Volume One, Chapter 44: Chen Kaige's Idea

Fang Mo frowned beside them.
The Ning family was the most prestigious clan in Jiangcheng, which also testified to the vast scale of the Ning Group. If the Ning Group’s servers were attacked and a large amount of sensitive information leaked, it would be no trivial matter!
Noticing Fang Mo’s worried expression, Ning Yuelan gently reached out and held the little guy’s hand.
“Don’t worry. Our tech team is currently trying to salvage the website, but it’s unlikely we can repair it quickly…”
“No big deal.”
“Don’t you trust your sister’s abilities?”
Indeed, the Ning Group’s financial power was formidable, and having top-notch technical operations was not a problem. Yet, Fang Mo still wanted to help in any way he could.
“Yuelan, are you heading back to the company soon?”
Was that even a question?
With this kind of situation, as chairman, Ning Yuelan had to return to take charge!
Seeing Ning Yuelan’s eyes flicker with doubt as she nodded slightly, Fang Mo volunteered eagerly:
“I’ll go with you to see if there’s anywhere I can help.”
“Fang Mo, don’t add to your wife’s troubles. She’s probably already overwhelmed. The Ning Group’s firewall—designed by many overseas elites—has been breached like this, and Yuelan will have her hands full…”
Wu Jiabei shook her head. “If you go, you’ll just distract her.”
Song Yu and the others nodded in agreement.
Yet Ning Yuelan didn’t want to discourage Fang Mo from the bottom of her heart. Besides, after being cared for by her brother all night, the woman was secretly fond of this feeling for the first time.
Women are inherently fragile. No matter how many labels the outside world puts on her, Ning Yuelan’s toughness was just a facade. As a woman, her nature longed for someone to depend on.
“It’s fine. Since you want to help, come along.”
Ning Yuelan’s lips curled into a faint smile. “By the way, I’ve prepared a little surprise today. We’ll take our little husband over to the Ning Group office to introduce him to my colleagues.”
With that, Ning Yuelan grabbed the car keys and bid farewell to Song Yu and the others.
They could only sigh helplessly.
“Just spoil him.”
…
Elsewhere, at the car, Fang Mo took the keys voluntarily and slid into the driver’s seat.
“You’re not feeling well; I’ll drive, Yuelan. You didn’t rest properly last night; you can rest a bit in the car.”
Hearing this, Ning Yuelan felt a warm glow in her heart.
“Oh? After sleeping, you’ve learned to care for others?”
Fang Mo blushed, smiling sheepishly as he set the navigation and headed toward the Ning Group headquarters.
The resort was some distance from the Ning Group. Fang Mo drove steadily, careful not to jostle the woman and disturb her rest.
Sure enough, Ning Yuelan leaned back in her seat and soon fell into a deep sleep.
“People are like iron, meals are like steel; even Yuelan gets tired!”
Noticing the persistent frown on her sleeping face, Fang Mo felt a pang of sympathy.
The woman clearly had worries weighing on her mind.
“Who has nothing better to do than attack a legitimate businesswoman like Yuelan?”
When they arrived at the Ning Group building, Fang Mo gently roused her.
A lingering fatigue shadowed her brows.
With her period, she already felt unwell; combined with this crisis, rest was impossible.
Fang Mo’s heart ached for her.
Upstairs, employees anxiously reported to Ning Yuelan one after another.
Upon entering the company, her usual cold and composed demeanor returned.
“The tech department is working on repairs, but the attackers are cunning. They used a Trojan virus with no trace; unless a top hacker helps, our tech team can’t stabilize the situation quickly.”
The secretary glanced at Fang Mo beside Ning Yuelan.
Normally, this junior secretary, who admired Ning Yuelan, might gossip, but the current situation was clearly grave.
Ning Yuelan suppressed her emotions and nodded slightly.
“What are the losses?”
“More than three hundred clients’ information has been leaked. Though the company immediately tried to block news, the incident still hit the trending list on Jiangcheng’s real-time news. Public opinion is overwhelmingly critical, accusing us of failing to protect client data, making business with us extremely risky.”
The secretary gave a wry smile.
“In just half an hour, the PR department received hundreds of complaint calls from clients.”
Even Ning Yuelan’s expression shifted noticeably.
The leak of three hundred clients’ data was nothing short of a disaster.

