Chapter 155: Drunk
It was clear that when Mu Xue Chen spoke those words, it was as if she had summoned an immense resolve, a captivating and unusual glint shimmering in her beautiful eyes. She was Zheng Su’s wife, yet she had never fulfilled the duties of a wife. Now, she had decided to make it up to him.
Without paying any heed to the stunned expression on Zheng Su’s face, she resolutely grabbed his hand and led him toward the hotel adjacent to the company.
Zheng Su felt as if he were in a dream, his head spinning as he followed Mu Xue Chen into the hotel elevator.
Once inside, he glanced up at the floor indicator and softly asked, “Why did you drink so much? You didn’t have to get drunk.”
Although everyone had been enjoying themselves that evening, no one had forced Mu Xue Chen to drink—she had chosen to drink on her own.
Leaning against the elevator wall, Mu Xue Chen suddenly moved her head close to Zheng Su’s face and smiled sweetly. “If I don’t get drunk, how else would you have a chance...?”
Though she spoke with a smile, her tone was resolute. For two years, she had resisted, avoided him, but Zheng Su’s actions made her feel selfish. Her man should not have to endure such treatment.
So if she did not take this chance, while drunk, to surrender herself to Zheng Su, she did not know when—or if—she would ever accept him. Perhaps, she might never truly accept him in her lifetime.
After all, their marriage had been arranged by her grandfather’s command, not a choice born from her own heart.
Hearing this, Zheng Su’s heart jolted sharply, as if he had seen through Mu Xue Chen’s soul. He realized that her current actions were more out of gratitude than genuine love.
He felt a sudden pang of bitterness and anger, his face cold as he said, “I don’t want an opportunity like that.”
He admitted that in her drunken state, Mu Xue Chen appeared more alluring, and any man would instinctively feel possessive. But he, Zheng Su, scorned taking advantage of such a moment. Besides, he had never harbored any impure intentions toward her.
After all, he did not want to become her true husband under such circumstances.
Mu Xue Chen was slightly taken aback by his words. A flicker of something unusual passed through her eyes. She parted her rosy lips, hesitating to speak.
“Ding!”
At that moment, the elevator arrived. Zheng Su once again steadied her arm as they stepped out.
The suite was on the highest floor of the hotel, luxuriously decorated yet warm and inviting, with a faint fragrance of flowers lingering in the air.
Once inside, Mu Xue Chen felt the dizziness deepen. Her head spun wildly; she could barely stand. Staggering, she stumbled toward the living room sofa and collapsed into it, closing her eyes and murmuring incoherently.
Zheng Su shook his head with a hint of helplessness. Looking around the room, he walked over to the water dispenser and poured her a glass of water, his voice soft, “Drink some water. It’ll help you feel better.”
Mu Xue Chen seemed to have fallen asleep, her eyes tightly shut, not responding.
“Mu Xue, Mu Xue?”
Zheng Su gently shook her shoulder, but there was no reaction.
He placed the glass on the table and sat beside her. Slowly, he removed the hand she had wrapped around his chest.
Her eyelashes fluttered slightly. Pretending to be asleep, her heart suddenly raced with anxiety, and nervously, she curled her toes.
Ha!
Seeing me asleep, are you going to take advantage now?
Men... really are just like the books say!
Just as she hesitated, wondering whether to stop Zheng Su, she suddenly felt his warm palm grasp her hand, gently massaging just above her ring finger.
Mu Xue Chen was slightly surprised, silently thinking, “Could it be that Zheng Su is some kind of pervert who’s obsessed with touching girls?”
She couldn’t help but open her eyes slightly and stole a glance at him.
“Alright, stop pretending to sleep.”
Without even looking at her, Zheng Su said calmly, “I’m pressing the Guan Chong acupoint on your hand. It helps promote the body’s water and grain metabolism and speeds up the elimination of alcohol. You’ll sober up soon.”
Mu Xue Chen’s heart skipped a beat at his words. She quickly shut her eyes tight again, pressing her lips together nervously.
That bastard—how did he know she was pretending to sleep?
But she had to admit, his massage technique was quite pleasant. Her head was already feeling less dizzy.
Zheng Su glanced at her trembling eyelashes, resembling a child feigning sleep, and couldn’t help but smile. Somehow, Mu Xue Chen seemed oddly endearing.
“Alright, that’s enough. Get up and drink some water.”
He withdrew his hand, stood up, and headed toward the bathroom.
“I’m going to take a shower first. After I’m done, please clear the sofa for me—I want to sleep.”
He was considerate, feeling that since the suite was basically a one-bedroom apartment, it was more fitting for him to sleep on the sofa.
With that, he grabbed his towel, clothes, and toiletries and went into the bathroom, turning on the water.
Mu Xue Chen secretly opened her eyes to watch his retreating figure one more time, then quickly turned over to face the back of the sofa, curling up inside, fuming.
That bastard—did she say he could sleep on the sofa?!
Did that mean she was that unattractive?!
Though conflicted in her heart and not truly ready to give herself to him, hearing those words come from Zheng Su’s mouth was unbearable.
It was a severe challenge to her charm!
While Mu Xue Chen was lost in her thoughts, she failed to notice a faint noise coming from the security door at the living room entrance. Suddenly, the suite door was slowly pushed open, and a shadow slipped in quickly.
It was a short, stout middle-aged man dressed in a red silk Tang suit, wearing a pair of Prada loafers—a man of some status, yet his expression was lecherous. Once inside, he carefully locked the door behind him and tiptoed toward the living room.
When he spotted Mu Xue Chen curled up on the sofa with her back to the door, his face immediately lit up with a wide grin. His eyes swept over her slender waist, rounded, full hips, and the legs and feet wrapped in black stockings. His body trembled with excitement as he swallowed hard.
“That bastard Peng Chen wasn’t lying—haha... she really is exquisite!”
The man’s face showed wild delight. He was extremely pleased with Peng Chen, who had provided him the information.
Peng Chen’s hatred toward Zheng Su and Mu Xue Chen was indescribable. They had been waiting for the right moment to take revenge.
He knew Zheng Su was capable and dared not confront him directly. He had no money to hire others for vengeance, so he waited every day for an opportunity.
And today, when he secretly saw Mu Xue Chen book a room at this hotel, he found it rather suspicious.
He knew the hotel owner, Si Hai Pan, not intimately but well enough to understand his personality and preferences.
Pan was notoriously lustful—he couldn’t resist beautiful women. Although in his forties with considerable wealth, he indulged in pleasures and was willing to spend lavishly for them.
