Chapter 147: Too Dangerous, I Won't Do It
Chapter 147: Too Dangerous, I'm Not Doing It (Third Update)
"I probably could, but it's too dangerous, I'm not doing it!"
Hearing this, Lightning gave the jade seal treasure a few more careful glances, and once again gave a prompt and decisive answer.
With that, it added, "Placing these three treasures here is definitely a trap set by some insidious bastard, just waiting for cultivators who come here to take the bait!"
Fang Junmei's cheek twitched violently upon hearing this.
Is this the attitude a pet should have?
Why are other people's pets so obedient, while mine is an absolute prima donna? Whenever danger arises, it shirks responsibility!
"What did it say?"
Chaos Blade immediately asked. From Fang Junmei's expression, he could tell he had been conversing with Lightning.
Fang Junmei relayed Lightning's exact words to him.
After hearing them, Chaos Blade gave him a bizarre look and shook his head, as if saying, you can't even manage your own pet?
Fang Junmei offered a bitter smile.
"Lightning, good Lightning, Big Brother Lightning, please go fetch them for us. How can we miss such a magnificent stroke of fate? Junmei and I will definitely ensure your safety, and if you have any demands later, just name them."
Chaos Blade dashed over to Lightning's side, stroking its back, and said with a flattering, cheeky smile, looking utterly shameless.
Lightning snorted with disdain.
Chaos Blade looked at Fang Junmei, who spread his hands to indicate he could do nothing.
"Junmei, since it's your pet, it must obey you. There is no reason for it to back down when facing danger. Give it a bit of a hard time so it knows who's boss!"
Chaos Blade said in a cold voice.
Bang!
The words had barely left his mouth when Lightning's hoof kicked viciously into his belly. Chaos Blade let out a miserable scream and went flying backward.
Neigh—
With a long neigh, Lightning glared fiercely at Chaos Blade, its gaze sharp and piercing.
"Lightning, stop!"
Fang Junmei hurriedly said, flashing in front of him.
"Blade, to me, Lightning is both teacher and friend."
Fang Junmei then turned to Chaos Blade and said, "Never say such things again. If it refuses to act, then forget it. These three treasures seem to be a trap anyway, so let's not test them further."
Chaos Blade smiled bitterly upon hearing this, sensing for the first time a side to Fang Junmei's temperament that he found unappealing. But since Fang Junmei disagreed, he had no other choice. Rubbing his belly, he slowly dragged himself up. Lightning had definitely held back with that kick.
"Let's go," Fang Junmei softly said.
The two men and one beast moved forward once more. Chaos Blade cast a deeply reluctant gaze toward the three treasures, looking as though he were parting forever with his dearest lover—filled with bitterness and sorrow.
...
"Someone is coming up behind us, three fellows, and their auras are unfamiliar to me!"
Before they had even crossed the hall, Lightning suddenly spoke up.
Hearing this, Fang Junmei immediately sent a voice transmission to Chaos Blade.
"Since they're behind us, they must have come through the teleportation array," Chaos Blade said immediately.
Fang Junmei nodded. After his gaze flickered rapidly for a few moments, he said, "Keep moving forward. Let's see if there's a safe, dark place where we can stop for a moment. I want to see who these three fellows are."
Chaos Blade and Lightning nodded in agreement.
Without another word, they pressed forward.
Another long corridor lay ahead, though it wasn't dark. The glowing pearls remained on the walls. Fang Junmei and Chaos Blade worked together, silently shattering the pearls into powder, plunging the corridor into layers of shadow.
The two men and the beast continued forward until they were certain their figures had vanished into the darkness. Then, they stopped and looked back toward the direction they had come from. Because of the illumination the pearls had previously provided, the scene inside the Three Treasures Hall was still clearly visible from this vantage point.
In this space, spiritual awareness could not extend beyond the body, so they had to rely entirely on their naked eyes.
...
Rumble—
About the time it takes to brew a cup of tea, the sound of combat echoed from the left passage. Clearly, the newcomers had chosen the door on the left first.
The sounds of fighting lasted for a dozen breaths before fading away. Fang Junmei and Chaos Blade exchanged a glance, guessing that the three people had undoubtedly retreated first. Next, they would likely try another door to explore, and that door was highly likely to be the middle one they had entered!
Absolute silence reigned.
This stillness did not last long before the faint sound of footsteps drifted over from the distance. Indeed, the newcomers had entered this place.
The group advanced extremely slowly and cautiously. After another tea-brewing's time passed, Fang Junmei, Chaos Blade, and Lightning finally saw them enter the Three Treasures Hall.
Five figures—four men and a woman, a mix of demonic and righteous cultivators. Their cultivation realms were at the early and middle stages of the Dao Foundation realm!
To Fang Junmei's surprise, one of them was an acquaintance: Feng Wanhai, who had once fought an intense battle with Fan Lanzhou before ultimately losing to him.
"Wu Zixu from the Desolate Sword Palace, Elder Kumu from the Myriad Barbarians Mountain, Nun Wuhuan from the Wild Fox Nunnery, Lu Xiao from the White Cloud Immortal Sect, and that fellow from your Taoyuan Sword Sect."
Chaos Blade's voice sounded in Fang Junmei's sea of consciousness. His knowledge base was slightly superior to Fang Junmei's.
Fang Junmei nodded slightly, matching names to faces one by one.
