Chapter 159: Interrupting His Wife’s Career Pursuits
Lu Ye glanced at the reply from the Lu family on his phone, his expression remaining impassive.
That the old man disliked Jiang Sui was entirely within his expectations. Naturally, as far as he was concerned, the old man’s approval was of no consequence.
In truth, the Lu family consisted of more than just him and his older brother; there was also a younger sister. However, she was far more rebellious. Due to the old man’s rigid discipline and stubborn mindset, she had run away from home at a young age. She had remained abroad ever since, and had not returned even once, not even after getting married. His older brother, too, had chosen to leave the Lu family due to an arranged marriage forced upon him back then. He had passed away without ever seeing the old man again.
The Lu family was filled with regrets, but since everyone had principles they refused to compromise on, no one would yield.
He lowered his gaze and continued flipping through the documents in his hands. The papers currently before him detailed the distribution of the Ji family’s assets. Every industry the Ji family was involved in had been meticulously listed. He turned the pages one by one. Occasionally, he would come across a page containing past negative press or potential regulatory violations associated with a particular asset. When he reached a certain entry, his lips curled slightly, and he handed the page to Xie Yuan.
"Go investigate this."
Xie Yuan nodded. "Understood."
Among these documents were many illicit activities of the Ji family that had been swept under the rug. Without concrete evidence, and given the Ji family’s vast connections, everything had been successfully buried. Although these matters had been "harmonized" away, digging them back up would be a persistent thorn in the Ji family’s side.
He had already assigned people to investigate the Ji family, but their methods were highly sophisticated. With recent events already putting them on edge, they would only be more vigilant. Therefore, he had to give them something else to worry about—if only to keep them from bothering his wife while she focused on her career. If she had less to deal with, she would be able to come home more often.
With that thought in mind, Lu Ye pored over the documents with even greater focus.

At the Ji residence.
"Didn't you say everything was handled by PR? I haven't done anything, so why are these people still attacking me?" Bai Xixue threw a tantrum at Ji Sichen, aggrieved. "Didn't you promise that you would handle everything if I joined the entertainment industry? Now look at this—my role as the third lead has been snatched away! You’re a liar!"
Ji Sichen endured her outburst, coaxing her helplessly, "Xue'er, you know how busy things have been at the company lately. Plus, the atmosphere in the entertainment industry is very tense right now; any negative news would be detrimental to us." He darkened his gaze. "Things are different now compared to before. I can't help but feel that someone is targeting our company."
In the past, he could easily manage public relations, but now it was impossible. Someone was constantly working against him, and even throwing money at the problems couldn't suppress them.
Bai Xixue frowned, looking completely displeased. "Didn't you say you could do anything? You promised that you and our son would never suffer again. What is going on now?"
Ji Sichen tugged at his tie in irritation, but still maintained his patience to soothe her. "Once this period of scrutiny passes, I will clear away anyone who stands in your path."
Lately, Ji Sichen had been feeling increasingly restless. He hadn't noticed it before, but since the company’s troubles began, Xue'er would call him incessantly, regardless of the occasion, to flaunt their affection. While he was buried in chaos, she would only ask him day after day if he loved her, or demand that he handle her trivial entertainment industry affairs.
He used to find it sweet, but now he increasingly felt she was being unreasonable. Sometimes, he even felt a flicker of annoyance. But he quickly suppressed the thought.
How could he possibly think such things?
