However, after all, he was someone who had weathered storms before. Han Tianshou’s face flickered with various emotions, but in the end, he regained his composure. He cast a cold glance at Lin Quan and the others. “There’s been some misunderstanding here. Our school will handle this matter internally—it’s not the police’s concern!”

He had already said it—after all, the chief of police was his brother-in-law! Why would he fear the police? What a joke!

Lin Quan, of course, recognized Han Tianshou. This was a man with some standing in Nanxun Town; even the principal of Second High was overshadowed by him. If nothing unexpected happened, he would soon push the principal aside and take over.

But… an unexpected turn had come.

Lin Quan’s smile was icy. “I’m sorry, Vice Principal Han. We suspect you are involved in a corruption case. Please come with us.”

It seemed he’d suffered some setbacks under Han Tianshou before, but had been unable to do anything about it, given Han’s backing.

Han Tianshou had not the slightest fear of Lin Quan. Even though the recent incident with Sui Yi had almost destroyed his reputation, he still had other cards to play. He retorted grimly, “You think you can just take me away?”

But Lin Quan slipped his hand into his pocket, and with a flourish, produced a document—a search warrant.

He stared down at the obese Han Tianshou, his tall and powerful frame exuding authority. “This is a search warrant for persons implicated in the corruption case. But given what we just heard, the police have grounds to press new charges against you.”

Rape, indecency—there seemed to be no shortage of victims. That alone was enough to warrant several years in prison.

Han Tianshou’s face finally changed.

Outside, Huang Yan and the others suddenly sensed the building was about to collapse.

“I don’t believe it! Stop trying to scare me!” Han Tianshou snatched up his phone to make a call. On the screen were several missed calls from Han Yuanzhong and others.

Han Yuanzhong was on campus—surely, he’d heard all that had just happened. And those other calls…

Crash! His phone was snatched away by Zhang Xiao.

“You—!”

“Sorry, this is evidence we must investigate,” Zhang Xiao replied coldly. She quickly scrolled through the phone. Sure enough, every call was to a sensitive contact. The message logs were all there—none deleted. How bold did one have to be to leave all this lying around?

To call it slander would be an insult to the heavens!

“What are you doing? I want a lawyer! That’s my legal right!”

“A lawyer? Please make way, make way.” A tall, thin man with a briefcase squeezed in, exhaled, adjusted his tie, and smiled at Han Yuanzhong.

“I am, in fact, a lawyer.”

Han Yuanzhong was stunned. Who on earth was this guy, and where did he come from?

The lawyer smiled and added, “But I’m Miss Sui Yi’s attorney. This time, I must file a suit against you, Mr. Han Tianshou, for the unfair treatment and harm my client suffered at your school. By the way, my client is under eighteen and is a specially protected witness by the police. Legally speaking, your previous crimes are now compounded.”

Everyone was speechless.

Good heavens—what was going on? This lawyer was hired by Sui Yi? When had she hired a lawyer?

Lin Quan and Zhang Xiao were both taken aback.

Zhang Xiao suddenly recalled something Sui Yi had said the first time they met. Hiring a lawyer was something most students barely understood, yet for her, it had never been a joke.

Huang Yan and the others instinctively glanced over.

At this moment, the girl was seated on the sofa, phone in hand, her face turned aside in quiet beauty as she made a call.

“Yes… it’s alright now. At most, I’ll have to go to court. You keep in touch with those few as well—best to root out the problem entirely, right?… Yes… I’ll be home for dinner if things go smoothly.”

She hung up, then looked up at Han Yuanzhong, whose chubby face was trembling, and smiled faintly. She handed her phone to the lawyer.

“Mr. Gao, please make a copy of the conversation records for me—they’ll be needed in court. Also, there’s contact info for a few other female students in there. If you have time, please check on them too. Give a copy to the police as well. We’re good citizens; we should help the police and protect the lawful rights of others, shouldn’t we?”

Her words were cool and gentle, delivered in a soft, clear voice. Her face seemed almost unfamiliar.

At least Yu Hang and the others were dumbstruck.

Han Yuanzhong’s vision darkened, and he fainted on the spot.

Such a huge man—Zhang Xiao and her colleagues rolled their eyes. Great, now they’d have to carry him downstairs? And the building didn’t even have an elevator!

Lin Quan watched Sui Yi, who remained serene and composed. Had she planned all this out from the start, or…?

She’d supposedly caught a glimpse of the evidence by chance from Old Tang, but what about those addresses? Could it be…?

Everything seemed to unfold seamlessly, but whether by accident or design, did she truly understand nothing, or did she understand everything far too well?

Han Tianshou, revived by a pinch to his philtrum, was unceremoniously escorted out in front of a crowd of teachers and students.

Ye An’an and the others felt as if they were dreaming; Huang Yan and the teachers found it all absurd.

Or perhaps, their backs felt a cold shiver.

“The principal! The principal is here!”

“Principal!”

The principal of Second High was a man in his fifties. When he saw Han Tianshou, the fat man had lost all his former arrogance, left only with panic and dismay. The principal shook his head and sighed. “You… those who do evil will meet their own destruction! And you’ve sullied Second High’s century-old reputation!”

Han Tianshou could only hang his head in shame as he was led away.

When Sui Yi heard the principal’s words, she turned away and smiled faintly. Hadn’t the school only been established fifty-nine years? Rounding up, did it become a century?

Principal Wang Qun entered and exchanged a few words with Lin Quan and the others, who were still there collecting evidence, while shooing the students back to class.

He also saw Sui Yi seated on the sofa, with Lawyer Gao at her side.

He recognized the lawyer—Gao Wei.

A particularly formidable lawyer, with powerful connections behind him.

—People from the Nanxun Chamber of Commerce.

So Han Tianshou had really stirred up a hornet’s nest, hadn’t he? Was it because of Yu Hang? Apparently, Yu Hang’s father was a core member of the chamber.

Yu Hang had not left either; he stood beside Sui Yi, fussing over her, which made Zhang Xiao roll her eyes.

Wang Qun’s presence restored some order. The teachers and students gradually dispersed and returned to class. Sui Yi rose as well, her gaze passing over the principal’s aged features. “Principal…”

Wang Qun looked at Sui Yi, his eyes growing more somber as if recalling something. He stroked his beard and said coolly, “Now that this has been settled, return to class.”

“Alright,” Sui Yi replied with her usual calm smile, and stepped outside. Lin Quan followed her.

Gao Wei did not intrude, but walked over to Wang Qun.

His duty was to protect Sui Yi’s legal rights. Now that Han Tianshou had been arrested, Wang Qun was the sole authority at Second High. Of course, he would also have to see the other party involved—Han Yuanzhong.

On the balcony corridor, only Sui Yi and Lin Quan remained. In the distance, a classroom’s recitation drifted through the air.

“I should get to class now, Captain Lin. Is there anything else?” Sui Yi turned and asked, catching Lin Quan off guard.

For a moment, he almost forgot that the catalyst for this entire episode was this girl with the innocent face.

But Lin Quan was no pushover. He quickly regained his composure. “This matter—”

Before he could finish, Sui Yi interrupted, “My lawyer will be handling everything. There’s no need for you to worry, Captain Lin. As for the rest, it’s not my concern…”

Oh? Lin Quan suddenly understood—Sui Yi intended to keep herself entirely clear of the scandal, leaving Han Yuanzhong and Han Tianshou to face the consequences alone.

It did fit her style.

But—

“Is that so… But what I wanted to mention was the ancient river case in Nanxun—the one from before. That person has died.”
