Just when they thought they had shaken off the armed police and would be safe for a while, an off-road vehicle appeared behind them not long after they set out. The driver leaned out and opened fire, turning the rear of their car into a wreck.

The off-road vehicle was built tough. The other driver wrenched the steering wheel and rammed straight at them. Hu Guozheng swerved to avoid the collision, knowing that clashing with an off-road vehicle would put them at a serious disadvantage. Their car was inferior not only in performance but also in stability, and after everything it had already endured, it was at its limit.

When the two vehicles drew close, they saw that the shooter was Li Ning. The moment she fired again, Hu Guozheng had no choice but to use his special ability. Along the left side of the road, pillars of earth rose from behind them to block the bullets.

Seeing this, Li Ning immediately took aim at the wheels. The tire was punctured and began losing air, throwing the entire vehicle off balance until it swayed wildly.

When Hu Guozheng saw her aim shift to the fuel tank, his face turned ashen.

“Damn it! This girl really intends to kill us!”

The three of them threw open the doors and leaped from the car. The moment they hit the ground, a bullet struck the fuel tank. With a loud bang, the vehicle exploded. Flames spread rapidly to the nearby trees, starting a considerable fire.

The three men grabbed the cases and hurried into the densest part of the woods. Watching them disappear, Li Ning left the driver behind and gave a cold snort before pursuing them.

The three of them threaded their way through the pitch-black forest. No one knew how long they had been walking when they finally stopped, worried that Du Bin’s injuries might worsen. Hu Guozheng angrily punched a tree.

“That woman is vicious. I thought she was a good person, but it turns out she came to kill us.”

“How unlucky can I be? I nearly twisted my ankle too. If I’d known, I never would have come with you.”

Qin Ling wore a regretful expression as she tenderly rubbed her foot. Beside her, Du Bin stood drenched in sweat, his eyes plainly saying, You were the one who insisted on coming.

Qin Ling caught his look and slapped him on the back in irritation.

“What’s with that look? Can’t I complain a little?”

“Ow!”

Pain shot through Du Bin’s wound, and his eyes widened.

Realizing what she had done, Qin Ling looked apologetic.

“Sorry. Are you all right?”

After catching up with them, Li Ning pointed her pistol at Du Bin.

“Du Bin, I advise you to hand over the vaccine. Otherwise, you’ll be in serious trouble.”

The three of them ignored her completely. Angered, Li Ning fired two shots at Qin Ling’s feet without another word. Qin Ling froze in terror and raised both hands.

Li Ning strode up to Du Bin and pressed the gun against his forehead.

“Give me the vaccine, and I’ll let you go.”

Hu Guozheng was about to use his ability when Du Bin raised a hand, signaling him not to act rashly. Then he looked at Li Ning.

“What brought you to Zhuhai?”

“I was responsible for delivering the vaccine to the hospital. When I saw you through the surveillance cameras, I knew you were after the R vaccine.”

“I’m not giving it to you. Don’t you understand what this thing does? An ordinary person suddenly possesses incredible destructive strength. Don’t you find that strange?”

Li Ning’s expression remained calm.

“I don’t. Don’t you possess power greater than that of ordinary people as well? What right do you have to restrict others?”

“I have no such right. But there’s a conspiracy hidden behind all this, and we have to investigate the vaccine thoroughly.”

Du Bin knew Li Ning’s temperament very well. She was the sort of person who would refuse to do something precisely because someone wanted her to do it, and insist on doing it precisely because someone forbade her. Though he knew it was unlikely to work, he still tried to persuade her.

Li Ning shook her head and spoke of her reverence for the R vaccine.

“Du Bin, perhaps I once thought as you do and believed there was something seriously wrong with the R vaccine. But have you ever considered how many patients have escaped the torment of illness and been given a new life because of it? I won’t deny that it’s expensive, but compared with other treatments, it’s at least more accessible. Don’t you think it represents hope? Just because you believe there’s something wrong with it, you want to deny its value. Isn’t that meddling a little too much?”

“In your eyes, I may well be a meddler. But some things aren’t as simple as you imagine. Take Huangpu Hospital, for example. I told you what happened there, and you should know perfectly well what happened afterward in Guangzhou.”

Li Ning hesitated.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes,” Du Bin replied firmly.

“You’ve changed. All because of her.”

