Chapter 149: Is This the Start of a Romantic Obsession?
Jiang Sui was momentarily stunned.
Who on earth was she supposedly keeping in her house?
So, Lu Ye thought she was keeping someone at that other apartment? Come to think of it, that wasn't entirely wrong. It just wasn't a person she was keeping, but a cat.
"How did you know?" she asked, suspicious as the realization hit her.
Could Lu Ye have had people tracking her?
Lu Ye looked at her and said slowly, "The apartment you bought is part of our family's real estate holdings."
Jiang Sui: "..."
So the money she spent on the apartment went to waste? Oh... no wonder Lu Ye had suddenly transferred money to her.
"Since you knew I bought one of your own properties, why didn't you know what kind of person I was keeping there?" Jiang Sui suddenly felt a mischievous urge to tease him.
Lu Ye’s gaze flickered. He lowered his eyes, his brow furrowing slightly. "I didn't want to look."
The four short words held no explicit complaint, yet each syllable was heavy with hidden grievance.
This reaction caught Jiang Sui off guard. She feared he might follow up with, "I’m afraid they are better than me, better at making you happy, and understand you better than I do..."
No, no, no, how could Lu Ye ever say something like that? She shook the thought from her mind.
Before her sat Lu Ye, a mature man, six-foot-two, refined and handsome, carrying an air of nobility. With his head bowed and his gently arched, slightly sharp brows knitted together, he looked exactly like a large dog with its ears drooping.
It made Jiang Sui feel as though she had bullied him mercilessly.
She gave a small cough. "Well... actually, she is indeed younger than you."
Lu Ye: "..." His expression cooled visibly.
"Is that so?" he asked in a low voice.
Jiang Sui: ...Why did his tone sound so different from before?
"Yes, she's quite young. I'm the one paying her salary, and I'm the one letting her stay in the apartment..." As she spoke, she slowed down, noticing that Lu Ye’s hand on the table was gradually clenching into a fist. Veins stood out, and his knuckles turned white.
Jiang Sui swallowed hard.
"That child is a new assistant I hired recently, named Miaomiao. She didn't have a place to stay, and my apartment was empty anyway, so I let her live there. Come to think of it, you could say I'm keeping her, so you weren't wrong. But it's not a secret lover; it's just a young girl. She's quite cute, just a bit young."
Jiang Sui decided to stop teasing him, fearing she might crash and burn if she kept going. Based on her extensive survival instincts, she could already sense the danger.
Lu Ye’s hand slowly relaxed, and his tense features softened instantly. The entire aura around him shifted.
"So that's how it is." The corners of his lips quirked upward.
Jiang Sui: "..."
Wait, wasn't he even a little bit embarrassed?
"There are several other vacant units in that complex," Lu Ye said slowly, his demeanor returning to normal. He smiled, seeming to be in a very good mood. "I misunderstood the situation. My people didn't explain it clearly when they reported it to me. This won't happen again."
Jiang Sui felt like something was off.
At first, Lu Ye thought she was cheating on him, right? And he was willing to... overlook it? Now that he knew it was a misunderstanding, not only was he not embarrassed, but he was actually happy?
"Lu Ye."
His gaze was fixed directly on her. That intense, captivating stare was hard for anyone to resist. Even though he was a man nearing thirty, his eyes were clear and bright.
"Yes?" he asked.
Jiang Sui: "Do you feel like your scalp has been a bit itchy lately?"
Lu Ye pondered for a moment and nodded slightly. "A little, yes."
Jiang Sui: Oh no...
Is he really developing a 'love-struck' brain?