Clearly, this was a team that had banded together for some unknown reason. Yet such a team, while appearing powerful, was prone to immediate collapse the moment benefits were involved.
...
"Top-tier magical treasures!"
As the five entered the hall and saw the three treasures, their eyes lit up fiercely. Nun Wuhuan of the Wild Fox Nunnery cried out in surprise.
Swish!
With the sound of a piercing wind, Elder Kumu of the Myriad Barbarians Mountain was the first to charge forward, grabbing for one of them.
Swish!
Immediately following the first sound, Lu Xiao of the White Cloud Immortal Sect rushed out by a hair's breadth, lunging for another. The greed in his eyes was more intense than anyone else's.
The hearts of the other three beat wildly with excitement, but they were more cautious and felt something was amiss.
"Wait, something's wrong, don't touch them!"
Wu Zixu shouted loudly.
Hearing this, Nun Wuhuan and Feng Wanhai forcefully suppressed the greed in their hearts, whereas Elder Kumu and Lu Xiao had already been blinded by avarice and ignored the warning, continuing their grab!
Seeing that the two did not stop, Wu Zixu's gaze turned gloomy for a moment before he abruptly spun around and retreated back down the entrance corridor.
Nun Wuhuan and Feng Wanhai hesitated for a fraction of a second before following him.
Almost the instant the three flashed back, the hands of Elder Kumu and Lu Xiao reached within an inch of the two top-tier magical treasures.
But the bizarre thing happened in the next moment!
Their hands passed right through. Those two top-tier magical treasures seemed entirely formless and illusory, and simultaneously, screams rang out immediately afterward!
The outstretched arms of the two men—which had passed right through—vanished without a sound, as if bitten off by an invisible monster. Not even a fragment of white bone or broken flesh was left behind.
"Ah—"
Screams tore from the throats of the two men. Terrified as if they had seen a ghost, they yanked back their mutilated stumps and spun around to flee.
Blood spurted from the wounds, smooth as if sliced by a blade.
Meanwhile, the two illusory-looking top-tier magical treasures were now spattered with a layer of fresh blood, making it impossible to tell whether they were real or fake anymore.
In the darkness, Chaos Blade watched with a shudder, cold sweat beading on his forehead. It was fortunate Fang Junmei had stopped him earlier.
...
Bang! Bang!
After flying backward, Elder Kumu and Lu Xiao crashed heavily to the ground.
As for Wu Zixu and the other two, seeing no further attacks, they breathed a sigh of relief and stepped back into the hall.
"Brother Wu, what on earth is going on here?"
Elder Kumu rapidly tapped his fingers to stop the bleeding, then swallowed a medicinal pill before asking Wu Zixu with lingering fear.
Wu Zixu carefully swept his gaze over the three top-tier magical treasures and shook his head. "I don't know what's going on either, but since the people who came before us destroyed the stone puppets further back, they must have come through here. Unless there is something strange about this, there is no reason for them not to take these three treasures."
His reasoning was thorough indeed.
Hearing this, the other four thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. Elder Kumu and Lu Xiao felt a surge of regret, silently cursing themselves for letting greed cloud their judgment so easily.
Having finished speaking, Wu Zixu looked toward the darkness where Fang Junmei and his companions were hiding. Noticing his gaze, the other four turned to look as well.
Staring for a moment without saying a word, Wu Zixu cast a fireball spell straight into the shadows.
Whoosh—
The fireball roared forward, illuminating the corridor.
Knowing they could no longer hide, Fang Junmei and the others extinguished the fireball with a single palm strike and stepped out from the gloom.
...
"So it's just two late-Dust-Condensation fellows and a spirit beast," Lu Xiao said with a trace of disdain, clearly not taking them seriously. He didn't believe they were the ones who had killed the stone puppets earlier; they had most likely picked up scraps left by predecessors.
"You two brats, planning to pick up our leftovers?" Elder Kumu sneered. "Even if the two of us are missing an arm, you're still not qualified to swallow us whole."
"Little brothers, I advise you to be sensible and hand over your storage bags. That way, you might just save your lives," Nun Wuhuan said in a seductive voice.
"Brother Feng, that fellow belongs to your Taoyuan Sword Sect. Do you have any opinions on this?" Lu Xiao asked Feng Wanhai.
Feng Wanhai remained coldly silent, the look he cast at Fang Junmei as deep and icy as a wolf's.
"Why bother asking? He's already killed one of his fellow disciples anyway; what's killing a few more?" Wu Zixu said indifferently.
Fang Junmei had originally been listening with a cold face and no particular expression, but hearing those words, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes as he demanded, "Feng Wanhai, who did you kill?"
"Who I kill is none of your business!" Feng Wanhai's gaze was as freezing as a lone wolf's.
"Haha—"
A burst of laughter echoed. Wu Zixu said, "Brother Feng is truly one of our kind. If you are willing to join our Desolate Sword Palace, Wu welcomes you wholeheartedly and will personally introduce you to my master's sect."
Fang Junmei stared deeply at Feng Wanhai, a chill rising within him.
And this battle was now inevitable!
Exchanging a glance with Chaos Blade, Fang Junmei sent a mental transmission: "Lightning, go."
Swish—
As the words fell, a sharp whistling wind pierced the air. Lightning shot forward like a bolt of electricity. Because of its entry, countless cultivators from both the righteous and demonic paths were destined to meet an accidental death in this secret realm.