If not handled properly, the Ning Group might lose those clients entirely.
“Ning Madam is here, Ning Madam…”
More people noticed Ning Yuelan’s presence and approached to report, almost all bearing bad news.
Her face darkened further.
At the tech department entrance, Ning Yuelan intended to let Fang Mo rest, but he shook his head.
“Yuelan, don’t worry about me. I’ll just stay by your side and watch.”
“Alright…”
Ning Yuelan had no time to entertain him and pushed open the door.
Inside, a dozen or more computers were surrounded by people furiously typing codes, their expressions tense, fingers flying as if about to smoke.
“Director Zhang, what’s the situation?”
Ning Yuelan found a balding middle-aged man and asked sternly.
“Ning Madam.”
The man gritted his teeth, looking embarrassed.
“Actually, the client list leak isn’t the worst part. Seven or eight project proposals under Ning Group have also been lost.”
“If the hackers only wanted to damage our reputation, they wouldn’t have bothered with such an extensive operation. They’re after those projects…”
After all, they were here for the projects?
Fang Mo glanced at the programmers tapping away.
No wonder they were senior engineers; their skills for website maintenance and repair were impeccable. But their effectiveness depended on one condition.
That was if the attackers stopped stealing internal Ning Group data.
Otherwise, their efforts were like trying to fill the sea with a pebble.
Not entirely useless, but barely a drop in the ocean.
“Is the data still being stolen?”
Ning Yuelan asked Director Zhang.
He smiled bitterly.
“Yes, the attackers are frantically siphoning content from our server through back-end ports. The best solution now is to wipe all data, then after repairing the firewall, back it up and upload it to the cloud again.”
Too troublesome.
Ning Yuelan frowned deeply.
“Many files have no paper copies. If we wipe everything, old files and meeting records will be lost forever. No, that won’t work.”
“When will Mr. Long arrive?”
Since Ning Group’s focus wasn’t on internet business, they hadn’t hired top cybersecurity experts.
Whether the tech department’s mediocre staff could handle this was clear to Ning Yuelan.
At times like this, only their special consultant could turn the tide!
Hearing the name, Director Zhang’s face darkened, and he bit his lip.
“Ning Madam, actually Mr. Long is here already, but…”
“But what?”
Ning Yuelan narrowed her eyes.
“But Mr. Long came with Chen Kaige, you mean?”
Before Zhang finished, a voice interrupted from the doorway.
Everyone turned to see a man in a luxurious Armani suit, with slicked-back hair, slowly entering the room.
“Yuelan, long time no see.”
The Armani-clad man walked with confidence, exuding a seductive fragrance.
His looks weren’t handsome per se, but Fang Mo felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if he’d seen him somewhere before.
“Young Master Chen?”
The employees were astonished.
“Why is Young Master Chen here?”
“Isn’t that the crazy dog Chen Kaige who relentlessly pursued Ning Madam before?”
“Everyone in Jiangcheng knows how obsessed he is with Ning Madam. If he wants something, he never fails. Why would he show up at our company today?”
“Could it be for Ning Madam?”
Fang Mo wasn’t deaf; he heard the murmurs among the staff.
Chen Kaige?
That was the lunatic Fang Mo had encountered at the Ning shopping mall—the elder brother of Chen Kaixuan?
Fang Mo frowned. He had long heard about Chen Kaige’s infatuation with Ning Yuelan.
They say rivals’ encounters are full of tension, and Fang Mo’s gaze grew increasingly wary.
Chen Kaige didn’t even glance at Fang Mo.
“Yuelan, I saw the news. The Ning Group’s firewall was hacked. It’s a serious problem.”
“And?”
Ning Yuelan raised an eyebrow, unimpressed.
“If you’re here to gloat, I suggest you leave. I’m in a bad mood and might have security throw you out in disgrace. Wouldn’t want to ruin your Armani.”
Her words were icy; she was thoroughly fed up with Chen Kaige, calling him a mad dog.
Hearing this, Fang Mo relaxed a bit; Ning Yuelan clearly had no interest in Chen Kaige, otherwise she wouldn’t show such impatience.
Chen Kaige remained unfazed.
“Yuelan, after all, we’ve been partners for years, and our families will be related sooner or later. I’m here to help.”
“Mr. Long is no longer your cybersecurity consultant; I officially hired him as our Chen family’s technical director. But since we’re friends, I don’t mind if he assists.”
Ning Yuelan crossed her arms, staring coldly at Chen Kaige.
She had guessed he wouldn’t give up easily. But having secretly admired Fang Mo for thirteen years, she had no interest in other men. Moreover, she understood Chen Kaige’s ambition.
He wanted her not just because he liked her.
Next, Chen Kaige lit a cigarette leisurely.
“Even Mr. Long is powerless now; the hackers are too fierce.”
“To save the client data, I have a good idea: merge our two cloud servers. Our Chen family’s servers are very secure, with firewalls stronger than Ning Group’s.”
“You can clear your system’s data, then after upgrading the firewall, retrieve it from Chen’s cloud.”

“Brother Shen!”
“Hmm!”
Shen Changqing walked down the street, nodding or greeting acquaintances.
But no matter who it was, no one showed any extra emotion, as if indifferent to everything.
For Shen Changqing, this was normal.
This was the Demon Suppression Division, an organization maintaining the stability of the Great Qin dynasty, mainly tasked with slaying demons and monsters, with some side duties.
In this division, every member had blood on their hands.
When a person grows used to life and death, they become indifferent to many things.
When he first came to this world, Shen Changqing struggled to adapt, but over time, he grew accustomed.
The Demon Suppression Division was vast.
Those who stayed here were either powerful experts or had the potential to become so.
Shen Changqing was the latter.
The division had two main roles: Guardians and Demon Slayers.
Everyone entered as a low-level Demon Slayer and gradually worked up, hoping to become a Guardian.
Shen Changqing’s previous incarnation was a trainee Demon Slayer, the lowest rank.
With memories from his past life, he was very familiar with the division’s environment.
Not long after, Shen Changqing stopped before a pavilion.
Unlike the rest of the grim and blood-stained division, this pavilion stood out like a crane among chickens, displaying an unusual tranquility.
The doors were open, with occasional people entering and leaving.
After a brief hesitation, Shen Changqing stepped inside.
The atmosphere changed instantly.
A scent of ink mixed with faint blood filled the air, making him frown instinctively before relaxing.
In the Demon Suppression Division, the smell of blood on each person was almost impossible to wash away.
