Chapter 139: Not to Be Repeated
“Cough… President Chen, please stop teasing me. I was just talking nonsense; don’t take it to heart. Just think of it as me letting out a bad smell and forget about it!”
Sun Hong grew even more anxious when Chen Muxue kept bringing up the early morning call. He couldn’t think of anything else but that Chen Muxue wasn’t ready to forgive him easily.
“A bad smell? Hmph! Do you think I’m that easy to fool?”
Chen Muxue’s vigilance and confusion deepened. A displeased expression crossed her face. Her impression of Sun Hong was already at rock bottom, so naturally, she showed no kindness. “President Sun, you’d better explain yourself clearly, or please leave!”
“President Chen, please calm down, just hear me out.”
Sun Hong was terrified. If Chen Muxue kicked him out, it would mean no forgiveness. The thought of what might happen next terrified him beyond words.
He carefully chose his words and finally confessed with utmost humility:
“President Chen, your friend just called me personally, insisting that I come to seek your forgiveness. Otherwise, they would take action against me. I know I offended you before, and I sincerely ask for your pardon this time. From now on, I will wholeheartedly cooperate with your company’s operations!”
Sun Hong dared not hide anything but also refrained from revealing everything, worried about saying something he shouldn’t.
After all, it seemed Chen Muxue didn’t know anyone from the Li family. Perhaps the mysterious caller was a powerful figure who had just done her a favor. That wasn’t something he could casually disclose.
So, he spoke on behalf of Chen Muxue’s “friend.”
“You say… one of my friends called you? What’s their name?”
Chen Muxue furrowed her brows slightly, eyes wide with disbelief. She simply couldn’t think of any friend so powerful.
At that moment, her phone rang—it was Jin Wei from the company. She nodded to Sun Hong and answered.
Jin Wei sounded excited and somewhat emotional as she reported the company’s latest developments to Chen Muxue.
Her report matched Sun Hong’s words almost exactly: the Chamber of Commerce had withdrawn the order to suspend the investigation.
Sun Hong’s secretary had also resent the contract, and the prices for the medicinal materials were shockingly low, almost unbelievable to Jin Wei.
Several other suppliers had called as well, all eager to collaborate with Qincheng Technology!
Hearing Jin Wei’s report, Chen Muxue was overwhelmed with joy, tears of happiness welling in her eyes. She never imagined that the crisis that had pushed her to the brink of despair was resolved by a mysterious “friend.”
Nearby, Chen Jianguo and his wife, who had been silent, saw their daughter’s delighted expression after the call. They understood the company’s crisis had passed and wept tears of joy. Lv Hongmei wiped her tears, murmuring softly, “May the Bodhisattva bless us, may the Bodhisattva bless us…”
In the corner, Su Zheng’s lips curved into a faint smile. The coldness in his eyes when he looked at Sun Hong softened somewhat. This guy had handled the matter fairly well!
“See? President Chen, you have to believe me this time, right?!”
Sun Hong forced a wide smile, full of hope as he looked at Chen Muxue. “Please forgive me this once, President Chen. I promise from now on…”
“Wait, I still want to know—what’s the name of the person who called you?”
Chen Muxue scrutinized Sun Hong again, clearly eager to find out who had helped her.
“President Chen, you’re putting me on the spot. I wouldn’t dare ask such a powerful person for details. I truly don’t know.”
Sun Hong wore a tearful expression and explained helplessly in a low voice.
Seeing Chen Muxue still frowning, he couldn’t help but add, “Your friend should be quite familiar with the Li family from Qingyang. That’s all I know. Please don’t make it harder for me.”
Chen Muxue’s expression changed slightly. She instinctively glanced at Su Zheng in the distance.
“Su Zheng, could it have been you who made the call?” she asked with a questioning look.
She knew a little about Su Zheng’s past connections with the Li family.
“You think it was him? That’s impossible.”
Following Chen Muxue’s gaze, Sun Hong also looked at Su Zheng but revealed a hint of disdain upon hearing her question.
How could it be him?!
A person respected as an honored guest by the Li family would never dress like this. Besides, such a figure would never quietly stand aside—they would be surrounded by attendants, the center of attention wherever they went!
“Daughter, are you confused? At best, he’s only been lucky enough to visit the Li family and meet some members a few times. You really think he’s all-powerful?”
Chen Jianguo exaggeratedly analyzed the situation.
Su Zheng remained calm, meeting Chen Muxue’s gaze with a silent smile, offering no explanation.
In truth, Chen Muxue herself didn’t believe Su Zheng had that much influence. Perhaps because she desperately wanted to see Su Zheng succeed, she had let her imagination run wild.
Having thought this through, Chen Muxue stopped pressing further. Seeing Sun Hong’s expectant face waiting for her forgiveness, she said calmly:
“Don’t let this happen again. Our cooperation will remain in the observation phase for now. If you violate any terms of the contract in the future, I will immediately terminate our partnership!”
Seeing Sun Hong nodding eagerly, Chen Muxue continued:
“I’d like to review the contract again. How about we have lunch together and use that time to clarify the responsibilities in the contract?”
She didn’t want to be trapped by a ‘trap’ contract again, which would put her in a vulnerable position later.
“Rare to have an invitation from President Chen, I won’t refuse. I’ll book a restaurant right away!”
Sun Hong’s face was swollen, and smiling strained his nerves painfully, but inside he breathed a sigh of relief—a feeling of surviving a catastrophe.
Everyone present was in high spirits, and the atmosphere brightened.
Only Su Zheng’s expression darkened, his brows furrowing slightly.
“President Chen, who is this gentleman?”
Sun Hong finally noticed Su Zheng and asked with confusion, a trace of disdain flickering in his eyes.
“Heh… President Sun, don’t mind him. Shall we head out now? Muxue’s health has almost recovered. Su Zheng, go home and have lunch, do whatever you want this afternoon!”
Chen Jianguo quickly took over Sun Hong’s question, as if introducing Su Zheng would embarrass him, smiling as he changed the subject.
“Heh… true, I don’t like dining with strangers either. After all, it’s business—having outsiders around is inconvenient!”
Sun Hong’s disdain toward Su Zheng grew more obvious. He chuckled and turned to head toward the restaurant first.
Su Zheng’s expression turned cold. He took out his phone and sent Sun Hong a text: “Get out of here once this is done! Dinner? You’re not worthy!”
He was furious. Damn it, how dare this bastard look down on him? Was he looking for trouble?
