Chapter 123: The Power of the Void
Tony heard that he could try freely, but he also knew that choosing Renoli right away wasn’t the wisest choice.
While others were still fighting, Renoli was resting alone, clearly having defeated quite a few opponents.
Even knowing he might lose, Tony didn’t mind—it was just the price of a meal. What mattered most was enjoying himself.
But when it came to deciding a winner, Tony wasn’t one to give up easily.
Having been on Shandar Star for half a year, he evolved twice on average every week, and now he had evolved one hundred and twenty-four times.
He wasn’t entirely sure how powerful he had become.
When he first arrived on Shandar Star, he was a newcomer who needed to figure out how to earn money, so he threw himself into research wholeheartedly.
There was no time to seek out strong enemies or worthy opponents to gauge his own strength.
Now that his money-making efforts were gradually stabilizing, he rarely ventured out. Learning about this kind of competition, he simply had to test his own abilities—it would be a disservice to himself not to try.
So Tony tossed the ball and leapt high, striking it with about thirty percent of his strength.
With a loud “bang!” the volleyball swiftly sailed over the net, accurately smashing toward the area behind Renoli.
Renoli vanished from his spot in an instant, caught the ball, then jumped high and struck back with great force.
The volleyball erupted with an even fiercer assault, powered by tremendous energy.
When Tony caught the ball, he felt the impact and staggered backward three meters.
Fortunately, Renoli had aimed at Tony’s position, who stood near the center of the court, more than seven meters from the boundary.
Had Renoli targeted near the edge, Tony catching the ball might have caused him to step out of bounds and lose a point.
This made Tony glance toward the intense battle unfolding behind him between Lacey and Kyle—those two must have long been used to such exchanges.
“You can directly set and serve,” Renoli said after noticing Tony’s expression, “but I’ll give you some advice.”
“To win, the speed from reception to serve must be fast, the serve fierce, and the force strong.”
“Being able to precisely control your power is the key to victory—brute strength alone doesn’t guarantee a win.”
“Kyle struggled a lot with this at first and ended up buying many meals as a result.”
Seeing Tony’s thoughtful look, Renoli guessed what he was thinking and explained.
“Can I use tools?”
Tony asked thoughtfully upon hearing this.
“Although I’d really like to give you a proper match,” Renoli continued,
“This is fundamentally a recreational competitive sport. Since it’s a competition, fairness must be observed.”
“If you use auxiliary tools or supernatural powers, it defeats the purpose.”
“But there will be other sparring events in the future where I’d be willing to go all out with you.”
Renoli shook his head with a smile, and a spark of fighting spirit shone in his eyes as he spoke.
After seeing the stronger performance of Tony’s iron armor last time, he had been eager to spar with him.
Such a fight would be exhilarating, a true contest of skill, and would also give him valuable experience facing high-tech opponents. Unfortunately, now was not the time.
Tony nodded and tried several more times. He found that when he used about forty-five percent of his strength, the volleyball would burst.
“If I can’t use external power, then using some of my own strength should be allowed, right?” Tony said as he grasped the ball once more, having gained a rough understanding.
“Tony, if I remember correctly, you’re not a supernatural being, right?”
“Besides that armor, what other powers do you have?”
“Why not show me and let’s have a try?”
Renoli didn’t immediately deny it but spoke with interest.
“All right, then let me try again.”
Tony’s right hand clasped the volleyball, and a violet void energy began to swirl around it.
He had witnessed Harvey’s spatial teleportation ability, which Harvey said was a form of void magic.
So Tony had tried every means to harness some void energy. Though he still had no clue about void magic itself, his multiple evolutions had granted him more and more void energy.
He infused the volleyball with this energy, and under the purple aura, the ball looked like a magical orb burning with violet flames.
The purple glow instantly drew a crowd of onlookers.
“Where does that power come from?” Renoli’s gaze flickered as he looked at the volleyball in Tony’s hand.
“It comes from the void’s evolution,” Tony replied.
“I’m only using power derived from the void, so it shouldn’t be against the rules, right?”
“That’s allowed. In fact, it makes things more interesting.”
“It looks like the volleyball’s mass has increased and can withstand more force now,” Renoli said eagerly upon hearing it originated from the void.
The Void Cult primarily focused on strengthening their bodies and enhancing their senses.
Though they had seen godlike beings exhibiting terrifying powers while worshipping the void, none had any clue how to command such power.
Now Tony was demonstrating a change in energy, meaning they might also evolve to master this force.
With a new, unknown direction for evolution emerging, if they didn’t explore it, they could hardly claim to pursue evolution.
“Catch it,” Tony nodded and tossed the ball high into the air.
He leapt like an eagle ascending, and the violet energy enveloping the volleyball burst into a dazzling radiance.
Tony struck with full force, and with a thunderous “boom!” the ball, bearing the power, surged toward Renoli like a purple magical star.
The scene was spectacular—the purple volleyball streaked through the air, trailing a violet comet’s glow, carrying a terrifying impact as if it were about to crash onto the earth and obliterate everything beneath.
Seeing this, Renoli no longer dared to underestimate Tony. Within the fifteen-meter court, dozens of afterimages appeared instantly.
With his speed enhanced, Renoli summoned momentum to meet Tony’s magical ball head-on.
When the orb struck Renoli’s hands, a loud “bang!” resounded as the shockwave erupted.
The ground beneath Renoli cracked open a pit.
The fierce impact made it difficult for Renoli to raise his hands.
He growled lowly, and only after a ten-meter-wide, over one-meter-deep crater appeared in the ground did he manage to deflect the ball, catching it.
Everyone nearby widened their eyes in disbelief, having just heard the earlier conversation.
Tony’s shot was imbued with void energy—a power unheard of before.
Yet, after witnessing the sheer force, they all agreed that mastering void energy could grant them far greater strength.
