Chapter Fifty: The Terrifying Weapon
Old Madam Chen’s expression turned unsightly at her granddaughter’s question, but she quickly regained her icy composure.
“That’s all in the past, so let’s not dwell on it now. I’m asking you about the company accounts being checked by the bank—what exactly happened? Tell the truth!”
“That’s because Haoyuan has just secured a batch of orders recently, resulting in a large influx of funds that caught the bank’s attention. It’s just a standard inspection; the accounts will be unfrozen soon. The bank even called me in advance about it.”
Chen Muxue spoke calmly and deliberately glanced at Su Zheng, pride flickering in her eyes.
“You really dare to boast! Do you think we’ll believe you? A huge influx of funds, you say? Ha! Muxue, at a time like this, there’s no need for stubborn resistance. Be careful, or you’ll end up even worse later!”
Seeing the old lady’s angry face, Chen Wenli seized the opportunity to sneer and scold.
“How laughable. I never imagined your family could come up with such an absurd excuse. I think the bank froze Haoyuan Trading’s accounts because you broke some regulation. That sounds much more plausible!”
Chen Jianguo’s sister, Chen Yufeng, spoke coldly and disdainfully.
“What regulation could she have broken? Most likely, she tried to sell off the company’s real estate and got caught!”
Chen Jianguo’s younger sister, Chen Wenping, chimed in, her eyes filled with contempt and resentment.
“Chen Muxue! You listen to me!”
Old Madam Chen suddenly raised her head, her eyes now devoid of even a hint of reluctance. She glared at Chen Muxue with a frosty expression. “If you ever dare to privately scheme for Haoyuan Trading’s real estate, I’ll personally make sure you end up in prison!”
“I only let you manage Haoyuan Trading before—not because it was your family’s business. What right do you have to sell company assets?!”
Chen Muxue was momentarily overwhelmed by the old lady’s scolding.
Since she had taken over the mess that was Haoyuan Trading, she had worked diligently for two years, never daring to slack off, fighting tooth and nail to create profit for the family. Only the pit left by Hongxin’s project payments had kept the accounts from showing a profit.
But if the output ratio was considered, she was no worse than anyone else!
Besides, she was at the company from dawn till dusk, never taking a penny more than she deserved.
And now the old lady was not only denying her achievements but also accusing her of plotting to steal the company’s property!
This made Chen Muxue’s emotions nearly collapse; her expression turned desolate, and she was on the verge of tears.
“Haven’t you had enough?! Muxue is explaining everything kindly, but you ignore her and keep scolding. Is this how a grandmother should behave?!”
Su Zheng finally spoke, gripping Muxue’s cold hand and frowning as he rebuked her.
“You…”
“What about me? Be quiet! The notary is still verifying things with the bank—can’t you even wait a little longer?!”
Su Zheng continued sternly, his tone commanding.
“How dare you! Is that any way to speak to your grandmother? You’re completely out of control!”
Chen Wenli stood up, hands on her hips, shouting loudly.
“You call me brazen? None of you are more brazen than your whole family!”
Su Zheng suddenly raised his hand and pointed at Chen Wenli. “For your own gain, you forged contracts, colluded with outsiders to illegally sell off construction materials, and lined your own pockets—haven’t you and your family done enough of such things? If you claim ignorance, ask your father. Don’t you dare shout at me!”
Su Zheng’s demeanor was resolute; he seemed like a different person, exuding a commanding aura, his eyes clear as he loudly chastised them.
“You… You’re talking nonsense!”
Overwhelmed by his presence, Chen Wenli’s voice weakened, and she struggled to find words to retort.
How could she not know what her father had done behind the scenes? She just hadn’t expected Su Zheng to know as well, let alone expose it in front of everyone, which left her flustered.
“Wenli!”
Chen Xiong could no longer sit still. He worried that if the old lady pursued the matter, things would get out of hand.
His newly acquired successor position might slip away as a result.
“Wenli, don’t bother with that lunatic. Isn’t he always bragging? Let him. All we need to do is wait a bit, and the notary will have the results soon enough.”
Chen Xiong quickly changed the subject, his expression somewhat unnatural as he shot a reproachful glare at Chen Wenli.
The old lady paused, but after a moment’s contemplation, she did not press further.
“Fine. If, when the results come in, it turns out Muxue wasn’t lying and we’ve all completed the tasks the old lady set, I expect our family to receive a fair outcome!”
Su Zheng met everyone’s eyes and spoke loudly.
“Ha…”
At his words, nearly every member of the Chen family shook their heads and sneered, the mockery on their faces only deepening.
No one believed that he and Chen Muxue could actually pull it off!
“A fair outcome? Hmph! Then show us you’re up to the task. Otherwise, the Chen family has no room for freeloaders. After today, your family will be struck from our family records—my word is final!”
Clearly enraged by Su Zheng’s attitude, Old Madam Chen announced loudly.
“Ah…”
Chen Jianguo, hearing this, slid off his chair and squatted on the ground, head in hands, at a loss for words.
With such a useless son-in-law, they deserved to be cast out of the family!
“Madam Chen, the results are in.”
At this moment, the notary reported meticulously.
“Well, go ahead—has that girl finished selling off Haoyuan Trading’s real estate yet?!”
Old Madam Chen glared at Chen Muxue, her tone sour.
“No, there’s no evidence of that. However… we did find that, over the past few days, a large sum of money has been deposited into Haoyuan Trading’s company accounts. The amount we’ve been able to verify so far is more than sixty-seven million, all deposited in the last few days.”
“Uh!”
As the notary finished speaking, the entire Chen family hall fell so silent you could hear a pin drop!
Everyone’s face was filled with utter disbelief.
Some even pinched their own faces to make sure they weren’t dreaming.
Over sixty million in just a few days?
Was this really the same Haoyuan Trading that was on the verge of collapse?
To know that over sixty million in transactions in just a few days was comparable to the performance of a major publicly listed company!
Impossible!
There had to be something fishy going on!
Almost every Chen family member’s first thought, upon recovering from their shock, was disbelief.
Old Madam Chen was dumbfounded too.
“Cough… Are you sure there’s no mistake?” She asked the two notaries with forced patience.
“Impossible. We got the data directly from the bank. In fact, it’s not even complete, because there’s still a large transaction with restricted access that we can’t yet confirm.”
“There’s… there’s more?”
The old lady murmured instinctively, her expression frozen.
“Yes, there’s more, but it’ll take some time. Of the funds we’ve confirmed, four million plus from Hongxin Real Estate was clearly labeled as project payment.”
“There’s also a five million advance from Qiancheng Properties.”
“Another six million advance from Hongxin Real Estate.”
“Five million advance from Mingrun Group.”
“Lücheng…”
“….”
The notary continued his detailed report.
On their computer screen, no fewer than a dozen of Qingyang’s well-known real estate companies had all transferred funds to Haoyuan Trading.
