Chapter 145: The Death of Wang Qiyi (Part Two)
Xiao Cheng’s eyes narrowed slightly as he locked his gaze onto the brightly smiling Wang Qiyi below.
Seeing Wang Qiyi’s smug smile sent a sharp pang through his heart.
It was this very middle-aged man, seemingly honest and loyal on the surface, who had directly or indirectly caused the deaths of several of his uncles and elder brothers. The process of his own growth had simply been a sequence of watching his uncles and four elder brothers die one after another—the agony of which no one else could ever truly comprehend.
He recalled the vivid faces and smiles of his uncles, his fiercely protective eldest brother, his humorous second brother, his cool-acting third brother, and his fourth brother, with whom he used to skip classes. These living, breathing people had vanished from his life one by one.
Ever since his rebirth, Wang Qiyi had constantly tripped him up and set traps for him, baring his sinister face without reservation.
Furthermore, in his past life, Wang Qiyi was inextricably linked to the annihilation of his family. All four of his sisters-in-law had perished in that massacre. Although that tragedy had not yet occurred in this timeline, those bloody and withered scenes had tormented him for a full five years.
Five whole years! The young master is back!
The time for a reckoning has arrived!
At this thought, Xiao Cheng’s killing intent surged forth, and he clenched his fists tightly.
Down below, Wang Qiyi suddenly sensed a vast and overwhelming wave of murderous intent washing over him. His heart skipped a beat—such formidable killing intent! Could it be that Xiao Cheng actually intended to kill him?
Wang Qiyi frowned in perplexity. Why would Xiao Cheng release such intense killing intent, enough to startle even an Innate expert like himself? And what possible reason could Xiao Cheng have for wanting him dead?
He had merely come to capture Xiao Cheng under orders; Xiao Cheng knew nothing of what he did behind the scenes. As for his true identity, even Xiao Fusheng had never sensed a thing. How could a wet-behind-the-ears kid like Xiao Cheng, who rarely interacted with him, possibly have discovered it?
Wang Qiyi smoothed his brow, assuming that Xiao Cheng was merely throwing a young master’s temper tantrum and venting his anger on him.
He had no reason to fear Xiao Cheng. Setting aside his own cultivation at the third tier of the Innate realm, just the dozens of guns behind him—including heavy machine guns—were far more than Xiao Cheng could ever handle.
He was determined to capture Xiao Cheng today. Once he caught him, he would coerce Xiao Fusheng into locking Xiao Cheng away, allowing him to legally control the young man. Moreover, Xiao Cheng possessed a heaven-defying jade pendant, which was something he coveted above all else.
"Hehe, Young Master! Come back with me. You can't escape now. Don't forget the fifty-odd guns behind me. Resisting will do you no good—what if a gun goes off by accident?"
Wang Qiyi looked up at Xiao Cheng on the rooftop with a beaming smile, the threat in his words blatantly obvious. After delivering this line, he looked even more smug.
To be a retainer to the extent of leading a force to pressure one's own young master—and driving him into a corner—was truly scandalous.
"Fifty-odd guns? That depends on who they're pointed at!" Xiao Cheng transmitted his voice using true qi, offering a cold smile with a flicker of pity in his eyes.
Up until now, Wang Qiyi still believed everything was airtight, utterly convinced that no one knew his secrets, and completely unaware that Li Zirui had already been turned to their side by Ning Jingzhe. He was truly pathetic.
Wang Qiyi remained unperturbed, assuming Xiao Cheng was merely joking and trying to scare him. He couldn't even be bothered to look back.
"The Young Master's jokes aren't funny at all, hehe—" Wang Qiyi's laughter abruptly cut off.
A series of crisp, synchronized sounds of bolts being racked echoed from behind him. Startled, Wang Qiyi turned around to see countless pitch-black gun muzzles aimed directly at him, most notably the menacing nine-barreled rotary Gatling gun held in Li Zirui's arms.
Wang Qiyi’s smug smile froze on his face. "You..."
"I'm sorry, Master Wang, but I am the Young Master's man!"
Li Zirui cradled the nine-barreled rotary Gatling gun with both hands, the veins bulging on arms thicker than an ordinary person's thighs. Only someone with his innate supernatural strength could casually hold a one-hundred-kilogram helicopter-mounted machine gun as if it were a toy.
Li Zirui cracked a mocking grin and aimed the barrel straight at Wang Qiyi.
Not only Wang Qiyi, but even Zhuo Qinglian and Fang Yujia, who had been constantly worrying about Xiao Cheng's plight, were dumbfounded by this turn of events. It was too dramatic—simply unbelievable.
Xiao Cheng had reversed the entire situation through casual conversation. Was this really the Xiao Cheng they knew?
Yet, seeing this scene, both women breathed a sigh of relief and felt a deep sense of catharsis. Wasn't Wang Qiyi acting all high and mighty just a moment ago? Could he still afford to act arrogant now?
