Chapter 75: Revealing the Identity
Downstairs, Ye Lan looked up. Though displeased, she did not intervene; she knew she was powerless to stop it, just as her elder sister Ye Mei had been. All she could do was sigh inwardly. Nakajima Leko pulled out her phone to take a photo of the two, smiling at the couple on the screen.
Du Bin wished this moment could last forever. He realized he had fallen in love with her, and felt no affection for Fang Yilin anymore. The abruptness of everything left him bewildered, but he knew he had to properly resolve the situation with Fang Yilin.
That night, everyone gathered in the courtyard for a lively barbecue. It was rare for Du Bin to see everyone together again, and he was so delighted that he drank several rounds with Hu Guozheng. Just as the merriment reached its peak, a shadowy figure leapt into the yard and, dressed as a ninja, knelt before Leko, reporting, “Mistress, several psychics are approaching Okinawa.”
“How did they find out so quickly?” Leko was perplexed. She had been extremely careful with secrecy; this was her territory, and under normal circumstances, no psychic should have tracked Ye Tang so soon—unless someone had leaked information. At this thought, her gaze shifted to the drunken Du Bin.
Aunt Lan harbored the same suspicion, and immediately pinned Du Bin to the ground. The sudden action startled Hu Guozheng and Ye Tang. “Aunt Lan, what’s going on?” they demanded.
“Stay here, both of you,” Aunt Lan instructed, offering no further explanation as she and Leko dragged Du Bin into one of the rooms.
“Psychics are converging here. Tell me, was it you who leaked the information?”
Du Bin was utterly bewildered. “Aunt Lan, I swear I didn’t leak anything. Please believe me.”
“Believe you? In less than an hour they’ll be here. What good would betraying us do for you?”
“I told you—it wasn’t me. I would never betray you.”
“Hu Guozheng only contacted one person: you. You hadn’t been here long when that YOYO showed up with her psychics. How do you explain that?”
“Wait, there were two others present when I took that call,” Du Bin suddenly recalled. “Li Ping and his sister were there too. But they’re with the police—they wouldn’t tell YOYO anything.”
“Who were they?”
“Li Ping and his sister. But they’re with the police. They wouldn’t reveal Ye Tang’s location.”
“That’s hard to say. I’ll believe you for now, but if I find out you’re lying, you’ll regret it. Pack your things, we’re leaving immediately.”
“I’ll handle the plane,” Leko interjected. “We can use my family’s private jet.” She took out her phone and called the Nakajima household in Tokyo.
Leko asked the host to take Ye Tang to the kitchen to prepare food, while the others gathered on the rooftop to strategize. Leko spoke gravely, “The jet can be ready at any moment, and the airport is only about ten minutes away, but those ten minutes are crucial—we must evade the psychics’ surveillance. They might not be able to sense Ye Tang’s vampire power, but they know what we look like. Hiding will be difficult.”
Hu Guozheng suddenly had an idea. “They know us, but not Old Du.”
“You mean…” Ye Lan seemed to grasp his plan.
“That’s right. We can disguise Ye Tang, send her and Du Bin to the airport first. The rest of us will show ourselves, drawing attention. As long as you’re with us, Aunt Lan, they’ll assume Ye Tang is by your side.”
“Not bad. But if you’re surrounded, how will you escape?” Du Bin agreed with the plan but voiced the key concern.
“That’s a secret,” Leko replied with a mysterious hush, though Hu Guozheng and Ye Lan clearly knew the answer.
With no choice, Ye Tang was disguised as someone else. Du Bin took her by the hand and they got into the car Leko had arranged, flanked front and back by several bodyguards. The remaining three, accompanied by a ninja impersonating Ye Tang, drove off in another direction—their goal: to be as conspicuous as possible.
Bee-bee-beep—YOYO answered her phone. “Have you found them?”
“Master YOYO, the target is heading towards Chatan.”
“Chatan? Surround the target immediately.” She had just gotten off the plane and intended to move at once, but hunger led her and her retinue to a nearby restaurant for some local fare. Meanwhile, the other psychics hurried to the location with the help of locals.
In the car, silence hung between the two. Du Bin knew she wanted to know the truth—why so many psychics were after her. Aunt Lan had only revealed that Wu Qiwei had ordered YOYO to place a kill order on her, but had kept quiet about the reason for exterminating the vampire within her.
He saw her gazing out the window, lost in thought, and gently patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Aunt Lan and the others will get away safely.”
“Mm, I hope so.” She forced a smile, her hand clutching the new necklace at her throat. She distinctly remembered her old childhood necklace had been severed by YOYO, and afterward, she sensed a strange change within her.
She vaguely recalled, during a brief moment of consciousness while she was losing awareness, seeing herself wound Du Bin. Psychics would not target her for no reason—there must be some cause. The gap in her memory made her all the more desperate for answers.
“Would you ever lie to me?”
The sudden question caught Du Bin off guard. Was she starting to remember? He answered carefully, “No, of course not. Besides, lying comes in many forms. But I would never lie to you.”
“Then tell me, from the death match until now, the memories I lost—why are they chasing me?”
“It’s nothing. YOYO injured you badly and you’ve been in a coma ever since. After she took over as head of the Hunters, she feared you’d challenge her, so she gathered psychics from around the world to hunt you down. That’s why Leko hid you here—to protect you. Don’t overthink it.”
“Is that so? You forgot that the wound on your chest was caused by me.” Ye Tang pressed her hand to his chest, right where she had stabbed him. Du Bin felt the pain, but forced a smile and endured it.
He was surprised she remembered wanting to kill him, and that brief instant of lucidity. He felt the wound reopen and bleed, and a heavy silence settled over them.
“Is it because I possess some kind of power?” Ye Tang suddenly whispered in his ear.
Du Bin froze. His reaction only deepened her suspicion. “If you won’t tell me the truth, I’ll go ask YOYO myself.”
He truly had no idea how to keep hiding it. If she went to YOYO, it would be like walking into a lion’s den. Seeing her about to fling open the car door and jump out, Du Bin panicked. “Okay, okay—I’ll tell you. Just calm down.”
Ye Tang knew Du Bin had a soft heart, especially with women. Seeing him yield to her persistence, she closed the door. Du Bin had no choice but to tell her everything. As he spoke, Ye Tang’s expression shifted from shock to sadness. She could not accept it—the truth that she was a vampire.
