Chapter 14: Chaos
“Don’t touch me!”
Jiang Wei struggled fiercely, but Jiang Mu Gui’s strength was surprisingly great. Her eyes fixed sharply on Jiang Wei, as if determined to take her away.
Jiang Wei thought she was going to urge her again not to drink or bring men home, and a surge of irritation rose in her heart. She mustered all her strength and pushed her away.
Jiang Mu Gui was pushed hard against the glass table, knocking over the wine bottles, which shattered into pieces all over the floor.
“Ouch.” A sharp pain shot through Jiang Mu Gui’s wrist, and her vision darkened.
The moment she covered the wound, she felt a sticky sensation. The metallic smell of blood hit her nose, making her dizzy.
Seeing Jiang Mu Gui like this, Jiang Wei panicked and crouched down, asking, “What’s wrong, Mu Gui?”
Biting her lip, Jiang Mu Gui’s face turned pale. As she forced out the words “I’m fine” through clenched teeth, waves of dizziness washed over her.
She had a phobia of blood.
Over the years, she had tried various treatments that seemed to ease it, but perhaps due to her unsettled mind, the nausea returned in waves, and her body grew weak.
When Mu An Yan arrived, Jiang Wei was figuring out how to get the half-drunk men who were just like her to help Jiang Mu Gui up. The Bluetooth music had been turned off by someone, and the eerie silence in the living room made the chaotic scene all the more absurd.
Jiang Wei sensed something was wrong. Seeing those men were useless, she planned to call for help, but a cold, deep male voice came from behind: “Step aside.”
Jiang Wei stiffened and turned to see Mu An Yan.
The man’s face was cold, radiating an intimidating chill that made her instinctively step aside.
He immediately crouched to feel her forehead and breath, then noticed the bloodied wrist she was holding. His face changed abruptly, brows furrowed. He took off his suit jacket and draped it over her, then lifted her up horizontally. “Let’s go to the hospital.”
Mu An Yan’s pace was swift. Jiang Wei signaled the men to leave and quickly followed. “Mu Gui, are you okay?”
The man stopped and glanced at Jiang Wei. “I just got a message—mom is close to dying. I’m taking Mu Gui to the hospital. You should go back to the old house and check.”
Jiang Wei halted, about to argue, but he didn’t give her a chance to speak, watching their backs as they left.
His gaze was indifferent. He thought he wouldn’t feel emotional again, but seeing her showing no trust in him still angered him.
After all, she was his daughter.
Behind them, a gentle-looking man approached. He had been part of the wild party in the living room earlier, witnessed everything but hadn’t left. “Xiao Wei, want me to take you?”
Jiang Wei’s tone was icy. “Take me where?”
“To the old house.”
Jiang Wei sneered coldly. “No need. Probably another false alarm. How many times has that story been played? This time, even Mu An Yan and the kid were fooled.”
Without looking back, Jiang Wei went home.
That said, she wasn’t in the mood to keep playing along. She tidied up the house alone. Angry as she was, she knew that although Mu An Yan didn’t manage the household much, overall, he was reliable.
The man beside her sighed, watching her like this, and helped tidy up as well.
In the car, when Mu An Yan opened the back seat, he wanted to lay the half-conscious girl there, but she clung tightly to him, clutching his jacket like a kitten drowning in water.
He sighed inwardly and got into the back seat with her. Gently brushing aside her tangled hair, he quickly instructed the assistant, “I remember there are sterile gauze pads in the car. Get some out.”
Though surprised, the assistant didn’t question him given the urgency and quickly followed orders. Mu An Yan pressed the sterile pads against her wound while observing her condition. Fortunately, the cut was shallow, and the bleeding soon stopped.
The assistant started the car without needing further instruction, heading toward the hospital.
The girl, perhaps frightened, was half-unconscious and pale. Her usually soft face looked even more tender now, murmuring indistinctly.
Mu An Yan understood and leaned closer, asking, “What do you need?”
Jiang Mu Gui murmured in his arms, “Daddy, water.”
