Lin Yi, who had been sound asleep, suddenly snapped his eyes wide open without any warning. An overwhelming wave of intense hunger surged through him, instantly drowning all his consciousness.
“Hungry… so hungry!” he murmured to himself, his voice brimming with an uncontrollable craving.
At the same time, this scene was unfolding in countless other places.
Meanwhile, Lin Yi’s younger brother, Lin Chuan, was clutching his stomach tightly, rolling on the ground in agony, groaning incessantly. The sight was somewhat comical.
Lin Yi hurriedly pulled out a piece of bread from beside him and, without hesitation, stuffed it into his mouth. At this moment, he no longer cared about appearances; he only wanted to fill the emptiness in his stomach as quickly as possible.
He devoured the bread ravenously, chewing each bite rapidly and washing it down with a generous gulp of water, repeating this cycle over and over.
After a while, he finally felt a bit better, though the gnawing hunger had yet to fully subside. In this way, Lin Yi forced down six of eight long loaves of bread.
Slightly relieved, Lin Yi lifted his head, glaring furiously at the sky and cursing loudly, “Damn treacherous dogs! If you’re going to lift the curse, then just lift it! But to do this to me? Do you really think I’m easy to mess with?”
His curses echoed into the heavens, as though he wanted to vent all his frustration and anger through these furious roars.
However, as Lin Yi vented, he was completely unaware that Huang Tian and the others nearby were watching him with strange looks.
They exchanged glances, disbelief etched on their faces, silently wondering, “What’s wrong with His Majesty? Is he going mad?”
Our beloved comic relief, Zhang Xin, stared wide-eyed with curiosity, unblinking as she watched Lin Yi.
Her rosy cheeks were filled with confusion and bewilderment. Tilting her head, she sweetly asked, “Big brother, what’s going on? Why did you suddenly start acting like a mad dog? Ha ha ha…”
Before finishing, she burst into uncontrollable laughter, throwing her head back as if she’d just witnessed the funniest thing in the world. Between laughs, she kept muttering, “Big brother is just too funny!”
Seeing this, Zhang Guoxing felt uneasy. If she kept talking, who knew what ridiculous things might come out.
Quickly, he rushed forward and gently covered Zhang Xin’s small mouth, fearing any more shocking remarks might escape her cherry lips.
Afterward, Zhang Guoxing sheepishly looked up, gave Lin Yi an awkward smile, and scratched the back of his head. “Heh heh, kids don’t know any better. Your Majesty, please don’t mind.”

Lin Yi wore a look of disbelief. Just as he was about to speak, goblins suddenly appeared outside the city gates.
Lin Yi shouted, “Monsters are attacking!” The four of them looked toward the gate. Beyond the once foggy horizon, the sky had cleared, but there stood numerous small, green-skinned creatures—goblins—with pointed ears, large round eyes gleaming with cunning yellow light. Their flat noses and wide mouths revealed uneven, somewhat sharp teeth, and their faces bore greedy or sly grins.
Huang Xiaorong’s anger flared instantly upon seeing the goblins. “Beasts! They’re goblins!”
Seeing only ordinary goblins, Lin Yi let out a sigh of relief. There were roughly twenty of them.
He told the others, “Though they’re just regular goblins, we can’t be careless.” Handing a large machete to Zhang Guoxing, Lin Yi guessed Zhang’s strength to be between ordinary and bronze level. With Huang Tian and Huang Xiaorong, they should be fine.
“We’ll follow the plan. Huang Tian, Huang Xiaorong, you two coordinate with Zhang Guoxing. I’ll support you from the city walls with the cannon.”
Zhang Guoxing glanced at his daughter and sternly said, “You stay close to His Majesty and don’t go anywhere, got it?”
Zhang Xin nodded obediently and shouted, “I’ll be up there with big brother, watching daddy fight the monsters. Daddy, you have to make them run for their lives!” Her face flushed red with excitement as she took deep breaths.
Zhang Guoxing smiled. “Alright, daddy will fight the monsters and make sure they don’t hurt you.”
Lin Yi added, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on this little troublemaker.”
The three stepped out of the city gates. The goblins, sensing people, quickened their pace recklessly toward the gates.
Lin Yi shouted, “Little bastards, watch the power of my Italian cannon!”
Bang! Bang! Bang! After three shots, several huge goblin bodies lay sprawled on the plain.
Lin Yi was stunned by the damage. Nearby, Zhang Xin, seeing the goblins crushed, was unafraid.
Standing by the wall with her hands in her pockets, she imitated Lin Yi’s voice in a childish tone and shouted, “Ugly monsters, watch out for my Italian cannon!”
Lin Yi hadn’t expected such ferocity from the little girl.
He fired the cannon again in sync with her shout. Bang! Bang! Bang! About half of the twenty goblins were wiped out instantly.

Zhang Guoxing and the others didn’t slacken. Huang Xiaorong hacked fiercely, shouting, “Beasts, feel the wrath of your auntie!” She felled a goblin in a few blows.
Huang Tian was taken aback. Muttering, “This woman is fierce—I never noticed before.”
Lost in thought, Huang Tian failed to notice danger creeping up behind him. A nimble goblin swiftly attacked from behind, its sharp spear glinting coldly, aiming mercilessly at Huang Tian’s back.
In a flash, Zhang Guoxing reacted swiftly, sidestepping the attack and swinging his long knife with thunderous force. A scream pierced the air as the ambushing goblin was instantly decapitated, blood splattering around.
Zhang Guoxing sheathed his blade smoothly, then patted Huang Tian’s shoulder lightly with a hint of reproach. “Are you trying to get yourself killed? How can you dare zone out on such a critical battlefield?”
Nearby, Huang Xiaorong noticed what happened. She widened her eyes, hands on hips, and yelled, “Huang Tian, can you handle this? You can’t even deal with a tiny goblin and need rescuing! How embarrassing!”
Huang Tian’s face burned with shame as if pierced by a thousand needles. He inwardly cursed himself for making such a fool of himself in front of the girl he admired.
Anger surged within him. Without hesitation, he gripped his great knife and charged like a raging lion at the nearest goblin.
Blinded by fury, his strikes were swift and fierce. The unfortunate goblin didn’t even have time to react before collapsing in a pool of its own blood.
He repeated this, slaying several goblins with clean, ruthless blows.
Backed by their brave fight and the cannon’s powerful fire, the twenty goblins that had once threatened them were quickly wiped out.
The battlefield was thick with the stench of blood, littered with the mangled corpses of goblins, but the three barely cared. After a brief rest, they remained alert, watching their surroundings for any other threats.
