Chapter 143: Fearing His Betrayal
Jiang Sui’s hands faltered on the steering wheel, and the car came to a halt on the roadside.
"His inner monologue is that elaborate?" Jiang Sui truly couldn't tell. Jiang Lai, who appeared so cold and aloof on the surface, actually possessed such a rich inner world. And to think he was so narcissistic? It was completely unexpected.
Miaomiao nodded, then licked the last of the broth from her bowl clean.
Jiang Sui stroked her chin. She had indeed asked Miaomiao to keep an eye on the man's mental state. After all, in the original script, he was infatuated with Bai Xixue, even reaching the point of being so lovesick that he would fight against her husband for the sake of a married woman. Though she appeared to trust him, she remained guarded. She was terrified he might turn on her. With Miaomiao’s help, she could take precautions in advance.
"You don't need to listen to what they're thinking all the time. Just check in occasionally," Jiang Sui said, glancing at her. "Knowing too much isn't good for a little cat."
Miaomiao nodded obediently. "Understood, Sister Suisui."
Jiang Sui hummed in satisfaction. After all, she wasn't interested in knowing every mundane thought, like when someone needed to use the restroom.

At the Ji residence.
"What? Director Lin refused?" Bai Xixue asked, astonished.
"Yes, we've already negotiated. Director Lin said he has already found a more suitable candidate," her manager replied helplessly. "He’s completely immovable, refusing to yield the role. Can you see if your husband has any way to handle this?"
Bai Xixue frowned, her expression darkening. She had assumed securing this role would be effortless, as it always had been in the past. Directors often praised her acting skills, and while Si Chen frequently helped her, she always believed it was her own talent that outshone the rest. How else could she have attracted so many fans?
Yes, she had always believed that the major directors in the entertainment industry held her in high regard. She told herself that her fans loved her because she was exceptional; even if she maintained a persona, who in the industry didn't? Her team insisted it was normal—just a standard tactic.
Her team had carefully vetted this role for her to secure. Originally, she had felt the third female lead’s screen time was too sparse, but once she heard that Jiang Sui was also auditioning for it, she became determined to have it. She wasn't about to be kind and hand the role over to a foolish, malicious woman who was jealous of her and insisted on crossing her. Yet, the director hadn't given her the part.
Bai Xixue was furious. Could it be that this Director Lin was in cahoots with that wicked woman, Jiang Sui?

"I understand," Bai Xixue said coldly. "I'll speak with Si Chen."
In Bai Xixue’s eyes, this was clearly a conspiracy between Jiang Sui and Director Lin. She knew perfectly well what Jiang Sui’s acting skills were like. Since they insisted on using such tactics to sabotage her, they shouldn't blame her for being ruthless.
When Jiang Sui learned that Director Lin had made his choice, she simply waved her hand and made herself the secret investor for the film. Before Ji Sichen could even intervene, he had been beaten to the punch.
By the time Bai Xixue’s team and Ji Sichen caught wind of this, they had already been preparing to launch smear campaigns and commercial suppression against the production. But before they could act, they were forced to go quiet, not daring to make a move. Reports had been filed with the authorities, triggering an investigation into monopolistic behavior and malicious competition within the entertainment industry.
"I’m dying of laughter, hahahahaha..." Shi Heng’s stomach ached with laughter when he heard the news. "Jiang Sui, tell me the truth, do you really have some kind of 'lucky koi' buff? I heard from friends in the industry that Bai Xixue’s team is absolutely livid. Hahaha... her team has always done things that made people in the industry seethe in silence, and now everyone is finally getting to watch their downfall. Hahahahaha!"
The sound of Shi Heng’s laughter over the phone made Jiang Sui rub her temples. She glanced at the man dining in front of her. "Perhaps? Maybe? Possibly?"
