Chapter 32: He Is Still Here
Lu Ye continued calmly, “However, since you’re so determined to get divorced, I won’t force you. I’ll keep the divorce agreement. If you still haven’t changed your mind within a month, I’ll sign it and we’ll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau together.”
“The cooling-off period for divorce?” Jiang Sui vaguely recalled that such a thing existed nowadays.
Lu Ye nodded. “Even if we wanted to proceed immediately, it can’t be finalized right away.”
Since Lu Ye had made himself clear, Jiang Sui didn’t press further.
She managed a small, embarrassed smile. “Sorry, I lost my composure just now. Let’s do as you say.”
Lu Ye’s gaze fixed on her, clear and deep as jade, with a glimmer of distant stars in his eyes.
Any woman under such a gaze would likely find her heart racing and her cheeks flushing.
But Jiang Sui was immune.
After their conversation, Jiang Sui returned to her room, leaving Lu Ye alone on the living room sofa.
He watched her figure disappear at the top of the stairs before finally shifting his attention to the divorce agreement on the coffee table.
Once back in her room, Jiang Sui received a message from her lawyer, letting her know the contract dispute with Tina had been resolved.
Tina had agreed readily—understandably, since apart from her looks, Jiang Sui had little else to offer, and could no longer bring Tina any benefits.
In Tina’s eyes, Jiang Sui was hopeless—someone who would never amount to anything.
Still, Jiang Sui could afford the breach of contract penalty. Over the past year, Lu Ye had transferred her quite a bit of money—though it was nearly spent by now.
But what remained would be enough to compensate Tina.
It just meant she’d be broke afterward.
However, she’d requested two million as compensation for her lost youth in the divorce agreement.
For a wife to walk away from marriage without claiming any of her husband’s property was already generous.
When Jiang Sui woke from her nap and started preparing dinner, she was surprised to find Lu Ye was still there.
In the past, he’d always be gone before long.
She stepped into the kitchen.
Lu Xuanxuan appeared as well and, upon seeing Lu Ye still there, immediately went to sit beside him in the living room.
When Jiang Sui carried the dishes out, she saw Lu Xuanxuan seated next to Lu Ye, watching a shoujo anime on TV.
Lu Ye, meanwhile, was looking at something on his tablet, apparently reviewing some documents.
“Ahem! Dinner’s ready,” she called.
She hadn’t intended to cook for Lu Ye, but on the off chance he didn’t leave, it would have been awkward. So she’d made an extra serving.
“Coming! Wow, vegetable omelets!” Lu Xuanxuan dashed eagerly to the dining table.
Lu Ye looked at Jiang Sui in mild surprise as she set the food on the table.
It was hard to believe such fragrant dishes had been made by her hands.
He remembered last time he was home, she’d been ordering takeout.
Without glancing at Lu Ye, Jiang Sui sat down first. “Mr. Lu, if you’d like to dine here, please help yourself.”
Lu Ye rose, his long strides carrying him to the kitchen.
When he sat down opposite Jiang Sui, she felt as if the very light in front of her had dimmed.
How unreserved of him.
“There’s a housekeeper—why not let her cook?” His voice remained gentle.
Jiang Sui ate without looking up. “I have nothing better to do anyway.”
Lu Ye asked, “What are your plans, then?”
Jiang Sui replied, “I’ll do whatever needs to be done.”
He picked up his chopsticks, eyeing the dishes before him. He’d seen her cook during livestreams, but still had his doubts.
How could Jiang Sui possibly know how to cook?
Yet seeing the spread before him, his suspicions faded.
“Are you sure you don’t need my help?” he asked warmly.
Jiang Sui lifted her eyelids, only then realizing that Lu Ye’s gaze had been fixed on her all this time.
