Zhou You heard Li Xintian’s words and felt as if he had missed out on a fortune—no, a chance at immortality, the path to becoming a transcendent immortal. His eyes rolled back; it was a world of difference.
“Daoist Zhou, what happened?”
Li Xintian, unaware that Zhou You had overheard him, almost wished to take his place and agree to the old Daoist’s offer.
“Alas, what a pity. I’ll wait for the next opportunity.”
Zhou You clutched his chest with pain, managing only to utter this faint reply.
“I see. Then three days later it is. Daoist Zhou, please escort me again.”
Li Xintian didn’t want to trouble Zhou You further and said this.
“All right, three days later. I shall assist you then.”
Zhou You nodded, composed himself, and retracted his earlier display of weakness.
“Daoist Zhou, I won’t bother you anymore.”
Li Xintian had no choice but to return and seriously contemplate what to study.
“Master, are you going to take him as your disciple?”
Bian Yiyuan and Bian Yihe burst into the room after Li Xintian left and asked.
“No. I cannot teach him much. Being his guide is already a great favor. Becoming his master? I’m not qualified.”
Zhou You shook his head.
“Good, that puts my mind at ease.”
Bian Yiyuan breathed a sigh of relief.
“What’s that? You’re happy I wasn’t accepted as a disciple? Afraid he might challenge your position as senior apprentice?”
Zhou You looked at him with a disappointed, “I expected more from you” expression.
“Of course not.”
Bian Yiyuan waved his hands.
“Oh? Then practice your skills—ten times. Miss one, and I’ll skin you alive! Yihe, you practice five times.”
Zhou You’s face darkened and his gaze sharpened as he drove Bian Yiyuan and Bian Yihe out.
“So, what did you learn? Tell me quickly.”
Hu Qiuyan, seeing Li Xintian return, linked her arm with his.
“Sigh!”
Li Xintian glanced at her and sighed.
“Why the sigh? Tell me quick.”
Hu Qiuyan pulled Li Xintian to sit on a stone bench.
Flying Tiger King was also watching Li Xintian with keen interest.
“I met an old Daoist who wanted to teach me, but I didn’t want to learn. The old Daoist was so angry he sent me back. Now, I’m just thinking about what to learn when I see him again.”
Li Xintian shook his head.
“Your hopes were in vain. You thought you’d gained a powerful ally but learned nothing. Is your ambition too high? Wanting immortality right away?”
Flying Tiger King mocked Li Xintian after hearing he had learned nothing.
“You really have the courage of a tiger. Have you forgotten the pain you suffered last time?”
Li Xintian grabbed Flying Tiger King’s cheek.
“All you want is instant success, so the old Daoist thought you were too greedy and sent you away.”
Flying Tiger King, emboldened by who knows what, retorted fiercely.
“I haven’t finished. The old Daoist saw I was just flesh and blood and wanted to teach me the path to transcendence and immortality. I didn’t accept.”
Li Xintian released Flying Tiger King’s cheek.

Flying Tiger King’s eyes widened upon hearing this. After all, he had taken up cultivation for the sake of immortality.
“So? Why didn’t you learn it?”
Hu Qiuyan asked, hearing Li Xintian’s words.
“That’s not what I want to learn. It’s not in my heart, so naturally, I refused.”
Li Xintian pondered what he truly wished to learn.
“But if you didn’t want to learn, why did the old Daoist send you away? That’s so stingy!”
Hu Qiuyan stood up, feeling indignant on Li Xintian’s behalf.
“Sit down and listen. No, it wasn’t like that. The old Daoist also spoke of the Dragon Transformation technique. At the end, one could become the progenitor of a race. The Five Elements Path, the Path of Power, the Yin-Yang Path—I didn’t learn any of these. That’s why I was sent back.”
Li Xintian helped Hu Qiuyan sit again. Each technique he mentioned pierced Flying Tiger King’s heart like a dagger, causing him unbearable pain and even tears.
“Old Daoist, old Daoist, forgive this woman’s slip of tongue. Xintian, I feel weak in the legs.”
Hu Qiuyan quickly knelt, clasping her hands.
“What do you want me to say about you? I feel like killing you right now.”
Flying Tiger King was nearly suffocated by his pain, speaking without restraint.
“Oh? Looks like Red Tiger, you’ve got the courage of a leopard now?”
Li Xintian helped Hu Qiuyan up and sat down, looking at Flying Tiger King.
“I might not beat you, but if you want to learn, you can study it and then teach me.”
Flying Tiger King hid behind Hu Qiuyan and said this.
“What do you know? Learning those things is useless; it takes too long and isn’t what I want.”
Li Xintian didn’t take any action against Flying Tiger King but understood why the old Daoist’s teachings were so alluring and even deadly to others, including demons. No wonder Zhou You looked so heartbroken.
“Such a pity! Heaven help, strike down that bastard!”
Flying Tiger King howled to the sky.
“I think your skin is itching; today I’m going to give you a good beating!”
Li Xintian rolled up his sleeves, ready to thrash Flying Tiger King.
“Don’t believe me? Ask her. She thinks the same as I do!”
Flying Tiger King pushed Hu Qiuyan toward Li Xintian.
“Qiuyan, do you really feel that way too?”
Li Xintian stopped and looked at Hu Qiuyan.
“Yes.”
Hu Qiuyan nodded.
“I’m going to sleep. I’m too lazy to deal with you two!”
Li Xintian turned and left to rest, planning to think it over after waking.