“Yes. I changed after returning from Okinawa Island. I know exactly what I have to do now. Li Ning, answer me honestly: was the death of Lan Huigang, the former head of the Special Investigations Group, connected to your brother?”

As he spoke, Du Bin remembered the matter he had set aside for so long. He hoped his suspicion was wrong.

The instant Li Ning heard this, her heart trembled.

“What evidence do you have to suspect my brother?”

“On that isolated island in the Philippines, Lan Huigang was killed with a single strike. Apart from the people close to him, no one else could have gotten near him.”

“Those with special abilities can kill with a single blow too.” Li Ning knew perfectly well that her brother had deliberately concealed something, but she refused to believe he could have done such a thing.

Du Bin noticed her abnormal reaction.

“I’m not denying that. Do you remember when the Hunter Clan was destroyed?”

Li Ning nodded. The great fire that had destroyed the entire village in an instant had left a deep impression on her.

Du Bin continued, “While you were in the hospital, Hu Guozheng told only me that Ye Tang was on Okinawa Island. At the time, only you and your brother were present, and I told no one else.”

“What are you trying to say? Are you accusing us of betraying you? Think about it. She was being hunted by people with special abilities, so it was only a matter of time before she was found. You can’t suspect my brother just because of that. You’re being far too hasty.”

Li Ning rejected the accusation, deeply irritated that Du Bin would suspect her brother on the basis of mere conjecture.

Du Bin reached up and moved the gun away from his forehead, signaling for her to lower it.

“You’re wrong. The reason Yoyo found Little Tang was that she could track her vampire power. After Aunt Lan sealed Little Tang’s vampire power again, they lost her location. Besides, the Eastern Kingdom was Zhongdao Jiale’s sphere of influence. Instead of searching the mainland, they all gathered on Okinawa Island. If no one had tipped them off, do you really think Yoyo could have found Little Tang’s exact location there?”

“That’s nothing but your guesswork. What makes you think my brother betrayed you?”

Li Ning was at a loss for words. For the moment, she could find nothing with which to refute him, so she could only stamp her foot furiously.

“I personally witnessed Li Ping use the R vaccine at Huangpu Hospital. Li Ning, I don’t expect you to believe me, but the fact that Li Ping betrayed me is as solid as iron. I have no idea why he did it.”

“I don’t believe you. You’re lying.”

Even after hearing all that, Li Ning still refused to believe him. Deep down, she was convinced that Du Bin was merely trying to confuse her judgment.

Du Bin had no choice. He gently pushed her against a tree and planted one hand beside her head. The impact made a dull thud. Staring into her eyes, he slowly moved closer until their faces were barely a fist apart.

“How about we make a bet? We’ll go and see for ourselves. If Li Ping truly wasn’t the one who betrayed us, I’ll let you deal with me however you wish.”

“Damn, Old Du’s wall move is incredible.”

Hu Guozheng watched in astonishment as Du Bin, undaunted by the risk of being shot, dared to flirt with her like that.

Li Ning had heard of the infamous wall move before, but no one had ever dared to use it on her so brazenly. Furious and embarrassed, she nevertheless felt her heart flutter at such close range. Unaccustomed to the ambiguous posture, she drove her knee viciously into Du Bin’s groin.

The instant she struck him, a piercing pain shot through his entire body. Du Bin’s face changed dramatically. He stiffened, eyes wide, then shoved her away and collapsed onto the ground, clutching himself as sweat poured from his body. Tears gathered in the corners of his eyes.

“Are you even a woman? Who taught you to be so vicious?”

Seeing Du Bin’s misery, Hu Guozheng doubled over, laughing until tears streamed down his face. He gave Li Ning a thumbs-up.

Though she felt rather guilty when she saw Du Bin’s awkward condition, Li Ning maintained an indifferent expression.

“Not every woman falls for that trick. Consider it mercy that I didn’t leave you unable to have children.”

“It hurts so much!”

Du Bin curled into a ball, miserably muttering about his misfortune.

Hu Guozheng hurried over, helped him to his feet, and slowly led him out of the woods. Li Ning gave a cold snort and followed behind them.

Nearly an hour later, the four of them emerged from the forest. After winding through the residential streets, turning left and right, they finally escaped the police cordon and took a taxi to the place where they were to meet Sasa.
