Chapter 51: Then Call Me Mother
After Jiang Sui finished answering all those questions, Bai Xixue was taken aback for a moment. She quickly forced a smile to cover her embarrassment. “It seems you really know a lot, Sister Jiang Sui. My fans are just really curious, don’t mind them.”
Jiang Sui raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a faint smile. “Sister, if I remember correctly, you’re older than I am. I’d be embarrassed to let you call me ‘sister.’”
The livestream chat exploded:
[Our Xuexue is only twenty-five! So what if she calls you ‘sister’? Who says you have to be older to be called that?]
[Exactly! Xuexue just respects her elders, don’t you get it?]
[Twenty-five, and her kid is already seven? That’s pretty early, huh? And she still has the gall to say it out loud.]
[Where does she get such thick skin? She should be sewing shoe soles, not bothering our Jiang Sui. Sui Sui doesn’t have such an old younger sister.]
Bai Xixue kept up her persona. “Oh, what does it matter? There’s no rule saying only the older one gets called ‘sister.’ You’re so old-fashioned.”
Jiang Sui replied, “If that’s the case, why don’t you call me ‘Mom’ instead?”
The smile on Bai Xixue’s face froze.
The chat burst into laughter.
[Hahahaha then just call her Mom, Xuexue!]
[Absolutely hilarious—Sui Sui’s comeback is unbeatable!]
[Is Bai Xixue enjoying the taste of her own medicine?]
[Oh dear, Bai Xixue looks like she’s about to turn green. Isn’t she always acting chill and indifferent? What’s the matter now?]
Bai Xixue abruptly ended the call, not saying another word to Jiang Sui. She went back to reading her novel.
It wasn’t until her son, Ji Chuan, came out to wait on her, buying her milk tea and snacks, that there was any change. Even when her manager called to remind her to look at the script, she blatantly refused on camera, announcing that she was enjoying her rare downtime. As for the script—what was that?
Though her attitude caused a lot of controversy, it also cemented her reputation for a carefree, lackadaisical approach to life.
Meanwhile, Jiang Sui went about her own business at home. She tutored Xuanxuan with her homework at the proper time and made sure she went to bed when she should. After Xuanxuan finished reciting poetry, she’d receive an exclusive treat from her Mommy Jiang Sui as a reward.
But Xuanxuan wasn’t always obedient. Sometimes Jiang Sui had to raise her voice.
“Lu Xuanxuan! I’m going to count to three! One!”
Usually, before Jiang Sui could even say “two,” Lu Xuanxuan would appear before her, pitiful as a drenched kitten.
“Do you expect someone else to do your chores for you?” Jiang Sui scolded her.
This little girl had finished playing with her toys and left them scattered all over the living room.
Lu Xuanxuan muttered in a small, aggrieved voice, “Xuanxuan knows she was wrong. Next time, I’ll put everything away. I won’t be lazy like Ji Chuan and his mom.”
Jiang Sui nodded. “As long as you know. You need to take care of your own things, understand? At home, you still have the housekeeper to help you, but what about when you’re somewhere else?”
Xuanxuan pouted. “Then I’d end up just like Ji Chuan’s mom—annoying…”
This exchange had everyone in the chat laughing.
[No one escapes from Mom’s ‘one, two, three’ rule!]
[Xuanxuan’s mix of timidity and sassiness is just too adorable!]
[Mommy Jiang Sui has Xuanxuan totally under control. Poor Xuanxuan, suffering in silence.]
[Is Xuanxuan using the family next door as a cautionary tale?]
[Exactly—lazy and greedy. I’ve wanted to say this for ages! Even the kids see it. How can those fans still support them? They're setting a terrible example for today’s youth!]
[Seriously, when did Bai Xixue’s childish antics become the norm?]
Seeing all these negative comments left Bai Xixue both aggrieved and furious. So when Ji Chuan messed up making dinner and the chat started to insult her again, she finally lost her temper and scolded Ji Chuan out loud.
