Chapter 147: Your Father's People Came to See Me

"What did you say?" Jiang Sui’s voice rose slightly.

However, because her voice was naturally melodious, the increase in volume did not sound grating to the ear.

Uncle Chi remained silent for two seconds. "We want to bring Xuanxuan back, but the Second Young Master refuses. We heard that Miss Jiang has been taking care of Xuanxuan recently, so we were hoping Miss Jiang could help us with this."

Jiang Sui suddenly laughed, her smile laced with irony.

Her oversized sunglasses hid her eyes, but one could still sense the displeasure behind them.

"You may have misunderstood one thing," Jiang Sui said, a smile still playing on her lips. "Since I am the one taking care of Xuanxuan, the decision rests with me. Even if Lu Ye is Xuanxuan’s uncle, he cannot decide whether she stays or goes. So, instead of asking me to talk to Lu Ye, you would be better off begging me."

To Uncle Chi, Jiang Sui’s words sounded arrogant and overbearing, like those of an unreasonable woman. Yet, upon closer inspection, they did not seem entirely irrational. He had made inquiries and confirmed that Xuanxuan was indeed closer to Jiang Sui now. However, as a member of the Lu family, he had never been spoken to in such a tone, and his expression darkened.

"First, Xuanxuan does not want to return to your Lu family."

"Second, I don’t believe you are capable of raising her well."

"Third, you ignored her completely back then, and now you just show up and say you want to take her back? What do you take her for?"

"Since your Old Master Lu didn't even accept Xuanxuan’s parents, won't she face discrimination upon returning to the Lu family? Won't she be looked down upon by others?"

Jiang Sui sneered. "Has he fulfilled his responsibilities as a grandfather? Why come looking for his granddaughter now? If he wants to be a grandfather so badly, why not go to an orphanage and adopt one? Or better yet, adopt seven! Wouldn't it be wonderful to have them calling him 'Grandpa' every single day?"

Uncle Chi: "..."

"Miss Jiang, please remember your place. I do not believe you have the time or the capacity to raise Miss Xuanxuan properly," Uncle Chi said in a deep voice.

Jiang Sui retorted, "And you do? So that when Xuanxuan grows up, you can send her off for a political marriage?"

Uncle Chi: "..." He had no idea this Miss Jiang would be so difficult to deal with.

Jiang Sui stood up. "That’s enough. My schedule is packed. If Xuanxuan wants to go back with you, then consider what I just said as unsaid. But if she doesn't want to, don't blame me for causing a scene if any of you try to take her away."

Before leaving, Jiang Sui looked at Uncle Chi and added in a cold, indifferent tone, "When you decided you wanted to take her, did you actually consider the child’s feelings? It’s no wonder Lu Ye would rather raise Xuanxuan himself than send her to your Lu family. I suggest you all take some time to reflect on your own failings."

With that, Jiang Sui walked away, leaving Uncle Chi sitting there with a grim expression. He took a deep breath and looked at the voice recorder beside him. It was something Jiang Sui had insisted he turn on before their conversation began, claiming it was for him to take back and play for Old Master Lu.

He hadn't thought much of it at the time... but now he was genuinely afraid that if he played it for the Old Master, the old man might suffer a heart attack on the spot.

Still, he made a phone call to the Old Master first.

"Sir... she refused... Yes, I will explain the details when I return..."

After leaving the private room, Jiang Sui called Lu Ye.

"Your father's people came to see me."

There was a silence of a few seconds on Lu Ye's end. "Is Uncle Chi’s heart still holding up?"

"He's fine. He looks like he’s doing just fine."

"By the way, did you make a mistake with that transfer earlier?" Jiang Sui asked, remembering the ten million.

Lu Ye replied, "No. I was worried you wouldn't have enough money. If you need more, just tell me."
