Chapter 139: The Flame of Purple Fire
At this moment, Tong Xiaoguo, who had been brought to the upper level, woke up in a daze and slowly opened her eyes. What came into view was a gloomy dungeon. When she saw her hands bound by iron chains, she found it a bit hard to believe. She had previously fled from Zhuhai alongside Helen, and while she was sitting in a fishing boat, she had somehow lost consciousness without even realizing it. Now, completely unable to use her supernatural abilities, she was like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
"Helen..." Tong Xiaoguo suspected that Helen had betrayed her. That fellow was a coward who feared death, and she silently vowed to slaughter him.
With a beep, the cell door unlocked and two bodyguards walked in, one of them holding a syringe. Sensing that something was amiss, Tong Xiaoguo asked in a panic, "What do you want?"
The bodyguards did not answer. One of them pinned her down while the other swiftly plunged the syringe into her arm, instantly injecting the green liquid inside her body. Once finished, they immediately retreated from the cell.
"Ah..." Tong Xiaoguo felt a surging force rapidly taking over her body. Every single cell underwent a baptism, causing her metabolism to grow at an explosive rate. Her thoughts gradually grew hazy, and the only sound left in the cell was her heart-wrenching screams.
Seeing that the time was right, Du Bin stopped discharging his lightning. The relieved bodyguards collapsed onto the floor one by one, convulsing in agony. Having dealt with them, Du Bin proudly raised his middle finger at the surveillance screen toward Zeng Yilong. This provocation had no real effect other than as a simple test. He coldly muttered, "Tch, that was merely a warmup. The main course is just beginning. What is there to be smug about?"
Now, the only one left in the arena was the bodyguard who had delivered the vaccine. He immediately retreated into the elevator to prevent an attack from Du Bin. Before Du Bin could go after him, the ceiling above the center opened once more, and a figure plummeted down, smashing heavily onto the ground with a thunderous crash. This sight immediately caught Du Bin's attention. Recognizing the person as Tong Xiaoguo, he saw that she was enveloped in blazing purple flames. Instead of showing any joy, Du Bin's expression turned solemn.
"She was injected with the vaccine, too."
"Damn, so this is the main course!" Hu Guozheng gasped in astonishment.
Du Bin had witnessed how terrifyingly a superpower user's strength could soar after receiving the vaccine—Tao Wenjie was a prime example. If not for the sudden appearance of golden lightning back then, he probably would have been done for. Yet the Tong Xiaoguo before him seemed to have been vaccinated, and logically speaking, she ought to be conscious. Why did her expression suggest she had completely forgotten the two of them? Du Bin felt a secret jolt of shock. Could it be that she was being controlled?
To verify his hypothesis, he tried calling out to her, "Tong Xiaoguo, do you still remember me?"
She gave no reply. Her only response was an attack of roaring flames. Having no time to think, Du Bin panicked and rolled aside to dodge. The fireball slammed straight into a steel plate, causing an astonishing transformation as the flames instantly melted the steel. Seeing this, a chill ran down both their spines. If anyone were to take a direct hit from that, wouldn't they be reduced to a pile of ash?
Having missed her target, Tong Xiaoguo seemed extremely displeased. The flames in her hands burned even more fiercely as a searing beam of light shot directly toward Du Bin: "Blazing Beam!"
Faced with such an overbearing and lethal force, his only option was to flee. The beam pierced straight through the steel plate without disappearing; Tong Xiaoguo manipulated the light ray, sweeping it all the way across in her determination to cut Du Bin down.
"Holy shit, I didn't even offend you! You never used such a fierce ability when you were rescuing me, but now that we're enemies, you're pulling out all the stops against me!"
Driven into a corner, just as he was about to unleash his supernatural power to counterattack upon realizing he couldn't dodge, a mud wall abruptly erected in front of him for defense. It was sliced open in mere seconds, yet those few seconds were precisely enough for Du Bin to escape. Looking back at the long scar left behind, he panted, "Thanks a lot, fatty."
