Chapter Fifty-Five: The Li Family of Qingyang
Chen Wenli struggled to keep herself calm and continued, “But now, you all can see what a mess Haoyuan Trading is. There’s no way to meet the conditions Chen Muxue promised. So all she can do is rob Peter to pay Paul, tricking more people into her schemes.”
“You’re all victims here. She wanted to take your money, and just when she was about to be exposed, she dragged my father from the family to take the blame. Perhaps you don’t know how that wretched woman, Chen Muxue, wept and begged my father to come here, insisting he manage this company.”
“At the time, I found it odd, but seeing her beg so piteously, I pitied her and persuaded my father to take over the company.”
“Who could have imagined that she’d even deceive her own family? She deliberately delayed the shipments from the factory, just to set us against each other so we’d be too distracted to pay attention to her.”
The more Chen Wenli spoke, the more confident she became, convinced she could rally these people to her side and ultimately pin all the blame on Chen Muxue.
“As for the transfer records you saw on the computer, they were also at Chen Muxue’s direction. She begged my father and me to help her get some cash, saying it was urgent. Out of family loyalty, we took a huge risk to help her. I have proof—just say the word and I’ll have someone bring it for you to see!”
At this, Chen Wenli took out her phone, a glint of murderous intent flashing deep in her eyes as she sent a message to Chen Peng.
She had already decided: Chen Peng must find someone to kill Chen Muxue immediately. Only then would all evidence die with her.
This way, she could insist everything was Chen Muxue’s idea and cover up the crimes she and her father had committed.
“Who are you about to send that to? Come, let me take a look!” Wei the Second, a man of the underworld who knew all the ins and outs of this affair, instantly sensed the murderous aura Chen Wenli thought she’d concealed so well.
His large hand shot out, snatching Chen Wenli’s phone before she could react.
“Hey, you can’t look at my phone! Ah—”
With a thud, Wei the Second kicked her aside, sending her sprawling to the floor.
“Damn, women really are the most vicious. How can someone so young be so utterly heartless?!”
Holding her phone, which still had the unsent message, Wei the Second read it aloud in a booming voice.
“Peng, send someone to take care of that wretched Chen Muxue at once. Don’t ask questions, I’ll handle everything. The situation is urgent—do it now, immediately!”
“Hell, maybe I should just take care of you myself, you venomous bitch!” After reading the message, Wei the Second was seething with rage, and for a moment, he truly contemplated murder.
“Hold it, Wei!” Shen Qingqiang stopped him.
No matter what, he believed that Doctor Su and Mrs. Su in the next room had heard everything. It wasn’t their place to decide how to deal with this father and daughter.
Meanwhile, in another room, Chen Muxue’s delicate body trembled. She’d heard every word of Wei the Second’s reading. Frost crept across her lovely face—she was utterly disillusioned with Chen Wenli.
Besides disappointment, there was fear.
If not for Su Zheng’s orchestration, who knows when she might have truly provoked Chen Wenli and died without even realizing why!
“Su Zheng, what will you do with them?” Chen Muxue’s face was calm, all trace of pity gone, as she quietly asked Su Zheng.
She hadn’t noticed that in recent days, she’d grown used to seeking Su Zheng’s advice, relying on him without even realizing it.
“Don’t worry about them. Let them vent for you. You haven’t even eaten lunch yet. Come, let’s get something to eat. The outcome will be settled soon enough.” Su Zheng smiled gently, paying no mind to the miserable pair next door.
“Yes, you’ve been with me all this time and haven’t eaten either!” Chen Muxue obediently agreed, feeling a pang of guilt remembering that Su Zheng had missed his meal too.
“Solving my wife’s problems is far more important than eating. Let’s go.” Su Zheng teased lightly, taking her hand and leading her outside.
A blush rose to Chen Muxue’s cheeks at his words. As Su Zheng held her hand, her body tensed.
She suddenly remembered her status—she was Su Zheng’s wife, after all. She’d just never given it much thought before.
When Su Zheng’s hand gently squeezed hers, her face flushed even more. She tried to pull her hand away, but he held on firmly, refusing to let go.
Resigned, she lowered her head and let Su Zheng lead her downstairs to eat.
Not long after, Old Madam Chen arrived at the scene, having received a phone call.
After understanding the situation, she first scolded the now-sober Chen Xiong and Chen Wenli, then turned to smooth things over with Wei the Second, Shen Qingqiang, and the others.
“You two useless things, stay out of the way. I’ll deal with you later!” the old lady snapped, then addressed the crowd earnestly, “My family members have been foolish and caused you trouble. Rest assured, I will give you all an explanation. I’ll do everything possible to restore the supply of goods and not disrupt your projects.”
“As for Chen Muxue signing contracts behind my back, she was wrong, and these two fools enabled her. I sincerely apologize. For the sake of my late husband, could you all show the Chen family some mercy?”
Her words were heartfelt, and she invoked her late husband’s memory, hoping to minimize the damage as much as possible.
After all, when the old master was alive, the Chen family was a notable force in Qingyang. Only in recent years had their fortunes begun to decline.
Whenever a difficult dispute arose, the old lady would sometimes invoke her late husband’s name, and usually, someone would give her the courtesy.
But today, her hopes were doomed.
Especially when they saw the old lady believe Chen Wenli’s lies and try to shift all the blame onto Chen Muxue—this made Wei the Second and Shen Qingqiang immediately lose patience.
“Madam, forgive my bluntness, but I have to ask—why do you trust that father and daughter so much? Have they earned the family great wealth, or have they contributed in some other way that makes you speak for them so obviously?”
Shen Qingqiang was genuinely perplexed and couldn’t help but ask, “President Chen Muxue has such ability—why do you always disapprove of her?”
“Hmph… Wenli is clever, obedient, and capable—how could that wretched Muxue compare? Don’t even mention that girl. Marrying a useless man has already brought enough shame to the family!” the old lady huffed, barely able to suppress her anger.
Shen Qingqiang and Wei the Second exchanged bewildered glances, almost thinking they’d misheard!
With Doctor Su’s extraordinary medical skills, could he possibly be called useless?
If Doctor Su was a good-for-nothing, then everyone else present probably didn’t even qualify as trash!
