Volume One, Chapter 28: Wedding Invitation
Lai Shi refused to believe in defeat. Power surged through his entire body, and behind him appeared a pool, above which blue lotuses floated one after another. The vision that manifested was wholly woven from the laws of light, yet at this moment, it seemed almost tangible.
“Apart from the brand-new processor, as a computer system, it will surpass your imagination and make our work and entertainment far more exciting.” Eckhard’s brief introduction piqued the journalists’ curiosity; they were eager to try it themselves and see what had changed.
The moment the elder appeared, all the martial artists—except for the ten elders presiding over the ten arenas in the sky—fell to their knees. Of course, among them, Liu Hai and Chen Yujiao were exceptions.
The next morning, Wang Lang rose early, standing in line in front of the dormitory flagpole, waiting for Zhao Meili to come and pick a fight.
Xia Yurou saw Lin Tian leave, following her words, and glanced at the tree that had just borne witness to their struggle.
Hou Liang turned to Lin Tian again, his tone cool and indifferent, though his words were unmistakably a command from someone high above.
“It’s useless. Your attacks can’t even scratch the space bridge,” Red Spider declared smugly, knowing this time the Decepticons had scored a rare victory.
By now, Liu Hai was certain these people were there to keep all men away from Qin Ruolan. To him, it was pure foolishness. He skirted the three and headed toward the dormitory.
Su Yaxuan lowered her voice as much as she could, her ambiguous cries making her blush; her delicate face was tinged with a rosy flush.
“Dongfang Yu, time and again you’ve brought catastrophe to mortals. If we do not execute you today, we are unworthy of our titles as the Five Emperors!” Emperor Xuanyuan bellowed sternly.
Xu Feng threw a punch at the chest of one of the seventh-rank Spirit Sect elders, who collapsed instantly without a hint of resistance.
Shen Qiansan was indeed tempted. With the Celestial Web in hand, he could make the Celestial Battalion of the Luomu Continent just as powerful, able to track anyone’s whereabouts at will. What a marvelous thing that would be!
Like Sheng Qingru, two days and nights of non-stop work had drained Wang Chen. He grabbed a quick lunch before heading back to his room for a nap. Unlike Sheng Qingru, he hadn’t set an alarm, so it wasn’t until nightfall, when someone knocked, that he woke.
Today, Zhang Boqin seemed a bit off. He wore thick black-rimmed glasses, feigning the air of an old scholar, but his gaze toward Helan Xue was tinged with lecherous intent.
People like them cared deeply about feng shui, so when building this residence, they specifically hired a master in the art.
Old Zhu had just bent over, rear end sticking out, to grab a washbasin when he heard the sound of retching. As he turned his head, his bulky body lost balance and he crashed to the ground with a thud.
While Yu Fei was lost in thought, a major in uniform stepped up to the podium, gave everyone a crisp military salute, and began briefing them on a recent incident.
No wonder: with Liang Tian’s protection, no matter how hard Du Kang and his companions searched, they’d never find Zhu Hong.
Seeing Xu Feng lingering so long at the first step of the Ninefold Heavenly Path, someone burst into mocking laughter.
“Your Majesty! How should we report to the Romanlov royal family?” Li Yangde inquired at this point.
Perhaps because Xiang Qing had been so well cared for during her pregnancy, she was surprisingly energetic after giving birth. Even as the doctors wheeled her out of the delivery room, she still looked lively, nothing like a woman who had just struggled through labor.
Shuixian hesitated a moment, nodded, and left without thinking further, afraid Su Jinghui would sense her thoughts and grow even more displeased.
Xiang’er agreed and followed the carriage. Shuixian, quick-witted as ever, immediately sensed something was wrong, tensed, and shot a discreet glance at the coachman Fugui and the coarse maid beside him.
Su Jinghui noticed everything but gave nothing away. She simply ordered Shuixian to lead ten people to Madam Zuo, who would arrange food and drink, while she herself took Xiang’er to visit Madam Suye.
With a heavy bang, the door slammed shut, the muffled sound reverberating in Xiang Qing’s heart. Her chest tightened as if the door itself had trapped her, making it hard to breathe.
After being struck by Gongsun Zan’s arrow, Lü Bu flew into a rage and turned to attack him. Yuan Yi quickly took the chance to drag Wang Kuang away. Seeing Lü Bu charging straight at him, Gongsun Zan dared not engage. He hastily drew his sword and stabbed at his horse’s flank. The startled horse bolted, and for the moment, Lü Bu could not catch up.
Xiao Yan instinctively reached out and quietly tugged at Xu Jin Qiao’s sleeve, feeling a bit nervous inside.
Yet even the seemingly small amounts of discarded food terrified the Xianbei invaders. Every time they entered the city to search and saw rations scattered everywhere, they refused to camp inside for fear of another devastating fire during the night.
As they traveled, they noticed that the trees and vegetation along the way dwindled. There was no sign of logging, but the greenery seemed to have been forcefully snuffed out, growing rarer and rarer. By the time they reached the place Yan Xiao had mentioned, all vegetation had vanished.
Never mind him—if there really was a world of cultivation, even Lin Xuan would want to learn those arts.
I found my place, knelt, and sat back on my heels, eyes on my nose, nose on my heart, not daring to slack off for a second.
After these days of fierce fighting, the soldiers seemed possessed, a development that left Qi Jiguang with a vague sense of unease.
Xu Jie slowly recovered his senses. He hadn’t expected Yan Shifan to be so ruthless; this veiled rebuke was executed to perfection. Even if the Prince of Dai survived, he would surely pay a steep price.
It was an excellent ambush. If Yang Xiu’s group had been fully trapped, it would have been over for them. Unfortunately for the attackers, their commander got impatient; when they sprang the trap, the south gate hadn’t yet been fully shut.
He’d pushed the Annihilation Hammer Art to its limits. The once-dull heavy hammer was now wreathed in thunder, crackling with lightning.
Me? Ever since the Crown Prince arrived at the training ground, I had been hiding in the corner. When did he notice me—and why would he ask Wu Feng for me?
Perhaps even Luo Xue herself hadn’t realized that her trust in Yin Lin had all but vanished. She no longer idolized him as she once had, believing he could do no wrong. At first, Yin Lin had seemed noble, but now his actions were shrouded in darkness.