"Don't mention it."
Seeing that she could have killed Du Bin, only to be blocked for a few seconds by Hu Guozheng, she gritted her teeth, spun around, and waved a single hand. A scorching flame transformed into a fiery bird, flying in an arc while continuously dropping blazing sparks along its path.
"Big sister, I know I was wrong, please don't!" Startled, Hu Guozheng dismissed his mud wall and bolted out through the iron door. The fire bird crashed into the corner, instantly melting the steel there. Escaping the danger, Hu Guozheng poked his head back in and sighed with lingering fear, "Good thing I dodged fast, or there wouldn't even be bones left of me. Superpower users who've had the vaccine are absolute monsters."
Watching Hu Guozheng's wretched appearance, Du Bin burst into laughter. The former wore an expression of grievance and retorted, "Laugh, laugh, laugh yourself to death. Just wait, in a moment you'll be in an even more pathetic state than me."
Boom! Purple flames instantly burst forth from Tong Xiaoguo's body, enveloping the entire perimeter of the room in less than a moment. All the steel plates melted away directly, and even the surveillance screen was reduced to ashes in the blink of an eye. Although they lost the video feed, Zeng Yilong and Mr. Li had already guessed the outcome and clinked their glasses in a simultaneous toast.
"This way you won't be able to escape anymore, right? Obediently become the fuel for the Purple Flame's power!" Tong Xiaoguo said with a cheerful chuckle.
Facing the surrounding flames, Du Bin felt a wave of intense heat throughout his body, and his breathing grew hurried. If this continued, he would suffocate to death before she even managed to kill him. With no steel plates left nearby to serve as a conductor, he lost another means of defense. He expanded a barrier of crackling lightning around himself to keep some of the scorching heat at bay, and hovering outside the barrier were spheres of lightning he had condensed.
"You think these things can harm me? Ridiculous."
"Flame of Annihilation!"
Tong Xiaoguo transformed herself into a raging ball of fire, recklessly charging toward Du Bin. The scattered sparks emanating from the flames incinerated everything they touched along the way. The bodyguards lying on the ground were all burned to death without exception. Knowing there was nowhere left to run, Du Bin abandoned all attempts at evasion. He chanted incantations under his breath as the lightning within his body surged dramatically. Overcome by the weightless influx of power, he floated into the air as bolts of lightning intertwined around his body. The entire room was cast into the light of a magic array, and several arm-thick bolts of lightning generated from the ceiling struck downward, guided by him, while countless arcs of electricity danced around his sides.
"Holy crap, when did old Du's Heavenly Thunder Array get so powerful? He can even initiate it without connecting wires now!"
The fireball morphed by Tong Xiaoguo crashed directly into Du Bin's barrier. The entire room was filled with the intertwined clash of lightning and fire, popping and crackling incessantly. Both forces clashed fiercely, each determined to overpower the other. Because both sides were going all out, they were locked in a dead heat for a moment. Blue lightning and purple flames continuously swallowed each other up, triggering violent lightning explosions all around.
Deafening echoes reverberated through the space. Hu Guozheng, leaning against the door frame, couldn't help covering his ears and muttering in discontent, "Damn it, my eardrums almost ruptured."
Boom! The clash of their superpowers ended in a tie, and both were blasted apart by the resulting shockwave. Each suffered numerous injuries and stood panting heavily.
"How is this possible? A tie?" Tong Xiaoguo found it hard to believe. She had been injected with the vaccine, yet it was a draw! Though filled with extreme frustration, she immediately forced a smile as she wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. "It looks like your superpowers are completely spent."
Du Bin did not answer. To initiate the Heavenly Thunder Array, he had indeed exhausted all of his supernatural energy. At present, he could only release one final burst of power; after that, he would be nothing more than an ordinary human at the mercy of others. He had to wait for the right moment and gamble his last chance at turning the tables.
