Chapter 49: The Transformation of Humanity
Qin Hao and Zi Hui returned to the Firmament Base to rest.
At the same time, in a distant star system, the powers of divine minds continued to collide.
“Thousand Arms, if you keep acting recklessly, I’ll report you to the Cosmic Enforcers.”
Thousand Arms roared back, “And did your Peace Alliance not help this planet? Feng Xiao, your group went all out and even gave them a time reversal.”
He had thought that after the reversal of time, destroying his opponent would be simple. Instead, he lost a host of his hunting creatures. Especially the cultivation of the Venomous Demon Spiders would take at least another decade to reach the numbers he had before.
“The time reversal card was a transaction between Silverlight’s Blazing Celestial and the Ancient Demon’s Black King. It has nothing to do with your violation. I’m only warning you, don’t play tricks again.”
Thousand Arms was furious at these words.
Alas, among gods, there were the strong and the weak. Thousand Arms was but a lesser deity.
The Blazing Celestial of the Silverlight Civilization was born within a supermassive star, master of time itself.
The Black King of the Ancient Demon Civilization was the very god whose divine offspring Qin Hao had slain.
Reversing time did not only turn back the clock for Blue Star, but for all living things—meaning the divine offspring would be resurrected as well.
This was the true secret of time reversal.
Even Qin Hao could not have guessed this.
“Hmph. I won’t send my kin to hunt him again, but since Blue Star now has beings capable of resisting second-tier evolved intelligent species, isn’t it time we dispatch first-tier evolved species?”
In the distant void, the divine powers fell silent for a moment, then finally gave their consent.
“Agreed.”
After all, the Invasion and Peace Alliances kept each other in check; Thousand Arms’ proposal was quite reasonable.
With the powers withdrawn, Thousand Arms began his preparations anew.
He still had many first-tier evolved creatures, and this time, he wouldn’t send only beasts.
For beasts lacked sufficient intelligence.
To truly accomplish his mission, he would need intelligent species.
...
Seventh day of the Apocalypse.
Endless waves of monsters had now overtaken the entire world. After a week spent in terror, people at last fell into utter despair, realizing no one would come to their aid, that this was no dream.
By now, many had consumed the last of their food and were forced to leave their homes, risking their lives in search of sustenance.
On the streets, three large dogs and two big cats forged ahead, slaughtering any Fanged Demons or Serpent Demons they encountered.
An Ziheng extended his senses and perceived the presence of life.
“I know you can hear me. These monsters can be killed, and their flesh is edible. Eat them, grow strong—Blue Star needs you, humanity needs you.”
Before the apocalypse, such words would have had An Ziheng branded a lunatic or a cultist.
But now, he seemed the very image of a hero.
He took out a piece of roasted meat, knocked on the door of a small shop, and left the meat at the doorstep.
The rich aroma wafted inside, and the hidden people’s eyes shone with hunger.
Finally, they opened the door, snatched the meat, and devoured it eagerly.
Delicious—unbelievably delicious.
As they devoured the food, one of them looked at An Ziheng’s departing figure, tears of gratitude welling in their eyes.
An Ziheng continued hunting monsters, carving out meat as he went.
“I’m leaving food here. I’ll come by once a week. I hope you adapt quickly to the apocalypse.”
“Remember, Blue Star needs you. Humanity needs you.”
An Ziheng moved on.
Countless people would remember his name.
They did not believe his words about Blue Star needing them—they had no desire to be saviors.
But deep in their hearts, a new thought took root.
They needed An Ziheng.
They needed a hero.
An Ziheng watched as his hero points skyrocketed, marked the location on his map, and resolved to return in a week—not sooner, not later.
Otherwise, these people would become ingrates, and he’d gain no hero points from them.
The apocalypse had hardened him; the once naïve An Ziheng was now ruthless.
...
Meanwhile, Li Xinlong continued to hunt alien creatures.
Though his rank was lowest in the Firmament Base, his awakened ability was simple and brutal: raw strength.
Blessed with an innate advantage against Fanged Demons, and having learned a combat technique under Qin Hao’s guidance, he grew stronger by the day—he could now face Serpent Demons alone.
In just six days, he consumed masses of Serpent Demon flesh daily, gaining six kilograms and growing three centimeters in height, his frame becoming imposing.
Though not as powerful as An Ziheng, he didn’t have to divide his efforts among five pets as An Ziheng did, so his progress was just as rapid.
Before the apocalypse, he was a success.
After the apocalypse, he would be a powerhouse.
...
The Firmament Base, established only six days ago, had already transitioned into a new mode and developed rapidly.
Zi Hui’s fan club, having brought their families back, had swelled in numbers and formed a family-based community.
Li Lan announced new rules: every registered family could have their own private quarters, paying daily rent calculated at five Star Energy Crystals per person.
Thus, a family of three would need to hunt at least fifteen Fanged Demons.
But a private space meant comfort—no more listening to others snoring or grinding their teeth at night, no more enduring the stench of smelly feet.
Most importantly, families could gather resources and decorate their own spaces, working harder at survival.
This was a profoundly positive development.
For the base, this arrangement also lightened its burdens and allowed for growth in other directions.
The thirty-fifth floor became a conference room, its walls covered with items available for exchange through the Hero System.
Basic strength, agility, defense, and mind potions hung on display, along with countless combat techniques.
Even injuries could be healed—a single recovery potion could restore someone within hours.
Within the base, one mother from Zi Hui’s fan club, long suffering from leukemia, found herself cured after taking a recovery potion.
Humanity was changing.
Science and medicine were gradually being left behind.
Their new way of life revolved around unique Star Energy items.
Unbeknownst to all, Blue Star itself was beginning to release Star Energy—as if a dried-up well, needing water poured in and the pump worked before more water would gush forth.
This “water” nourished the land and all living things. It would not be long before many wonders arose.
Qin Hao was enjoying a sumptuous, delicious breakfast at the Firmament Base when a sudden prompt appeared in his mind.
“Mission Predictor activated.”
