Chapter 80: There Is Indeed Something Wrong with Him!
Jiang Shaoxiong, whose condition had gradually eased on the chair, clutched his chest with lingering fear and gratitude for Su Zheng’s timely rescue. “May I ask, young man, who are you and where do you work?”
“You’re too kind. It was nothing, President Jiang. Please don’t trouble yourself over it,” Su Zheng replied with a gentle wave and a polite smile.
“President Jiang, his name is Su Zheng. He’s a miracle doctor!” Li Yanze hurried to introduce Su Zheng, his face filled with absolute conviction.
“Haha... It seems my luck isn’t so bad after all. Fortunately, I met Doctor Su. Doctor Su, may I ask where you learned such remarkable medical skills?” President Jiang exclaimed with repeated admiration, then turned curiously to Su Zheng.
“I haven’t really studied anywhere—just read a few medical books,” Su Zheng answered with a smile, deflecting the question casually.
“Haha... Those few books you read must be extraordinary!” President Jiang, ever perceptive, spoke with a hint of reflection and meaning. His old ailment had struck him more than once. Even when rushed to the best hospitals, recovery had always been arduous. Yet now, a man who claimed to have merely read some medical books had cured him so swiftly—how could that be possible?
“In any case, I must sincerely thank you, Doctor Su. Once I recover, I’ll visit you personally to express my gratitude for your skill and compassion!” Jiang Shaoxiong once again offered heartfelt thanks to Su Zheng, promising to pay him a personal visit in the future. His expression was filled with gratitude.
Su Zheng responded politely as well. At that moment, a servant entered to report that the ambulance had arrived, so Jiang Shaoxiong was assisted by his female aide and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Li Yanze and Li Yanjun, the two brothers, once again thanked Su Zheng profusely. Their gratitude even reached Li Jiangcheng, the family patriarch, who appeared in person to thank Su Zheng.
After several rounds of pleasantries, Su Zheng finally took his leave and headed home.
On the way, Chen Muxue, who was driving, still hadn’t shaken off her astonishment. Su Zheng had actually cured President Jiang’s illness and earned the Li family’s gratitude and respect.
It all seemed like a dream to her, almost impossible to believe that it was real.
“Just focus on driving. I’d read about Jiang Shaoxiong’s condition in a book before, and this time I happened to encounter it. I didn’t expect it myself, really...” Seeing Chen Muxue repeatedly glancing at him, her eyes full of curiosity and doubt, Su Zheng could only smile and fabricate an excuse.
“You really are unbelievably lucky. If only we’d known, we should have bought a lottery ticket!” Chen Muxue teased, casting Su Zheng a playful glance. Whether she believed him or not was unclear, but she focused on driving and stopped scrutinizing him.
Su Zheng gazed at the night scenery outside the window, feeling quite content. Yet he resolved quietly that he would find the time to get his driver’s license, so he wouldn’t have to rely on Chen Muxue every time.
When they arrived home, Chen Jianguo and Lü Hongmei were sitting on the sofa, sighing heavily. As Su Zheng and Chen Muxue entered, Chen Jianguo’s face instantly flared with anger.
“Su Zheng! You little wretch, look at what you’ve done!” In his fury, he grabbed the teacup from the coffee table and hurled it at Su Zheng.
With a soft thud, Su Zheng tilted his head slightly, and the cup shattered against the wall.
“You’ve ruined our family! What’s the point of living now? I’m going to fight you!” Chen Jianguo, eyes bloodshot, charged at Su Zheng as if ready to risk everything.
“Dad! Calm down!” Chen Muxue frowned, rushing to block him. “You’re misunderstanding Su Zheng! Can’t you just let me explain?”
“Muxue! How can you still defend this scoundrel? Get out of the way and let me finish him!” Chen Jianguo’s eyes were red with rage, and he was breathing heavily, his hatred for Su Zheng at its peak.
“Oh, Dad! Why can’t you just calm down?” Chen Muxue said, frustrated, her face anxious and helpless.
“Listen to me first. We don’t have to pay any money. Su Zheng just won a bet with someone!” She struggled to restrain Chen Jianguo and quickly explained.
“Don’t make excuses for him... Wait, what did you say? We don’t have to pay? He... he won?” Chen Jianguo, about to explode again, froze, disbelief written all over his face.
“Are you serious?” he asked again, almost unable to believe it.
“Dad, sit down first. Why is it that as you get older, your temper gets worse? Can’t you just let me finish?” Chen Muxue complained impatiently.
“Fine, fine, I’ll sit. Quick, tell me what happened,” Chen Jianguo’s anger turned to joy as he urged Chen Muxue to explain.
So Chen Muxue gave a brief account of what had happened after they left.
“Hahaha... Wonderful! Just wonderful! We’re rich now, a hundred million! Show me, who did the money go to?” Chen Jianguo was overjoyed, more excited than if he’d won the lottery, eager to know where the huge sum had ended up.
Chen Muxue’s face darkened. Earlier at the Li family’s house, Li Yanze had indeed wanted to transfer the hundred million to Su Zheng, but Su Zheng refused, instead asking Li Yanze to buy some medicinal herbs for him, though she hadn’t caught the details.
“The money... Su Zheng didn’t take it,” she answered, her own feelings conflicted. She thought Su Zheng was being wasteful—how could he refuse such a huge amount just to buy a few herbs? Was he really so extravagant?
But since the money had been won by Su Zheng himself, she hadn’t objected on the spot.
She had her own pride. Since Su Zheng didn’t want to share the money with her, she would never ask for it.
“What?! What are you talking about?!” Chen Jianguo’s eyes nearly popped out of his head as he leapt up in fury once more.
“You fool! A hundred million! Why... why didn’t you take it? Are you out of your mind?!” He shouted at Su Zheng, furious and disappointed, raising his hand to strike, but was held back by Lü Hongmei.
“Ah, I suppose our family is just doomed to poverty, stuck with such a fool and nothing we can do about it!” Lü Hongmei, equally exasperated, glared at Su Zheng, her gaze almost murderous.
“Enough, both of you. If it comes to it, I’ll support you in the future!” Chen Muxue, not in the best mood herself, spoke and then went straight to her room.
“Ah!” Chen Jianguo slumped heavily onto the sofa, trembling with anger. Seeing Su Zheng sitting calmly on the sofa, he waved his hand in disgust, shouting, “Get out, get out! I can’t stand the sight of you! Just disappear!”
Su Zheng ignored him, his expression untroubled, and returned to his own room.
The next morning, Chen Muxue went to the company early, not even staying for breakfast.
After Su Zheng woke, he went downstairs to exercise in the neighborhood, then returned to prepare breakfast.
Chen Jianguo and Lü Hongmei’s faces were still sour, their eyes bloodshot, clearly having lost sleep over the money.
