Chapter 89: This Girl Looks Truly Sturdy
Kong Hongyi glanced at Xuanxuan in her princess dress and felt a little awkward. It did not matter much for his own boy, but he was afraid this little girl might burst into tears.
Xuanxuan did not mind at all. She often looked just like this when she was absorbed in her studies. Kong Shao was nowhere near as cute as her father, so she simply held out her arms.
Wanqilianghao handed Xuanxuan over.
Kong Hongyi was a little embarrassed. He wiped his hands on his clothes a few times before taking her, bouncing her gently in his arms and smiling. "This little girl is really sturdy."
Wanqilianghao's face darkened. Was that any way to describe a girl?
He felt Kong Hongyi had come out only to stir up trouble. The man had said one sentence to each person and offended three people in just three lines.
Xuanxuan, however, did not think it sounded unpleasant.
Kong Shao grinned. So he was not the only one who thought the girl was a little chubby.
Kong Hongyi did not notice a thing. After holding her for a moment, he handed Xuanxuan back. "Since you're here, I have something to discuss with your family. Let's go to the sitting room."
He had just received a report from below: the true consequences of energy stones on the insect race had finally come to light, and only then did he realize how severe the matter was. No matter how formidable the Kong family was, no matter how advanced the mecha they produced, they were still only a commercial family. Originally, he had planned to wait until after the New Year and send Kong Shao to the Zhan family. Since the Wanqi family was here now, he did not mind including them as well.
He did not trust the others in the military, but he did trust the Zhan family and the Wanqi family.
When Wanqilianghao saw Kong Hongyi wearing such a solemn expression, he knew it must be no trivial matter and nodded. "All right."
But Xuanxuan was not having it. She had finally seen a real mecha, and she had not even had a chance to touch it before being told to leave. Absolutely not. "I'm not leaving."
Wanqilianghao froze. Not leaving? Then what was she staying for? He looked around but saw nothing that might attract Xuanxuan. "Dad's going to the sitting room."
"Okay." Xuanxuan nodded. She would stay here by herself.
Wanqilianghao winced. Why did he feel that, in his daughter's heart, he was not even as valuable as jerky anymore? Now she even ranked below a mecha repair room?
"There isn't anything fun here. Come to the sitting room, and I'll find you some toys," Kong Shao coaxed, stepping forward.
Xuanxuan turned her face away. She was not like him. Childish. Toys, indeed.
"Then let her play here. What is there to be afraid of with a child? There's a reception room over there. We'll go there; it's only a wall away." Kong Hongyi liked it when others loved mecha, and the more he looked at Xuanxuan, the more pleasing she seemed.
Seeing Xuanxuan nodding eagerly, Wanqilianghao helplessly set her down and warned, "Don't run around. And don't do anything bad."
What did he mean by bad things? Xuanxuan did not like hearing that at all. But judging by the way her father looked, if she did not agree, he would not leave her here alone. She nodded with great reluctance.
Only then did Wanqilianghao follow Kong Hongyi into the adjacent reception room.
As soon as Xuanxuan saw her father leave, her eyes lit up at the sight of Kong Shao's mecha, Brilliant Sun. She had long been coveting Kong Shao's mecha, only never having the chance to take it apart and inspect it. Now at last she could study it properly.
She glanced at her own height, and at her short, plump little arms and legs, and felt a little helpless.
She cast a Light Body spell on herself, then added a Levitation spell, and floated lightly up onto the frame before slipping inside. The mecha had already been partially dismantled, so Xuanxuan began to investigate on her own. On the Star Network, she had dismantled many ordinary military mecha already, but this one was on a completely different level.
Xuanxuan busied herself from top to bottom with delighted concentration, while the reception room outside grew heavy and solemn.
Kong Shao told Wanqilianghao everything Xuanxuan had said on the Star Network about energy stones.
Wanqilianghao remained silent for a long while before saying, still somewhat disbelieving, "Has it been confirmed?"
Kong Shao glanced at his old man. It must have been confirmed, or else his father would never have let him tell Wanqilianghao about it.
Seeing both men looking at him, Kong Hongyi nodded with some helplessness. "Unbelievable as it is, it's true. We haven't yet discovered whether it can cause mutation, but its ability to increase power and promote reproduction has already been confirmed."
No matter how shocked Wanqilianghao was, he could not question Kong Hongyi. With Kong Hongyi's position, he fully understood how important this matter was.
Wanqilianghao could no longer sit still. He had to tell his father as quickly as possible.
Then something occurred to him, and he looked at Kong Shao. If this potion was developed only by the Wanqi family and the Zhan family, progress would still be slow. The potion's effects were immense. If it could truly be developed, it would become one of the greatest trump cards against the insect race.
"I have a partnership proposal."
Kong Hongyi was taken aback. At a time like this, shouldn't Wanqilianghao be hurrying home to inform his father and begin an investigation?
"What kind of partnership?"
"Does Uncle Kong know about the Volcano Potion, and about the potion auctioned this time by the Ten Thousand Treasures Pavilion?" Wanqilianghao asked.
Before Kong Hongyi could answer, Kong Shao exclaimed in surprise, "Eh? You know Xuanxuan too?"