Late at night, the forbidden ground of Chen Family Village’s ancestral hall.
The corpse demon lay inside a stone coffin, fully recovered in body and control, indistinguishable from a normal person. It opened its mouth and absorbed the demonic energy surrounding outside.
Outside the stone coffin, dense, dark black energy swirled throughout the ancestral hall.
“Why’s it getting darker? Light more torches! You all slept like dead pigs yesterday. No slacking this time!”
A villager shouted and began lighting torches.
Unfortunately, the torches only illuminated a radius of about a meter, leaving the path in darkness.

Inside the ancestral hall’s forbidden ground, the corpse demon was surrounded by black energy rings that looked like flames.
It absorbed all the demonic energy gathered in the sky over Chen Family Village into its body. Gradually, the light from the torches began to illuminate the place more clearly.

The corpse demon began refining the demonic energy, not rushing to leave its confinement. Its skin scales started turning golden yellow, and its nails hardened into sharp talons.
Two bumps formed on either side of its forehead, suddenly breaking open to sprout a pair of qilin horns. Its face further morphed toward that of a qilin, but the transformation ultimately failed.
The corpse demon realized the qilin stone treasure had been taken, which hindered its transformation, so it still bore a human face. It harbored intense hatred toward Zhao Longjie, who had stolen the qilin stone.
Soon, the corpse demon recalled the righteous energy from the day and calmed down, focusing on refining the demonic energy. Using the characteristics of the Xuánlóng Flying Star acupoint, it refined the energy rapidly.
After a full day and night of refining, the demonic energy was fully absorbed and integrated within its body, allowing free use.
“Boom!” The corpse demon lay in the stone coffin, circulating demonic energy, which burst outward. The Bixi stone statue couldn’t withstand the force and turned to dust.
Those outside the ancestral hall heard the noise but before they could investigate, they came into contact with the demonic energy and instantly dissolved into pools of blood on the ground.
The corpse demon burst from the stone coffin, walking upright like a human toward the general’s armor. It grabbed the armor and began donning it, slinging a sword on its back as well.
Fully armored, the corpse demon strode toward the gate of the forbidden ground, exerting force to blast the stone doors open, sending the two stone slabs crashing outside, kicking up dust.
It roared, no longer fearing any Daoist magic. Its body was strong and vigorous, no longer withered. Wearing the general’s armor, its aura became imposing.
The two stone doors melted into black liquid, sizzling. The corpse demon’s poisonous nails could destroy even stone gates. It smiled in satisfaction.
Sniffing the air, the corpse demon leapt toward the Chen Family Village inn, covering ten meters in a single bound, then ran like a man.

At the Chen Family Village inn:
“Master, what is that you’re holding? You’ve been staring at it for two days.”
Hei Yue worried about Zhao Longjie’s safety.
“Quiet! You wouldn’t understand even if I explained. It’s something you shouldn’t know about. Keep it safe. Tonight, we leave Chen Family Village overnight.”
Zhao Longjie wrapped the qilin stone in cloth and handed it to Hei Yue.
“Yes, Master.”
Hei Yue understood Zhao Longjie was back to normal and dared not say more, carefully tucking the qilin stone into her bosom.

Outside the inn, the corpse demon clad in general’s armor already knew the qilin stone was inside.
Inside, a few drunken men were carousing, utterly unaware of the approaching danger.
The corpse demon pushed open the inn’s door with a loud crash.
“Who’s there? What a spoil-sport! Interrupting our drinking?”
“You’re sitting by the door. Go check it out!”
“Yeah, you near the door, go see.”
“You’re so troublesome!”
The man grabbed his wine jug and staggered toward the door.
“Who dares disturb your uncle’s drinking mood?”
He pointed at the corpse demon outside.
The corpse demon swiftly appeared before him, gripping his neck and lifting him into the air.
His drunkenness vanished instantly, eyes wide with terror as he realized what he faced. He screamed sharply.
Finding the noise intolerable, the corpse demon opened its mouth, sucking all the man’s blood inside. The man tried to scream but no sound emerged; his tongue dissolved into blood and was swallowed as well. In the end, only a clothed skeleton remained, held in the corpse demon’s hand.
With a swipe of its talon, the bones crumbled into black sand-like dust and fell to the ground, piling like water-sand.
The whole process took less than a second; the man’s blood was completely drained.

“What the hell? We just wanted you to check, not make so much noise!”
Three men angrily pounded the table and staggered toward the corpse demon.
Seeing one man dead, their drunkenness melted away. Trembling, they screamed and panicked, trying to flee.
The corpse demon circulated its demonic energy, flames of black energy swirling around it like fire.
It formed hands of energy that grabbed the three men’s necks as they fled.
With terrified expressions, their necks were snapped backward ninety degrees, eyes wide, faces contorted with fear.
The corpse demon withdrew its energy and vanished into the shadows.
