Chapter 114: The Decisive Battle at Wulong
Although Lin Hongbin looked down on Yang Lao and Liu Yingde’s methods, he had to admit that he found their approach somewhat strangely effective.
Zhang Pu understood that a person like Lin Hongbin could hardly grasp the subtle uses of magic, as he seemed to come from an entirely different world than cultivation.
Lin Hongbin revered the martial arts, having reached its pinnacle on Earth.
While some of Yang Lao and Liu Yingde’s minor spells appeared to block some of Wulong’s fierce attacks, those who tried to strike Wulong’s body—whether with cold weapons, hidden blades, or even gunfire—seemed utterly unable to harm him.
Zheng Lan, for instance, was armed with a gun, as were some of her bodyguards.
But when she saw that bullets could not penetrate Wulong’s body, which resembled an iron wall or fortress, her eyes went wide in disbelief. “Damn! How are we supposed to fight this?”
Meanwhile, Wulong showed no patience for her hesitation or attempts to devise a plan. After swiftly sweeping away two of Zheng Lan’s bodyguards, he unleashed a massive claw directly toward her.
Zheng Lan, once as formidable as any man, was utterly stunned in that instant, seemingly powerless.
As Zheng Lan faced imminent peril, Yang Lao suddenly bit his lip, spilling blood, and unleashed a spell—shimmering faintly like something from the cultivation world—directly at Wulong.
Wulong’s body paused midair for a moment, seemingly enraged by the attack, then surged forward with even greater ferocity.
Perhaps Yang Lao’s spell had ignited a fierce resolve within Wulong; this time, his assault was wild and overwhelming.
“Boom—”
“Yang Lao!” came a cry from Zheng Lan, filled with unbearable anguish.
Zhang Pu watched in astonishment as Wulong’s ferocity exceeded all his expectations. Without special magic, he thought, it would be nearly impossible to subdue this monstrous dragon today. His mind raced, desperately searching for a strategy to counter Wulong.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, Zhang Pu saw Yang Lao struck by Wulong’s giant claw, soaring through the air before plummeting like a broken kite—appearing gravely injured, if not dead.
“Crash—”
A sound echoed like thunder shaking the heavens.
Zhang Pu immediately saw the leader of the Obscure Team rise, wielding a ghost-headed blade, striking Wulong’s body.
“Hiss—”
A mournful cry rang out as a gash appeared on Wulong’s scales, blood and fragments scattering.
“Wulong is wounded!” someone watching from afar shouted excitedly.
For a moment, those hesitant to approach unleashed a barrage of hidden weapons and gunfire upon Wulong, as if beating a drowning dog.
Human morale surged instantly!
Zhang Pu observed that although the Obscure Team leader’s long-awaited strike had injured Wulong, he himself soon collapsed, exhausted.
This Wulong was truly formidable!
As Zhang Pu marveled, he saw Liu Yingde cast another spell, accompanied by others’ hidden weapons and bullets, and Wulong began showing signs of retreating toward the pool.
Now was the time—he could not allow Wulong to escape back to the pool, where it held the advantage.
Zhang Pu knew that if the battle moved into the deep pool, subduing Wulong would be far more uncertain, and those who pursued him there would face grave danger.
“Wretched beast, where do you think you’re going?” Zhang Pu suddenly shouted, then, to the astonishment of many, soared upward like riding the clouds.
At that moment, Liu Yingde’s eyes sparkled: Zhang Pu was about to amaze them once again!
Wulong’s escape was instantly blocked by Zhang Pu, who now appeared almost like an immortal.
Perhaps Wulong had suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of some celestial being in the past—who could say?
What Wulong did not realize was that Zhang Pu’s eyes seemed to peer straight into its body, and Zhang Pu’s expression brightened with excitement upon seeing a glowing jade belt within.
That was it! Zhang Pu’s heart screamed in triumph.
This jade belt was precisely the essence he had envisioned during meditation, the very essence he had melded into the steel rod purchased at the auction, finally forging it into a magical artifact of the cultivation world.
This jade belt—Zhang Pu was determined to claim it!
He thought: Perhaps this was the core essence of Wulong’s power?!
Although Zhang Pu possessed strength comparable to Earth’s top martial arts masters, he felt that defeating Wulong would still prove extremely difficult.
Fortunately, Wulong now seemed drained after the collective assault.
Its morale was at its lowest ebb, while Zhang Pu’s spirit rose like the dawn.
The group had only arrived at the Poison Dragon Pool that afternoon, and now, after battling Wulong, night had fallen. Yet the night was bright with moonlight.
Facing Wulong, Zhang Pu dared not be complacent and immediately unleashed his long-practiced primary technique—the Sun and Moon Art.
The Sun and Moon Art was an advanced light-elemental spiritual technique from the celestial realm, and in a place as spiritually barren as Earth, it could harness the energy of sunlight and moonlight to achieve remarkable efficiency. This was why Zhang Pu chose it as his main cultivation method on Earth.
Moreover, he recognized that the night’s moon would provide additional support.
Wulong, wanting to retreat to its lair and rest within the pool—waiting to counterattack the hateful humans—did not expect its escape route to be cut off by a seemingly extraordinary human.
At that moment, Zhang Pu appeared to everyone watching as an immortal soaring through the clouds.
But in Wulong’s eyes, Zhang Pu was something else entirely: hovering in midair, holding what looked like a glowing orb that resembled the moon above the Poison Dragon Pool.
Yet it was not truly the moon, for the moon’s light was cold and distant, while this orb radiated warmth.
Indeed, Zhang Pu had infused the Sun and Moon Art with fire-elemental spiritual power.
Fire was precisely the element this long-dwelling, cold, deep-pool dragon feared most.
Impatient, Wulong tried to force its way through, but Zhang Pu feared prolonging the fight.
Gathering all his power, Zhang Pu resolved to capture Wulong in a single decisive strike—for the sake of the jade belt, the essence within its body.
“Go—”
Suddenly, Zhang Pu hurled the glowing orb he had conjured directly at Wulong.
As the orb cleared the way, Zhang Pu swiftly followed, riding the wind.
When the orb exploded upon Wulong’s body, Zhang Pu struck fiercely at its head with both hands.
