Wang Liang’s move was not abrupt. In fact, everyone present had already sensed the anomaly, and when he shouted, most of them turned toward the Demon Ridge at Jingyang Hill.

At that moment, a mountain-like figure was charging out from the ridge, followed by roughly fifteen hundred monsters with beast heads and human bodies.

All of those monsters were minor demons, their strength hovering around level fifteen and not quite reaching level twenty. They carried hunting spears, short blades, and weapons of that sort, and wore armor that looked like a mixture of beast hide and leaves.

Wang Liang did not think much of such petty demons. The minor demons in his own household, though they had not yet taken human form, were still above these creatures in average ability.

What truly caught Wang Liang’s attention was the mountain charging at the front.

It was an enormous wild boar. Even lying flat, it stood five meters tall, and from head to tail it stretched more than fifteen meters. Roughly a third of its body was head alone, and from the high ridge of its snout and along both sides of its mouth rose three rows of tusks as thick as a human arm.

The boar’s fur had already turned gray, and its body was smeared with layer upon layer of mud, sap, and other things.

Because the boar was so massive, the minor demons who had daubed it with those substances naturally had not bothered to apply them neatly. The mud on its hide looked thick in some places and thin in others.

Perhaps because they had been pressed for time, some of the mud was still damp, and in certain patches there were even traces of decayed corpses and crawling insects.

Yet the boar did not care. It drove the fifteen hundred minor demons forward with its head lowered, charging straight at the main line of the allied army from Yanggu County.

This boar was Mountain Whale, one of the Four Heavenly Kings under the Demon Tiger. Among the Four, he was the only one in beast form.

The reason was easy enough to understand. One look at Mountain Whale’s attributes made the matter plain.

Name: Wild Boar Mountain Whale, Third of the Four Heavenly Kings

Gender: Male

Profession: Monster

Level: 29, boss template

Attributes, naked: Strength: ???, Agility: ???, Constitution: 55+, Spirit: ???, State: Unknown

Talent: Charge

Skills: Berserk Charge, Level 4; Charge Uppercut, Level 2; Ram, Level 3...

Secondary Profession: None

Description: This is a wild boar as large as a mountain. Its weight and size are already comparable to the legendary whale, and so it is called Mountain Whale.

Anyone who looked at these attributes would understand at once that every one of Mountain Whale’s points had been poured into charging.

His greatest trait was simple: lower his head, flash his tusks, and rush forward. Every enemy standing in his path would be sent flying, trampled, and smashed to death.

Just imagine if Mountain Whale had taken human form. When he wanted to charge, he would have to lower his head; aside from catching sight of his own manhood, what else could he possibly see?

So Mountain Whale simply never bothered to transform. He kept his original form.

Thus, the instant he burst out of Demon Ridge, he dropped his head, bared six pairs of tusks, and began to charge madly.

When he charged, he was like a giant bulldozer, not caring at all whether there were allies in front of him. Anyone he hit was dead.

Seeing this, General Hua, who was directing the battle, hurriedly shouted, “Spread to the sides! Clear the road!”

At his command, all the auxiliary troops, ghost soldiers, and miscellaneous soldiers moved aside at once, trying to give Mountain Whale a path through the thinnest part of the formation.

Wang Liang blended into the crowd and moved left with the others.

He never expected, however, that Mountain Whale would actually notice him. The charging boar changed direction and rammed straight toward him.

Wang Liang had no idea what was going on, but his sense of danger was sharp. The moment he felt something was wrong, he turned and fled.

Yet no matter where he ran, Mountain Whale seemed dead set on him, pursuing him relentlessly.

Just then, Lu, the City God, who had hurried back, saw what was happening. He could not allow Wang Liang to die here.

“Hurry and save him!” he cried.

“Lord Lu, wait a moment. That fellow Daoist is cloaked in purple qi. It is probably for that reason that Mountain Whale has taken him for the strongest enemy. This is a good chance. Let that Daoist draw the boar away. Once Mountain Whale is gone, we can deal with those minor demons.”

“How is he supposed to draw it away? That’s Mountain Whale we’re talking about.”

“He just has to fly. These are three flying talismans. They can keep that Daoist airborne for three quarters of an hour. If he can hold the boar for that long, we can find a way to stabilize the situation.”

The abbot of Distant Mountain Temple spoke with obvious pain. Those three flying talismans were the treasure of their temple. Normally they would not even show them to outsiders, yet now all three had to be used here.

Lu City God glanced at Wang Liang again. The purple qi around Wang Liang had clearly grown even stronger, proof that his identity was anything but ordinary.

Should someone of such status be sent to take the risk? Lu City God hesitated.

“Lord Lu, this is not the time to hesitate.”

While they were speaking, Mountain Whale had already plunged into the battle line. Though its target was not the ordinary soldiers, its massive bulk still crushed many men to death beneath it.

Seeing this, Lu City God no longer hesitated. He gritted his teeth and flew to Wang Liang’s side.

Before Lu could even speak, Wang Liang had already swung himself onto the bronze warhorse.

“Fellow Daoist Lu,” he said, “has that stupid pig taken me for its main target?”

Lu City God had not expected such a reaction, but he still said, “That is correct, Fellow Daoist Duocai. We need you to hold Mountain Whale here. I have...”

“I knew it. No matter. With three thousand strands of purple qi around me, what have I got to fear? Come on then, you stupid pig!”

Before Lu City God had even reached him, Wang Liang had already understood the situation, and he also understood why he had been locked onto.

It was entirely because of his golden core trait.

Three thousand strands of purple qi, mastery of purple qi, the path of supreme momentum, automatic understanding of the road of forceful bearing, saintly grace in every motion, concentration of fortune, and treasured weapons drawn to him of their own accord.

Since he had chosen the path of three thousand strands of purple qi, he could not conceal his identity. He would naturally be easy to identify and easy to focus down.

Before charging, Mountain Whale had looked across the battlefield and immediately seen the purple qi enveloping Wang Liang in the sky. Thinking he was the commander of the whole field, it had locked onto him as its target.

Once Wang Liang understood this, he made up his mind. He would use the speed of the bronze warhorse to circle the battlefield.

So the boar was good at charging, was it? Then let him see just how fast it could charge.

Wang Liang snapped the reins and rode out with his head lowered, while behind him Lu City God stood there, anxious enough to shout.

I still haven’t given you the three flying talismans yet!