Staring at the countless gun muzzles, Wang Qiyi was stunned, momentarily at a loss for words. Having temporarily taken over Crimson Security, he understood nothing of the internal factions and had no idea that Li Zirui belonged to Xiao Cheng. It was laughable that he had previously tried to recruit Li Zirui to his own side.
What surprised him even more was when this good-for-nothing playboy had started building his own influence. Could it be that Xiao Cheng had been faking it all along, using his womanizing and misdeeds merely as a facade?
Wang Qiyi secretly dismissed the hypothesis. He had watched Xiao Cheng grow up and knew precisely what kind of person he was; there was no way the youth possessed such depth of scheming.
Facing so many firearms, he felt deep apprehension. While he had at least three ways to escape, he chose not to run. As long as his true identity was not exposed, Xiao Cheng would never dare to kill him. Besides, he wanted to see what card Xiao Cheng intended to play next.
"I never expected this. The Young Master is wise beyond his years, having factored me into his plans all along, while foolishly, I remained completely in the dark." Wang Qiyi offered an awkward smile.
"Li Zirui, take everyone and pull back three kilometers. Qinglian, Sister Yu, you two leave first as well. I'd like to speak with Wang Qiyi alone!" Xiao Cheng transmitted his voice from the rooftop.
Li Zirui leading the men to turn their guns around had not been part of his original plan; he had simply made a spur-of-the-moment decision upon seeing Wang Qiyi smile so arrogantly.
Having Li Zirui and the others riddle Wang Qiyi with bullets would certainly be the simplest method, but since Wang Qiyi was an Innate expert, escaping might not be out of the question for him. Even if they managed to shoot him to death, it would let him off far too easily, and the questions in Xiao Cheng's mind would remain unanswered.
Wang Qiyi was baffled. By doing this, Xiao Cheng was undoubtedly giving up his greatest advantage. Could he really intend to discuss private matters? Once these mercenaries left, the situation would be entirely out of Xiao Cheng's hands.
Li Zirui was taken aback, unable to understand why Xiao Cheng wanted them to leave. However, having been born a soldier, the concept of obeying orders was deeply ingrained in him. After a brief hesitation, he led the troops away.
"Miss Qinglian, Miss Yujia, let's go!" Li Zirui respectfully advised.
"You guys go ahead. I'll stay right here and watch."
"I'm not leaving either. You all go!"
Seeing that neither of them would budge, Li Zirui found himself without a better option. Furthermore, in his mind, Wang Qiyi was a retainer and Xiao Cheng was the young master of the Xiao family; they surely wouldn't resort to any excessively violent conflict, so he didn't push the matter further.
Seeing that neither Zhuo Qinglian nor Fang Yujia was leaving, Xiao Cheng said nothing. This was well within his expectations; otherwise, he wouldn't have arranged for Long'er to protect them earlier.
Ten minutes passed, and everyone else had evacuated. The abandoned brick factory was illuminated as brightly as day, leaving only Xiao Cheng, Wang Qiyi, Zhuo Qinglian, and Fang Yujia behind.
Zhuo Qinglian led Fang Yujia far away, positioning themselves on the opposite side of the abandoned brick factory. She could tell that tonight's events were far from simple; otherwise, Xiao Cheng wouldn't have deliberately cleared the area. Pulling back as far as possible would prevent them from being used as hostages by Wang Qiyi to coerce Xiao Cheng later.
She couldn't fathom where Xiao Cheng got the confidence to fight Wang Qiyi single-handedly.
When she left the previous night, Xiao Cheng was merely at the eighth tier of Foundation Establishment, whereas Wang Qiyi was an Innate expert. The gap between those major realms meant Xiao Cheng shouldn't stand a single chance against him.
Yet, since Xiao Cheng dared to do this, he must have some sort of assurance.
Fang Yujia harbored no such worries. She placed blind trust in her brother-in-law and lacked an accurate concept of a cultivator's true strength.
"So, Young Master! What is it you want to discuss with me?" Wang Qiyi looked up at Xiao Cheng on the rooftop, an inescapable sense of oppression lingering heavily in his chest, suffocatingly tight.
"Let's discuss what kind of death you prefer. Would you like to be burned to death, pierced to death, or devoured by spirit beasts until not even your bones remain? I can satisfy any of those choices for you today!"
Xiao Cheng smiled coldly, completely unburdened by constraints. Today, he had come specifically to kill Wang Qiyi.
"The Young Master wants to kill me? I'm afraid it won't be that easy!"
Wang Qiyi found it somewhat laughable. Although Xiao Cheng had put him through a miserable time recently, he had clearly sensed that Xiao Cheng's strength was only at the peak of Foundation Establishment at the time. Dreaming of killing him with that level of power was sheer delusion.
Ceding further idle chatter, Xiao Cheng leaped directly off the sixth-floor rooftop into mid-air.
Wang Qiyi was stunned. Didn't he say he wanted to kill him? Why did he just jump off the building?