Wanqilianghao froze. Xuanxuan? Of course he knew his daughter. "You mean?"
"A girl on the Star Network who shares your daughter's name. She can refine all kinds of potions," Kong Shao said.
Xuanxuan? No wonder she had not wanted to say her name. Was it because it matched her disciple's? Wanqilianghao thought he understood at once. Since Xuanxuan's teacher knew Zhan Yu, she would naturally be familiar with Kong Shao as well, and she should not object to cooperating with the Kong family.
"She's Xuanxuan's teacher."
"The master and disciple have the same name?" Kong Shao was stunned. The girl actually had a disciple, and it was the little chubby one.
"Who is this teacher of Xuanxuan you're talking about?" Kong Hongyi asked.
Kong Shao shook his head. "We don't know who she is in real life. We've only seen her appearance online. No, not even that exactly. She always wears a white veil. My recent progress in my abilities and spiritual power is all thanks to a set of cultivation methods she gave me. She can also make all kinds of potions with miraculous effects, though the taste is often rather strange. And the matter of the energy stones and the insect race was also something she told us."
A trace of gravity flickered in Kong Hongyi's eyes. If it were anything else, it would be one thing, but a cultivation method could affect a person's entire life. It could not be used carelessly. For progress to be so rapid, Kong Hongyi barked, "Why didn't you ask me before using it? Were there any side effects?"
Kong Shao shrank his neck. He had not thought that far. Mainly, Xuanxuan's expression had been far too earnest, making it impossible to think she might be lying.
When Wanqilianghao saw that Kong Hongyi was about to lecture Kong Shao, he said, "Uncle Kong, if it's this matter, you needn't worry. Everyone in our family uses the cultivation methods she gave us."
Kong Hongyi frowned. "Your father has gone senile. Even if they are excellent cultivation methods, each of you has a different attribute."
"But she gave each person a different type, separately. Even dual-cultivation abilities have their own specific cultivation methods," Wanqilianghao said with a wry smile. If this had not happened to him personally, he would not have believed it either.
Kong Hongyi drew in a sharp breath. "What a lavish gesture."
Spreading his hands, Wanqilianghao said, "We've investigated and tested these cultivation methods ourselves. They have absolutely no aftereffects. And the gift she gave Xuanxuan as a disciple was what truly shocked us."
Anything that girl did that was unusual and astonishing did not surprise Kong Shao in the least. That was perfectly normal. If she ever stopped shocking people, that would be the strange thing.
Still, he was curious. What had Xuanxuan produced? "What was it?"
"The real version of the Magic Potion," Wanqilianghao said. He looked at the two men beside him and went on, "And two bottles of something called Life Potion, which made my mother and father years younger in an instant."
Kong Shao almost drooled. There was such a wonderful potion? He wanted a few bottles from the girl too.
Kong Hongyi was shocked as well, but this was, after all, someone else's private affair. He asked Wanqilianghao, "So what is the partnership you mentioned?"
"Potions," Wanqilianghao said. "A partnership to develop potions together. I've already arranged for people to study under Xuanxuan's teacher. This potion can be made in reality."
"I can arrange for your people to go learn as well, and for members of the Zhan family too." Wanqilianghao continued, "After they learn it, the three of our families can jointly develop potions in the real world. And as far as I know, she has a great many types of potions in her hands. I believe Young Master Kong understands this point."
Kong Hongyi glanced at Kong Shao. Kong Shao nodded. "Yes, she has many kinds of potions. There are only things you can't think of, not things she can't make."
Kong Hongyi was astonished. With so many functions, he would really like to meet the Xuanxuan on the Star Network.
Wanqilianghao seemed afraid Kong Hongyi might hesitate, and added, "Old Master Ji has also entered the laboratory to study under Xuanxuan's teacher."
"Which Old Master Ji?" Kong Shao asked.
"How many in the Federation dare to be called Old Master Ji?" Wanqilianghao countered.
Kong Shao's eyes went wide. The girl had really become formidable, to have even taken Old Master Ji as her disciple.
"And the reason?" Kong Hongyi could not agree to such a thing casually.
"Just as you told me about the insect race, we are all human beings," Wanqilianghao said solemnly.
Kong Hongyi nodded, stood up, and patted Wanqilianghao's shoulder. "Wanqiyi has raised a good son."
Wanqilianghao did not dare accept the praise and rose as well.
Kong Hongyi glared at his own son. "This matter will be your responsibility. You don't need to come repair mecha for the time being. Learn properly from Little Three."
Little Three.
The corner of Wanqilianghao's mouth twitched again.
Kong Shao hurriedly nodded, almost jumping with delight. Not having to repair mecha was simply a blessing from the heavens. His gaze toward Wanqilianghao was practically burning now. In his eyes, Wanqilianghao was nothing less than his benefactor.
Still, he was growing more and more certain that on the day of Wanqiyi's birthday, he must have drunk the girl's antidote potion.
Seeing Kong Shao nod, Kong Hongyi walked straight out of the reception room. "You still need to go to the Zhan family? Then..."
Before he could finish, Kong Hongyi froze at the doorway, standing there like a wooden post.
