Chapter 29: Your Father Is Having an Affair
So even though the production team tried to do damage control, it didn’t have much impact on Jiang Sui. Meanwhile, Bai Xixue’s negative trending topics kept resurfacing no matter how hard they tried to suppress them.
But at this moment, Ji Sicheng had vanished from the public eye. Even though his identity as the powerful CEO had been exposed, few press releases mentioned him anymore.
However, Jiang Sui’s supporters weren’t about to let him off so easily. As soon as their posts were taken down, new ones would pop up in their place.
She was scrolling through them with relish when Lu Ye called again.
“Sorry, something urgent came up earlier, so I didn’t catch the livestream. How are you and Xuanxuan now?” For once, Lu Ye’s voice held a rare note of apology. “I’ve already had people start handling things.”
But Jiang Sui, knowing she wanted a divorce, was careful not to get too entangled with this man.
“It’s fine, it wasn’t really your problem. I can handle my own issues. Besides, we agreed to keep our lives separate—there’s no need for you to worry.”
Lu Ye’s brow furrowed slightly at her words, and he said coolly, “But this concerns Xuanxuan.”
Jiang Sui gave a nonchalant “Oh,” and added, “That’s true.”
She knew perfectly well he wouldn’t help for her sake alone.
She glanced over at Xuanxuan. “Xuanxuan’s playing with her Lego right now. She’s fine—her injuries have almost healed.”
“I’ll come home today,” came his deep, gentle, yet distant voice.
Jiang Sui nodded, “Alright. That’s perfect, actually—I wanted to discuss the divorce with you. You’d better bring your lawyer.”
“Divorce?”
Even Lu Xuanxuan, upon hearing those words, turned immediately to look at Jiang Sui, blinking her eyes in surprise.
“Mhm. We’ll talk about it when you’re back.” Noticing Xuanxuan’s gaze, Jiang Sui hung up the phone.
Lu Xuanxuan stared at her and asked in a clear, childish voice, “Jiang Sui Mommy, are you really going to divorce Dad?”
Jiang Sui smiled, “Yes, that’s right. Why?”
Xuanxuan had once wanted to drive her out of the Lu family, and though their relationship had softened a little, she shouldn’t have felt too much about it.
But Jiang Sui didn’t expect to see Xuanxuan’s eyes suddenly turn red.
Tears welled up, threatening to spill, making her look utterly pitiful.
“Why?!” Xuanxuan abandoned her Lego altogether, angrily pushing it over, her eyes red and fixed on Jiang Sui in grievance. “Is it because you don’t like me? That’s why you want to divorce Dad!”
Jiang Sui hadn’t expected such a strong reaction.
She walked over, crouched down to comfort her. “Silly girl, don’t say that. Of course it’s not because I don’t like you—it’s just that…”
She improvised, “It’s just that Mommy Jiang Sui has someone else she likes now, and I want to go pursue my own happiness.”
Xuanxuan’s eyes filled with even more tears. “But what about Dad and me?!”
Jiang Sui cleared her throat, “Well, your dad… he has someone he likes, too. As for you, even if your dad and I get divorced, I’ll still be your Jiang Sui Mommy.”
Xuanxuan sobbed, “Isn’t Dad the one you like?”
“Of course not,” Jiang Sui fibbed. “Xuanxuan is a good, kind girl, right? Now that Mommy wants to chase after someone she likes, good children shouldn’t stand in the way, okay?”
As if she really had someone she liked.
But children are easy to fool—any excuse would do.
Xuanxuan looked at her through teary eyes for a long while. “If I don’t stop you, does that mean you won’t divorce?”
Jiang Sui: “…”
So, while children are easy to fool, they don’t always listen.
