Chapter 16: Don't Touch My Instruments
"...Oh." Xue Feifei hurriedly covered her mouth and quietly shrank back under the computer desk.
Meanwhile, Kong Zhe took a piece of mirror and tiptoed to the balcony, peering down. Through the reflected light, Kong Zhe vaguely saw what was happening below. Five ugly dog-headed creatures were dividing up the corpse of a woman. These creatures stood only about one and a half meters tall, their skin an iron-brown shade, wielding hefty shovels as weapons.
What astonished Kong Zhe was that among them, there was actually a dog-headed shaman. This shaman was noticeably larger than the others, holding a shovel in one hand and a candle in the other. If his memory was correct, this dog-headed shaman possessed a 'healing' skill.
If it were merely the four ordinary dog-headed creatures, Kong Zhe felt confident he could dispatch them one by one with some clever tricks. But with the addition of the shaman, there was no way he could win.
Still, he couldn't just leave them be. These monsters were territorial, and it was clear they had claimed this building as their domain; they would not leave anytime soon. If he didn't deal with them, Kong Zhe would be trapped inside, unable to go out.
While his own strength alone was insufficient to confront these creatures, things were different now that he had just acquired Divine Persuasion. The dog-headed shaman was level three, which perfectly met the requirements for summoning, and the healing skill was one of the most useful early abilities. As long as he summoned the shaman, the remaining four ordinary dog-headed creatures would be easy to handle.
Awakeners could gain experience and equipment by killing monsters, improving their level and power—the higher the monster's rank, the greater the experience and the better the loot.
So, for ordinary people, these monsters were terrifying beings to be avoided at all costs, but for Awakeners, they were as essential as grain to a farmer or fish to a fisherman.
Kong Zhe stood up and surveyed the room, searching for a suitable weapon. The small knife on the table simply wouldn't do.
He searched for a long time, but couldn't find anything that could serve as a weapon—not even a kitchen knife in the kitchen.
What now? Was he supposed to fight the dog-headed creatures barehanded? That was far too optimistic!
Just as Kong Zhe was fretting, his attention was drawn to a peculiar instrument nearby. Its head seemed designed for cutting something, fitted with a long steel blade.
His eyes lit up. He walked over and examined it; its structure was not complicated. With ease, he found pliers and a screwdriver in the room—there was a shortage of everything else, but these small tools were plentiful.
Returning to the instrument, Kong Zhe began trying to detach the blade.
“Hey, what are you doing? Don’t touch my machine!” Xue Feifei rushed out to stop him, seeing that he was attempting to dismantle her device.
“Uh, I’ll give it back after I’m done!”
“No way, stop right now or... or I’ll bite you!” Xue Feifei threatened fiercely, but seeing that Kong Zhe was ignoring her, she grew anxious and bit his arm.
Kong Zhe watched the scene with amusement. Before awakening, her bite might have hurt, but now it was less than a mosquito’s sting. He could easily break her teeth with a bit of force, but he didn't. Instead, he was intrigued—this girl was so frightened a moment ago, yet when it came to her equipment, she became like a crazed kitten. She truly valued her devices that much?
Looking at the girl, face flushed and neck bulging, stubbornly refusing to let go of his arm, Kong Zhe shook his head and threatened, “Enough, I don’t have time to play with you. Let go and hide yourself, or do you want me to violate you?”
Xue Feifei was startled by his words, immediately releasing him and scurrying back under the desk.
Kong Zhe found it amusing. So this was her weak spot—she feared nothing else, but the threat of violation terrified her.
After removing the blade, Kong Zhe found a sturdy wooden stick, attached the blade to it, and wrapped it tightly with tape dozens of times, fashioning a makeshift broadsword.
“I’m going downstairs to deal with those dog-headed creatures. Stay here quietly; don’t open the door for anyone except me!” Kong Zhe instructed toward the desk before leaving.
“Oh... Hey, you... be careful!” Xue Feifei hurriedly called out, her face reddening as she added, “Don’t worry, I’ll open the door for you!”
Kong Zhe paused for a moment, then nodded, picked up his newly made weapon, gently opened the door, and stepped outside.
