, lifted her blanket, and pulled out a box of biscuits. She opened it and checked—barely any left, obviously what she’d been nibbling on.

"Uh, there's just this little bit…" Xue Feifei said awkwardly, then added, "Oh, or I could order you some delivery?"
