Chapter 50: The Berserker Immortal Strikes
“Did you encounter any powerful demons?”
Wang Kai murmured to himself, utterly confused.
How could Liu Man and the others not have come across any demon powerhouses?
Liu Qingyao was a figure of special significance among the demons; there was no reason for them not to rescue her. Even if they didn’t intend to save her, they would at least try to eliminate her.
So what on earth was going on?
He looked at Liu Man in front of him, suspicion clouding his eyes. “What exactly happened? How could you not have run into any demon experts?”
Liu Man shook his head gently. “We have no idea what’s going on either, but along the way, we really didn’t see a single demon powerhouse, not even a trace of one.”
The absence of any pursuit by the demons left him baffled, unable to grasp what the demon clan was up to.
Were they giving up, or not? Everyone was at a loss.
If he could, he would have loved to grab a demon expert and demand to know what game they were playing.
After a moment of silence, Wang Kai fixed his gaze on Liu Man. “On your journey, aside from being harassed by Old Rascal Zhou Xiaoxiao, did you encounter anyone else?”
Liu Man had already reported that they had been played by Old Rascal Zhou Xiaoxiao.
Though anger simmered within him, he felt helpless—at least, he was grateful that it had only been Zhou Xiaoxiao.
Had it been anyone else, they might all have perished.
“We only ran into the Old Rascal.”
Liu Man narrowed his eyes and spoke in a low voice, “But, Chief, I have a feeling that someone has been following us. Who they are or why they’re tailing us, I can’t fathom.”
That sense of being watched had begun half a month ago.
At first, it was a subtle thing, easy to ignore.
But after not seeing any trace of the demons, coupled with a growing unease, he couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was shadowing them.
Both Wang Zimo and Hua Manlou had sensed it as well.
“Someone’s tailing you?”
Wang Kai repeated the words to himself.
He didn’t think Liu Man would lie, nor invent an excuse to mislead him.
If Liu Man felt it, then it must be true—someone really was following them.
But who?
Wang Kai asked, “Did you send anyone to find out who exactly is lurking around you?”
“Alas!”
Liu Man heaved a heavy sigh and shook his head. “They’re incredibly well-hidden, always on the move and never leaving a trace. Even Zimo couldn’t uncover them.”
Wang Zimo was a master tracker, the most observant among their ‘Azure Sky Guard,’ yet even after being sent to investigate, he came back empty-handed.
They hadn’t caught a glimpse or even the faintest trace of their pursuers.
Despite that, Wang Zimo was certain—they were being followed.
Who these people were, or what their purpose might be, remained a total mystery.
“Experts…”
Wang Kai’s eyes narrowed, his expression darkening.
Anyone who could elude Wang Zimo had to be an expert—one of the very best.
Who was Wang Zimo?
He was their finest tracker in the Azure Sky Guard. If even he couldn’t pick up a trail, then their pursuers were truly formidable.
After a long silence, Wang Kai’s face grew stern. “Return as soon as possible. I’ll send people to meet you on the way. Be vigilant, and don’t let anyone take Liu Qingyao from you.”
“Yes!”
Liu Man replied with icy resolve.
…
Late into the night.
Suddenly.
On watch in the trees, Hua Manlou’s expression grew tense. He sprang to his feet, drawing his sword, eyes alert to every shadow.
Someone was approaching.
He couldn’t tell who, but he was sure of it—someone was drawing near.
And not just one person.
As he braced himself, ten figures in black appeared—it was Luo Yun and his group.
Seeing them, Hua Manlou’s nerves tightened, his eyes narrowing to slits, his grip on his sword tightening. “Who are you people?”
Luo Yun, leading them, said nothing. With a silent gesture, he waved his right hand. Instantly, one of the black-clad figures brandished a Tang blade and lunged at him.
“You’re Berserk Immortals?”
Sensing their auras, Hua Manlou’s face changed dramatically. Without hesitation, he unleashed his full power.
Berserk Immortals?
How could there be Berserk Immortals here?
And ten of them, all at once.
From the energy radiating from their bodies, he quickly realized that among them were those who had attacked them before.
He couldn’t understand why the Berserk Immortals, notorious for their solitary ways, would unite, but their arrival filled him with dread.
Luo Yun commanded three of the Berserk Immortals to attack Hua Manlou, then turned his gaze toward a cave not far away. He gestured forward.
The rest, receiving the order, charged toward the cave with their Tang blades drawn.
Seeing their target, Hua Manlou’s expression turned grim. He shouted, “Brother Liu, Berserk Immortals are approaching—be careful!”
Inside the cave, Liu Man and the others, roused by Hua Manlou’s warning, sprang to their feet and grabbed their weapons.
Berserk Immortals!
Hua Manlou would never lie to them, which meant the threat was real.
Hearing Hua Manlou, Qin Lang’s lips curved in a faint smile. It seemed Luo Yun and his group were moving as planned—he couldn’t fall behind, either.
Rising, Qin Lang took up his own weapon—the blade that had claimed a thousand lives.
Even Liu Qingyao, lying nearby, shuddered at the words “Berserk Immortals.” Could the demon clan have paid a hefty price—no, offered some special information—to enlist them for her rescue?
Berserk Immortals cared nothing for cultivation resources; intelligence was their only passion, vital and desperately sought after…
Soon, Luo Yun led the Berserk Immortals into the cave. Sizing up the group, each radiating formidable power, Liu Man and the others grew tense, swallowing nervously.
These people were terrifying—any one of them could crush the group with ease, let alone nine of them together.
With a cold glance at the group, Luo Yun waved his hand, signaling the Berserk Immortals to deal with them, while he himself strode toward Liu Qingyao.
“They’re after Liu Qingyao!”
Struggling to fend off the Berserk Immortals, Liu Man’s face darkened. “Zimo, Momo, Brother Qin—get Liu Qingyao out of here! I’ll hold them off!”
Summoning every ounce of strength, Liu Man forced back the Berserk Immortal before him, then rushed to block the cave entrance, determined not to let them advance another step.
