Chapter 108: You’re not… a celebrity, are you?
Jiang Lai placed a hand over his phone and said nothing, his lips pressed into a tight line.
“You college students sure are careful about safety these days,” Jiang Sui remarked.
Jiang Lai looked at her for a moment and found the woman oddly familiar, though her sunglasses made it hard to tell.
He corrected her, “I’m already in a master’s program. Besides, you look like you might be younger than me.”
Jiang Sui was not old to begin with. In fact, given her age and looks, the sweet, youthful beauty route would have suited her best.
Yet for some inexplicable reason, she had ended up with the air of a young matron.
Perhaps it was because Jiang Sui’s presence was simply too strong. Unless she was in the mood to act and could switch seamlessly into another style, like the polished facade she wore before the Shen family, the Jiang Sui of everyday life remained a striking, commanding beauty with a distinctly youthful elegance.
Jiang Sui curved her lips and drove straight to a dessert shop before parking.
When she entered, she even put on a hat to cover the contours of her face.
So in a corner of the dessert shop sat a rather young man, still carrying a trace of youthful inexperience yet unnervingly steady, and across from him a woman in a baseball cap and oversized sunglasses.
Jiang Lai was about to speak when he saw the woman photographing the desserts on the table from every possible angle.
He fell silent for two seconds and chose not to say anything.
Only after the woman had finished and seemed satisfied did he finally lower his voice and ask, “You’re not... a celebrity, are you?”
Actually, in the car he had nearly asked her if she was some kind of crazy person.
But then he thought, surely there wouldn’t be a madwoman that young, beautiful, and wealthy, would there?
With her lovely manicure, Jiang Sui lightly tapped a finger on her social feed and casually synced it to her other platforms.
Then she gave Jiang Lai a faint smile. “My name is Jiang Sui.”
She was a public figure now; appearances had to be maintained.
Posting a few pretty pictures and sharing bits of daily life was also part of the job.
Jiang Lai was startled. He studied her from head to toe, searching his memory for a moment before finally matching the woman before him with the actress he had been hearing about so much lately from the female students.
He suddenly grew nervous. What would a celebrity want with him?
His eyes flicked toward the surroundings.
“Don’t worry. There are no paparazzi,” Jiang Sui said, immediately dispelling his concern.
Though there were plenty of paparazzi waiting on her now, they did not even know where she lived.
That was all thanks to the secrecy of Lu Ye’s residence.
In that villa district, not to mention paparazzi, not even a stranger could get in.
They only knew roughly where she lived, not her exact address.
Even if someone managed to follow her, she would shake them off at once.
What a joke. If she could be tailed, wouldn’t that be a waste of her prowess?
Hearing that there were no paparazzi, Jiang Lai relaxed. He was only afraid of ending up on the trending list tomorrow.
Getting tangled up with a celebrity was hardly a good thing.
“May I ask what Miss Jiang wants with me? And... are you really my mother’s best friend’s daughter?” he asked coolly, his tone light but distinctly doubtful.
Both in words and in posture, he kept his distance.
Jiang Sui smiled. Even behind the sunglasses, the warmth of that smile seemed to shine through the lenses.
Her smile was pleasant, neither forced nor overly familiar.
It stayed just at the right degree, always comfortable, always at a distance that put others at ease.
“Of course not,” Jiang Sui answered with complete righteousness.
Jiang Lai: “...” So lying could be done with such moral confidence?
