The fire for cremating the corpses had not yet burned out when Wang Liang heard the prompt from the system.
Wang Liang had no intention of lingering here any longer; he immediately chose to exit the game.
In the next instant, his vision blurred, and all the scenes since he had entered the game flashed rapidly before his eyes.
From the moment he encountered the yellow sand bandits in the desert, to joining the party of the Nicolò and Matteo brothers, the skyborne assassin who descended from above, Marco who fell in the chaos, and the fate-weaving loom that was hacked free.
After escaping the battlefield, they made camp, only to be beset by attacks from the wind god wyvern, a stampede of dinosaurs, and a horde of raptors.
Finally, the dinosaur queen, Maisie Lockwood, emerged from the sands, slaughtering almost everyone in the camp with each step she took.
In the end, as the team faced near annihilation, Wang Liang slew Maisie Lockwood.
Everything concluded amid a great conflagration; Wang Liang even saw the billowing smoke draw in the nearby border guards, who dragged the fate-weaving loom, now too scorched to move, out from the flames.
By then, all the seals on the loom had been destroyed by the fire, and as it was dragged out, the loom began slowly producing new cloth.
The final image froze on this length of cloth, upon which some strange, unreadable characters appeared at first, followed by two lines in Chinese.
One line read "Niu Dali," already crossed out with a red thread.
The other line read "Lu Sheng."
...
Once the images faded into darkness, Wang Liang felt himself stabilizing. Looking up, he discovered that he was not in the grand plaza as before, but in a small black room.
The room was not actually small—over a hundred square meters—but with black walls on all sides, it was difficult to make out the surroundings.
At the center of the room was a massive chest, into which six keys were inserted.
“You’re out. Did you kill that boss?” Niu Xuangang’s voice sounded in Wang Liang’s ear. Wang Liang looked in the direction of the voice and saw that all those who had fallen in battle were now seated beside the chest, waiting for him.
Except for Wei Ban, who wore a deathly expression, the others all looked at him with anticipation.
“I killed her. I also picked up a few things—and in the end, I set the camp on fire.”
“Really? What did you bring back?” Wei Ban jumped up at once.
“Wei Ban,” Niu Xuangang shot him a glare before turning to Wang Liang. “Don’t mind him. In the game, anything you pick up is yours—no one can force you to hand things over. Of course, if there’s anything you don’t need, we can trade privately. Consider it a gesture for leading the team through the fight.”
Wang Liang hesitated at Niu Xuangang’s words, but finally asked, “Is it like this in other games too? Whoever picks something up gets to keep it?”
Niu Xuangang gave an awkward smile. “You may have noticed that you weren’t sent to the main plaza. That’s because we’re a fixed team, and this is our base. Even if we risk our lives, the loot at the end is always shared among us.”
With this explanation, Wang Liang understood.
He thought for a moment, then said seriously, “I could only get those items thanks to you all. Here’s my proposal: I got seven items guided by the light, and none have been appraised yet. I’ll keep two, and the rest you can divide up, with me sharing in the proceeds.”
Niu Xuangang’s face broke into a smile—he hadn’t expected Wang Liang to be so agreeable.
“Good, it’s settled then. Don’t worry, we’re fair people. If anything valuable turns up, we’ll pay you at market price—you won’t lose out.”
Wanting to make friends, Wang Liang took out the items from his backpack.
He started with the seven peculiar-looking objects.
At this, Zhao Gongming stepped forward to begin the appraisal.
After thinking it over, Wang Liang decided to empty his entire backpack, showing he had nothing to hide.
When everything was out, Zhao Gongming, in the midst of appraising, glanced over.
“So these are... I understand the gems and books, but why did you bring back so many spices? Is there something special among them?”
He moved to inspect the spices, but was stopped by the girl known as Crybaby.
“Hurry up and appraise! Stop fooling around!”
No sooner had she finished than Wei Ban dove into the pile of spices, rummaging frantically.
As he searched, he muttered, “Why isn’t it here? Why did you just bring back these worthless spices? Why didn’t you bring back the loom?”
His words left Wang Liang confused. What loom? Why should he have brought back the loom?
Fortunately, Niu Xuangang dragged Wei Ban away and then smiled at Wang Liang. “Don’t mind him. He’s always going on about his contributions to the team. Let him take a small loss for once. The appraisal will take a bit—this chest is waiting for you.”
Wang Liang approached the large chest, feeling a little hesitant.
“There’s no need to worry. We didn’t bring you here by force. Since you teamed up with us in the game and claimed victory, you were brought here to share in the rewards.”
With that, Wang Liang stepped forward and turned the last key.
As he did, the ground began to tremble, and the chest slowly opened. Six beams of golden light shot out, landing on each person.
Wang Liang’s vision brightened, and a series of notifications appeared before him.
