Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Joy of Harvest
Chen Muxue frowned, but upon seeing the clarity in Su Zheng’s eyes, she stubbornly replied coldly, “His legs are his own, why should I care?” Then she bowed her head and continued to busy herself with her task.
Su Zheng felt a bit awkward, but seeing the slightly mischievous expression on Qiao Lan’s face, he refrained from saying more to Chen Muxue and left the private room with Qiao Lan.
They took the elevator down to the underground parking lot, where Qiao Lan pointed to a luxurious RV ahead and said, “The old master is waiting for you. Let’s go over.”
Su Zheng nodded slightly; he had already guessed who wanted to see him.
Li Jiangcheng.
He hadn’t expected that the old man, whose body had yet to recover, would come in person to meet him. He wondered what matter could be so urgent.
“Divine Doctor Su, my health is still frail, so I couldn’t go upstairs to meet you. Please don’t mind,” Li Jiangcheng greeted him, his complexion still somewhat weak, with a hint of illness on his face.
The strange illness he suffered from had been severe; Su Zheng had already performed a miracle by saving his life. The rest depended on slow recuperation—there was no other cure.
“Old Master Li, you’re too polite. If you need anything, you could just call me; there’s no need to come in person,” Su Zheng replied with a smile, waiting for Li Jiangcheng to speak.
“Divine Doctor Su, your benevolence is admirable. Actually, there’s a matter I’d like to trouble you with,” Li Jiangcheng continued politely, his tone humble, almost pleading, his face carrying a gentle smile and a veiled expectation.
“The Li family manor has stood for over twenty years. Some of the houses have fallen into disrepair, and the roofs leak when it rains. We haven’t found a good construction team to fix them. I heard that your wife specializes in waterproof engineering. So I boldly ask you to help us—would your wife be willing to take up the job and redo the waterproofing for our roofs?”
His words were measured and respectful, lowering his own stance as if asking Su Zheng for a favor, all while maintaining a faint smile and concealed hope.
After Li Yanjun returned in the morning, he had reported everything that happened in the store to Li Jiangcheng. Upon hearing this, Li Jiangcheng had first reprimanded Li Yanjun for his incompetence and then decided to personally step in to ease relations with Su Zheng.
Having brushed past death, Li Jiangcheng valued life more than ever. Su Zheng’s extraordinary medical skills were of immense importance to him.
After careful consideration, the scene before them was orchestrated solely so Su Zheng would not feel repelled, but instead sense the goodwill of the Li family.
Su Zheng hadn’t expected that Li Jiangcheng had come in person just for this matter. A smile slowly spread across his face. “This is a good thing. Don’t worry, it’s not a problem. I’ll accept on Muxue’s behalf.”
“Haha… wonderful! I’ll arrange for the contract to be delivered right away. Divine Doctor Su, thank you so much!” Li Jiangcheng’s aged face broke into a smile, his mood evidently lifted.
Su Zheng smiled as well, though there was a hint of amusement in his expression. He truly hadn’t expected Li Jiangcheng to go to such lengths to curry favor, coming up with such an idea—it was quite painstaking.
After a brief conversation, Li Jiangcheng took his leave, with Qiao Lan accompanying him to care for the old man.
Su Zheng took the elevator back to the private room and found that Chen Muxue had nearly finished her work.
After tidying up a thick stack of contracts, Chen Muxue’s face was radiant with joy and a sense of accomplishment.
Tonight’s harvest was so great it felt unreal. Not only were the contracts signed smoothly, but all deals required payment upfront. Most dreamlike of all, every client transferred the payment immediately.
A rough calculation showed the company made over sixty million tonight, with a net profit of more than twenty million in a single evening—so long as nothing went wrong!
To think that Haoyuan Trading’s annual revenue used to be barely ten million—a comparison that left Chen Muxue stunned and delighted.
“Su Zheng, when did you learn medical skills?” Chen Muxue asked curiously while driving home, her joy barely contained.
“I inherited them from my ancestors. Somehow, I just acquired the ability,” Su Zheng replied calmly.
“Tch! If your ancestors are so helpful, should we host a banquet and treat him to a good meal? Hmph! If you don’t want to tell the truth, forget it!” Chen Muxue scolded playfully, her tone laced with mock annoyance.
Su Zheng smiled. He knew that even if he told the truth, Muxue wouldn’t believe him, so he explained with a slight pause, “Actually, you know I didn’t work before. In my spare time, I read lots of books about medicine. Believe it or not, I did learn quite a bit.”
“That sounds more believable. But let me warn you—you’re not formally trained, so you should avoid treating people. Lives are at stake, and if something goes wrong, we can’t afford to bear that responsibility, understand?” Chen Muxue’s delicate nose twitched as she warned him seriously, first pleased with his ‘truth,’ then stern in caution.
Su Zheng only nodded quietly, which finally eased Chen Muxue’s worry.
The next day, Chen Muxue left early for the company. After Su Zheng finished cleaning the house, planning to brew the Red Mist herbal solution to improve his constitution while his in-laws were out, he received a call from Chen Muxue.
“Su Zheng, Director Wei is at the company. He insists on inviting you to his home. I wanted to refuse, but since he’s a partner, it’s hard to turn him down. Why don’t you go? But remember, if he asks you to treat someone, do not agree—tell him to go to the hospital. We can’t risk it, okay?”
Chen Muxue’s voice was low, obviously speaking behind Director Wei’s back.
Su Zheng agreed readily.
After putting away the Red Mist herb, he went downstairs and saw Director Wei standing by the car with a broad smile.
“Divine Doctor Su, it’s my great fortune to welcome you. Please, come in!” Director Wei said respectfully, inviting Su Zheng into the car with genuine enthusiasm.
The drive lasted about half an hour, taking them to a villa district.
After getting out, Director Wei led the way warmly and respectfully, ushering Su Zheng into a villa.
“Haha… everyone, come meet Divine Doctor Su! He’s my savior—quick, come over!” Director Wei called loudly as soon as they entered, signaling his family to greet Su Zheng.
His wife and two children hurried over, thanking Su Zheng for his timely help.
“Divine Doctor Su, please sit. Wife, make some tea! Why are you just standing there?” Director Wei barked, before sitting respectfully next to Su Zheng, his expression full of hesitation.
Su Zheng smiled quietly, immediately understanding Director Wei’s intentions.
Clearly, Director Wei was worried his family might catch the same strange illness he had suffered, so he had invited Su Zheng over, hoping he would examine them as well.
