Sui Yi rose to her feet, her eyes fixed on him, her heart murmuring with unease—the distance between them was far too close. “If I told you I know nothing, would you believe me?”

“No,” he replied, shaking his head, while raising the barrel of his gun to point at her. “You’re very young, quite beautiful, and rather clever. It’d be a shame if you died here. But I’ve always detested people who waste my time, so…”

With a casual flick of his wrist, the gun’s muzzle slid from the hem of her trousers up to her head.

“Tell me what you know, won’t you?”

Sui Yi blinked, exhaling softly. “That shipment—you want to know about it? All I know is that halfway through, it was intercepted by one of Old Tang’s friends.”

“I’m aware of that… But I can’t find his friend now. Funny thing, your boss does have some skill. So, why don’t you tell me where his friend is? Or maybe… I’ll send one of your hands to Old Tang and see if that gets him to deliver the goods.”

His tone was gentle, almost refined, his expression friendly, but the gun pointed straight at her. Sui Yi could almost imagine the unspeakable torment Blackskin must have suffered that night.

“It seems I have no choice but to say something…” Sighing, Sui Yi’s voice trailed off.

The assassin smiled. “I’m listening…”

“Actually, it’s just that…” Sui Yi spoke with a slight smile, but in an instant, her foot pressed hard against the ground! With a swift, sharp movement, she shifted her body, dodging the gun’s aim.

The man’s eyes narrowed, and he swung the muzzle after her.

Bang!

A bullet ricocheted off the wall, but Sui Yi was already upon him.

Heh! So she wanted to fight him up close? Had she forgotten he still had a gun?

Or perhaps that was why she closed in!

Some people run when their opponent has a gun; others rush forward. The difference lies in whether one has the ability for close combat—and the courage to risk everything.

No doubt, the assassin was surprised—a frail-looking girl like her, daring to fight at close quarters!

And she was so fast!

The gun barely had time to fire a second shot—her leg shot out in a fierce kick!

Bang! The gun fired.

He still held the weapon, but his wrist was gripped tightly by Sui Yi.

Just as she meant to apply force to his pulse point, she caught the cold, mocking curve of his lips—a twist, and his wrist turned her own.

“So you’re trained after all. That explains a lot, but…”

He pressed down hard, pinning Sui Yi against the gray-white wall. With such force, her face would surely be bruised!

But with a single-legged push against the wall, she propelled herself backward, slamming into him with her back.

Caught off guard, the assassin crashed into the wall. He barely had time to swing the gun toward her head.

Sharp pain shot through his wrist—his arm was forced aside. Sui Yi’s hand became a knife, slashing fiercely at his neck!

He blocked.

A flurry of blows followed, each time the muzzle turned, Sui Yi shifted, evading every shot. Her terrifying sensitivity and reaction speed made the assassin’s eyes grow colder and colder.

Damn it, this prey was far more troublesome than expected!

Her kicks, chops, and explosive strength—all contradicted the information he’d gathered.

Just an ordinary high school girl with a weak background?

Ha!

Impressive!

With a ruthless glare, the assassin exerted his full strength, hurling Sui Yi forward.

She was flung through the air.

Bang! The gun fired again, just missing her shoulder as she twisted desperately aside—

The shot grazed her, drawing blood.

Sui Yi landed on one knee, catching herself with a hand on the ground. As the second shot rang out—

Her hand snapped forward.

A pebble.

Crack! The stone shot out like a bullet.

Her throw was too powerful—the assassin’s gun was struck and sent flying through the air!

It arced to the rooftop of a low building three meters away.

A perfect combination of angle and force!

She’d done it on purpose?

Now, the assassin was only three meters from Sui Yi.

He twisted his injured wrist, his eyes narrowing to slits. He said nothing, but with a flick of his sleeve, a slender, straight knife flashed out—a spring-loaded blade, much larger than a nail clipper, yet he’d hidden it within his sleeve.

But—

Its edge was fine, easily able to slice open Sui Yi’s throat!

He spun it in his palm like a toy—clearly, this was the killing tool with which he was most skilled.

Sui Yi’s breathing tightened. Reflexively, she bolted toward the alley’s entrance.

“Run? There’s never been prey I couldn’t catch…” His laugh was low and chilling as he gave chase.

Through the winding alleys, Sui Yi ran desperately, like a lone antelope pursued by a snow leopard.

Without the tracker, catching her was more difficult, but at least Sui Yi knew the terrain better.

Unfortunately, this place was sparsely populated, hemmed in on all sides by the winding Nanxun River. Aside from the main entrance, the only way out was by boat, and the assassin was relentless.

After a while, at a crossroads, Sui Yi pressed herself against a wall, barely daring to breathe, gripping a slender, dry bamboo pole she’d found leaning nearby.

Footsteps were closing in.

He’d sensed she was here.

The knife’s edge whistled through the air, again and again—

As if each stroke sliced open her skin, blood welling forth, death thick in the air.

He came closer with every step. Sui Yi lowered her gaze, gripping the bamboo pole—twice the thickness of her thumb—with white-knuckled intensity.

Almost… almost…

His footsteps halted beside her, nearly level.

Suddenly, a ringtone broke the silence—Sui Yi’s phone!

Damn!

Her eyes flashed open.

The assassin twisted reflexively, raising his hand—

Face to face.

The bamboo pole shot toward his heart like a drawn sword.

He responded with the slender blade—

The knife’s edge split the bamboo with a vertical slash, splinters flying.

It drove forward, straight toward Sui Yi’s head.

He had no intention of capturing her alive.

He wanted her dead.

The blade tore a long gash in her uniform. Sui Yi sprang backward, her toes touching down, landing atop the outer railing with sudden agility.

They’d reached the edge of the ancient compound!

Below, the waters of the Nanxun River ran deep and swift.

There was nowhere else to run.

Was she going to jump?

The assassin stood three meters away. Sui Yi thought she might survive if she leapt—

But then, from his left pocket, he drew something else.

A lightweight pistol.

One she recognized instantly.

The very gun that had killed Blackskin.

“Game over,” he said with a smile, his voice soft as a whisper in his heart.

I miss you, girl.

He pressed the trigger—

Bang!

But the shot came from behind him.

---

“Police!”

“Drop your weapon!”

Blood splattered from the assassin’s arm. His face twisted with fury—damn it, how had the police tracked him here?

Lin Quan, Zhang Xiao, and the others dashed down the alley, catching sight of the harrowing scene from a dozen meters away.

A warning shot—not meant to kill. He was still useful, after all.

He was alive.

“So your phone call earlier—that was my oversight,” the assassin smiled faintly.

All that talk about renting, old houses, flowing water—just coded hints about this place, meant to lull his suspicions and not alert Old Tang.

Clever girl.

But—

The game wasn’t over yet!

Without warning, the assassin charged straight at Sui Yi, who was still perched on the railing.

“Sui Yi!” Zhang Xiao shouted in horror, gun raised instinctively—but Sui Yi was in the line of fire.

The police surged toward the riverbank.

But before they could reach her, a gunshot echoed from below the riverbank.

Good heavens—they hadn’t fired.

That meant—

The assassin had.

So what about Sui Yi…
