Chapter 101: The Pursuit
Inside the door, the warm yellow light of the oil lamp slanted outward, casting a shadow over his body and spreading beyond the doorway.
The young clan chief quietly watched Sui Yi, still holding her Xieya dagger in his hand, his eyes heavy and fixed intently on her.
A weight settled in Sui Yi’s heart, sinking down with a thud. She exhaled and spoke calmly, “I wonder where I showed a flaw.”
“No flaw,” he replied.
“Hm?” Sui Yi narrowed her eyes.
“If you want to count a flaw, then count this dagger,” the young man said, raising the Xieya dagger. The patterns on its sheath gleamed faintly in the moonlight, slowly glowing.
“To wield such a weapon, one must be extremely formidable. So, I am cautious of you. I previously checked your breath but found nothing unusual. Still... out of habit, I waited.”
Had he finally waited for her to make a move?
She had patience, but his was even more terrifying.
In truth, the young man’s admiration for Sui Yi grew deeper. He hadn’t expected this outsider to possess such skill—escaping alone without a trace. “If it weren’t for your staying back to save your friend, you wouldn’t be in this predicament now.”
He toyed with the Xieya dagger. “Will you bow your head yourself, or shall I make the first move?”
Sui Yi smiled. “With just you alone, it might not be enough to keep me here...”
She paused, then leapt aside as an arrow shot from behind her. Whizz! The arrow flew into the dark sky.
With a sharp clap, she landed atop a nearby house. “Even with your clansmen, it’s still the same.”
“Is that so? Not necessarily!” The young man leapt onto the roof after her. At that moment, twenty doors flung open—twenty men with bows raised, shooting arrows upward in a rapid barrage!
Swish, swish, swish!
The dense volley formed a crisscrossing net of arrows. Though not as fast as the young man’s single arrow, they flew like bullets.
Sui Yi bounced and dodged like eyes watched from all directions. In an instant, she saw all the escape routes and smoothly passed through the rain of arrows.
Suddenly, with a quick spring from her leg, she leapt from the rooftop to the nearest large tree, five meters away.
“Clan chief, she’s trying to escape!”
“She won’t get away! Pursue!”
Like a leopard, the young clan chief easily vaulted onto the tree, hanging just meters behind Sui Yi.
He sprang upward, the Xieya dagger flashing coldly as he plunged it fiercely from behind!
Swish!
Sui Yi grabbed the tree trunk, swiftly twisting to jump to another tree. The cold wind from behind was like a knife.
The pursuit was intense!
Behind them, tribe members charged out of the village, torches raised, arrows piercing the woods...
A deadly, overwhelming onslaught!
----------
Sui Yi and the young man moved too fast. The tribesmen, though skilled and energized, couldn’t keep up and were soon left far behind.
Yet the young clan chief steadily closed in on Sui Yi...
Moonlight sifted unevenly through the small forest, revealing the two figures leaping like foxes among the trees.
Snap! A slender branch broke as the clan chief suddenly hurled the Xieya dagger four meters toward Sui Yi...
The cold blade gleamed like an arrow, its force enough to pierce her body!
Sui Yi sensed the chill behind her and detected the dagger’s approach. She bent her body and swiftly dropped from the tree…
Crack!
The young clan chief landed on the tree where the dagger was embedded. He drew the dagger out, flipped backward, and stood before Sui Yi.
He twirled the dagger in his hand and narrowed his eyes. “Your internal energy isn’t exceptional, yet you’ve maintained such speed for so long. You’re more formidable than I imagined.”
Sui Yi no longer wished to flee. Running served her no purpose, for his internal strength far surpassed hers. When her energy ran out, he would still have reserves left.
So, there was only one choice: fight.
She eyed the Xieya dagger in the young man’s hand and smiled faintly. “Clan chief, you seem quite accustomed to using others’ weapons.”
He countered, “Likewise.”
“You’re holding a sickle from our tribe, aren’t you?”
Sickle... Sui Yi gripped her own sickle tight. Just then, an animal’s cry echoed in the forest—the young man moved!
Clang!
A clash—the sickle gained a new notch.
“Your clan’s sickles aren’t of the best quality,” Sui Yi said, spinning her sickle to block his strike with its back.
Though unsharpened, it was heavy and edged.
The Xieya dagger gleamed sharply—an outstanding weapon. She knew it well. Yet, knowing it too well, no matter how he changed his moves, she never fell behind.
The young man realized this and began to exert more internal energy, attempting to overwhelm Sui Yi with sheer force.
Bang, bang, bang! Clang, clang, clang!
In the cold night, cold light flashed like sparks.
Two afterimages tore through the air like ripping silk.
Clearly, the young man’s strategy was working.
Sui Yi naturally couldn’t withstand his tremendous power.
With male strength advantage and wide, forceful swings, her defense bore the brunt, sliding backward until she collided with a tree.
The young man stepped forward and slashed diagonally upward with the Xieya dagger—a ruthless strike!
Gah—
The tree bore a deep two-centimeter cut...
Sui Yi flipped and stabbed at the young man’s hip bone with her sickle.
His eyes sharpened. He swiftly kicked at her elbow, striking her leg simultaneously!
He retreated a step; she two steps.
But suddenly, he felt a cold, bone-piercing chill shooting through his leg, stiffening him.
Only for a moment—then a gust of wind!
Sui Yi was close, fingers squeezing his wrist, pressing vital points!
His palm tingled; his fingers nearly lost grip of the Xieya dagger!
At that instant, the young man lunged forward, using his larger body to press heavily against her!
Body used as a weapon? A sumo move?
Sui Yi couldn’t dodge in time; twisting half aside, she was forced toward the ground...
--------
Moonlight filtered through leaves, shining into Sui Yi’s eyes—pure and clear as a mirror washedI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
